So like what? What would entice you to go to a social map. What could they add?
As I suggested above: rewards. Give people an incentive to duel on Andoria (or Forcas, which could pretty easily be made into a social zone). Give people an incentive to run errands or solve puzzles on Vulcan and Bajor. Give people an opportunity to acquire rare goods, or Lobi, or lots of GPL on Drozana Station and/or a new Ferenginar social zone.
Also, minigames -- Trek is rife with possibilities, ranging from a Ferengi stock exchange to holoprograms to some of the games we saw in DS9 and TNG, and Dabo (which has a pretty ho-hum payout and is hard for newbies to grasp) is pretty much it right now.

Taco. Is the revamp of the Captain's Table having access from social maps and places still something that will eventually happen?

Looking for a new fleet? Drop by the in-game chat channel, "tenforwardforum", and say hi to the members of A Fleet Called Ten Forward (Fed) and The Orion Pirates (KDF). If you already have a fleet you are happy with, please feel free to drop by our chat channel if you are looking for a friendly bunch of helpful people to socialize with.
Social maps don't necessarily have to be hubs of activity, they just need a hook.
Take, for example, the newer Risa map. It's used for an event 6 weeks out of the year. But people still go there during the off-season- for fleet parties, roleplaying, flying around, and so on. It has "stuff to do" in a different sense than missions and minigames. And it has bank/mail/exchange access.
Andoria doesn't have a hook. It's just there. And white.
I'd love more places to explore, our fleet had a blast climbing the rocks at the Fleet Dilithium Mine. And it is infuriating when you're trying to explore and you're blocked by invisible walls. And I'd really like to see what the Reman Enclave looks like on New Romulus. I saw a youtube video of someone who got up on top of ESD, that looked really freaking neat. Give us an option to spacewalk? And someone got into the shuttle bay there too... Why cut us off from that? Why is there no shuttle animation when we travel by shuttle between holdings? Things like that give us immersion and entice us to play and spend money. Blocking every nook and cranny and treating us like 3yr olds with our hands in the cookie jar when we DO find a hole in the wall does not. Bajor has a lot of potential, but there's nothing to do there.. Andoria? Nimbus 3 has some neat things to climb and explore, but there could be more. The list goes on...

And by extension, Vulcan rarely sees any social activity either. It was only due to the unfortunate passing of Mr Nimoy, that large swaths of the playerbase decided to congregate on Vulcan. Like Andoria, the Vulcan map is restricted to a singular geography (desert), and the map has no access to regular services like Tailors, Trainers, Exchange/Mail etc.
If maps had these services, as well as a few well-placed Foundry doors, they might be more visited.
If you could just... poke the character artist working on adding more borg skins, that'd be greaaat.
I get the impression that if he pokes them even more he'll get a lawsuit for sexual harassment against him. :P
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Taco, you would make an outstanding White House Press Secretary, lol. You must be pulling your hair out by now.
I have a couple of questions.
#1. With the addition of new planets, and new doors for the foundry. will yall be adding new planets and toys for us to place on maps in the foundry?
#2. On my main toon I have achieved the envoy diplomacy level, Now that the, "walls fell", will the Federation players have access to the Omega leonis sector block, and the KDF players have access to the Sirius sector block without reaching level 3 diplomacy? If that's the case, then what are the perks for gaining levels in diplomacy? It took me ages to reach lvl 3 and I'm still working to reach level 4. What is the point in grinding to reach lvl 4 diplomacy if everyone gets the same access without having to grind at all?
P.S. My favorite planet is Saturn...It will be awesome to fly there and chill. I'm excited!!
Went to tribble over the weekend to look at the new sector space revamp. It is fantastic! Well done team!! Flying around our sun and seeing Earth rotating was spectacular. I appreciate all the hard work that went into this.

Pretty sure anyone can fly anywhere now, unimpeded. You'd have to talk with designers about what Diplomacy gets you now. I don't know, myself.

The Grant Diplomatic Immunity/Assign Raiding Party ability also buffs the maximum warp speed and turn rate in sector space. However, it can only be applied to other players, not to yourself.

