Yeah, fine, he was a good actor in a decent show, and this is a Star Trek MMO. That doesn't excuse acting like you lost a family member. It's not like any of you ever knew him personally.

Stay on Vulcan long enough, you will run into someone who new him. (I never had), but I will agree with you.
So I had to know him personally to mourn his death ???
I do believe he is talking about the people who are going over the top, I saw people who mentioned they can't stop crying, the one's who left work early because the could not handle it, or the ones who mentioned they cannot watch WoK because it will upset them to much.

I think posting about how creepy and weird it is, is creepy and weird.
Meh there is a difference between "paying Tribute" & "actual mourning" ... I don't think most people will stay awake for a week, crying their eyes out, being emotionally crushed for months etc ... (aka how most people would react, after loosing a family member ...)

For many people, Star Trek TOS has been a major part of their youth. And Spock, above all others, even Kirk, personified Trek. When someone like that is suddenly ripped away from you, it's not just 'some actor' who died, but a part of your own history (and thus, after a fashion, a part of yourself, really).
I myself choked up when I first heard the news. And I remember finding that rather strange of me. But dammit, man, he *was* Trek. And I am part of the legacy of Trek, in heart and spirit. So I mourn. Can't make it any simpler than that.

I hear the faint cry of a troll. If you are going to post something on the forums, please check your spelling. Weird is not spelled Wierd. You just made yourself look like a moron.
Fleet Admiral of the U.S.S. ATTILA KHAN-CDA (NX-921911).

Wow, there are seriously still people who pettily pick away at someone's spelling in the year of our Lord 2015?
Pretty much explains the whole thing ... for most people Nimoy was Spock ... and Spock was Nimoy (including himself)... it's his "Life's Work", so it's not just an imaginary character ... on the other hand most people don't know "Nimoy - Husband & Father" ... so the Vulcan influencing generations of Sci-Fi-Fans is "all we got" ...
That's why asking for a "Nimoy-Memorial" is actually pretty silly ... pretty sure it's going to be a tribute to Spock ... it's only logical ...
PS : I guess, "Abstraction" isn't your thing ... :P

What I find creepy and weird is how some people manage to twist something as healthy as a communal sense of loss into something negative. Probably the same distasteful people that were disrupting our wake today on Vulcan, with their chidish horns and balloons.

Not necessarily. Although I would typically associate a wake with a party, I found when I looked it up that this is not how everyone uses the term: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_%28ceremony%29

Not one for Spock, no (or ever, actually, come to think of it). It got so bad today, we needed to go to someone's bridge, where we made some great group photos, and no one was disrupting anything. It's really sad, though, that ppl cannot find the decency to leave ppl to their mourning. And mourning, in case you didn't know, is also bonding. Especially considering what Spock stood for, and Star Trek, I, for one, felt a bit of that 'humanity united' thingy Trek is all about: you know, being part of something larger than yourself.

Protip - when you want to go to a vigil for someone in a video game. Expect all kinds of cartoon people to behave in all kinds of cartoon ways. Best to park your avatar, then maximize chat.. you know, so you can actually share memories and stories, and not just sit there waiting to be offended when some pixel appears out of place.

No, I really expect them to behave. Not in the sense of 'demanding' it, but in the sense of hoping, and counting on that they will: not because someone makes them, but because they choose to do so of their own volition, simply out of decency.
Naturally, I'm often dissolution that way. I keep expecting it nonetheless. Hope springs eternal.

This guy gets it.

It does seem to have become fashionable in recent years to yell out your mourning across the internet for all to hear.
What I do find creepy, is that a lot of people seem to be morning Spock - A made up character, and not Nimoy the actor.
Meh : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Spock
Whats that got to do with anything?

Ummm, Spock didn't die. The real live human being who played the fictional character Spock died.
And his "Life's work" seized to continue ... (aka the Stuff we knew him for)