To be fair Diplomacy 4 already rewards way more than any of the others, given that you get a Title and Doff as usual plus a transwarp, cross-faction Boff and costume. Then the Diplomatic Immunity perk and (broken/nonexistent) voting privilege. Compare with say, Espionage.
Yes, it was like that in the shows... but thanks to stellar drift, Sol is over the edge of the two quadrants and in Beta now
And STO is 40+ years after the shows, so of course things have changed a little
Now this is a great explaination as to why put Sol in the Beta Quadrant.
Now I want to say regarding Sol being in the Alpha quadrant. Sol is in sector 001 right? that means the FIRST SECTOR LISTED IN THE MAPS. If Sector 001 was in the Beta quadrand, then we have truely lost our knowledge of latin. Alpha is first, Beta second, or for the Latin freaks A,and B. Either way, Sol SHOULD be in the Alpha quadrant. If you dont want to change the map. Use the above quote as explaination as to why Sol is NOW in the Beta Quadrant, Stellar Drift
EDIT: for those that say who said why Earth shouldnt be there, think of this. In the shows and movies, humans are commonly refered to as being one of the most prolific species in the known galaxy. Because we are so prolific we spread out fast and since Earth is the "Capital of the Federation" it makes sense that the quadrant system used by the Federation would put Earth in the Alpha Quadrant. Because of politics being that most countries, or in this case factions, follow the most powerful, the Federation Quadrant system would be adopted by all other major factions. Just my 2 cents
One question that I haven't seen yet: Will wandering contacts still exist in new Sector Space? The original maps had, for example, some traders that were moving around. I think the possibilities for that are much greater now. We could have ships making trade runs from one area of the quadrant to another. Would be neat, actually.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "Sometimes you have to do things that you hate, so you can survive to fight another day."
I love these changes, but there's a couple issues that stood out to me within the first minute (on Tribble):
1. It seems like the FOV on the sector map is a little low. An increase of 10-20 might mitigate the sick feeling I get after moving my camera around a bit.
2. At least for my Intel Escort, the impulse thruster trails are too big. WAY too big. At least the size of my ship.
Well, I can see some good points and some bad points.
Bad points are that some contacts will cease to exist (for example flying Fleet Actions entry points like those in Pi Canis).
Next, I am unaware of what will become of Raiding Party and Diplomatic Immunity abilities. In case there will be no boundaries that prevent ships from oppopsing factions to enter certain areas, this abilities will become obsolete.
Good point is, it is a nice foundation for:
-universe to have extended and complex economy based on commodities;
-our ships to have cargo holds limited by the class and model, to be able to sufficiently fit into said economy;
-random encounters (PvE and PvP) during long runs, may be even with PvP loot enabled.
I really hope Cryptic and PWE will consider these as an option to develop with the new Sector Space.
I would gladly take an honorable discharge and will run courier routes with my sweet Risian corvette
My mind was literally blown away when I came across the ARC page detailing all of the changes to sector space. This is a long overdue update that, in my opinion, could definitely breath a whole new life into this game. One thing that always bugged the hell out of me about STO was space travel. It was a little weird to me that space felt far more grandiose while zoned into a system; but, out in sector space everything felt tiny and closed in. When you come to STO from a game like even where space is literally endless, it can really hinder your interest. Though this won't even come close to the scale of EVEs space; I still think it is a massive and essential improvement.
The new map has been out for a while, now. It seems that I still don't have it on my account. Do I have to start my game over in order for the new map to show? I'd rather not do that, I've worked very hard to get where I am.

I hope so, I should poke Charles about that. But it's not something we've been working on lately. Sorry

I'm going to need them to come in to work on that on saturday.
*sips coffee*
By the way, did you get the memo about the covers on TPS reports?
Yeah?
That's greaaat.

Tacofangs, are there any plans after the space sector revamp to add new sectors of the galaxy?

None I know of, but sector space is now built in a way to be pretty easily expandable.
We haven't actually made any new planet materials, we're just changing the assets sector space uses.

That said, I'm curious too!
This alone gives me hope for expansion of the Delta Quadrant beyond 6 sectors.
umm, you are kinda wrong there Tacofangs. Sol is 90 LY from the Beta quadrant. Not on the border.
Now this is a great explaination as to why put Sol in the Beta Quadrant.

IIRC Sol is 90 LY from Qo'nos, not the Beta Quadrant itself.
Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.
I dare you to do better.

the "/10char" thing is oddly apt
