One aspect I love most about the Space and Ground sets are the visuals, I love how with your character you are able to keep the visuals of a certain set once you have the necessary parts regardless of what you have equipped but sadly this has never translated to the your starship.
I have recently started to use a Mk14 Elite Fleet Shield which is pretty much the end of the line in terms of shields so I doubt I will ever change it unless there is a set that just can't be missed but the down side is I am stuck with the plain ship materials and for my Scimi they are not all that inspiring and I am not a fan of the pure white veteran skin, I like dark materials
I have always wondered if Cryptic would release a similar system to that of your character costume options but for starships, you would have to acquire all three parts of the set like you do with the ground sets then you can simply retain that visual as a costume regardless of your equipment.
I for one am very fond of the Counter Command set but the shield sucks and sadly it's personally one of my favorite starship materials.
Please please please release something like that maybe?

Yeah... they always says exactly same thing every time players want something and Cryptic don't. True is that it's not technical problem, but fact that it wan't bring them immediate profits.
It could bring them immediate profits if they set it up the same way Auras are in Champs.
Basically, create a new slot on all starships which I'll just call "material slot" for now. Create a new "material" item that has no stats and attach the current shield visuals to them. When equipped, it shows the shield visual on your ship.
When you pick up one of the existing shields that currently has a visual attached to it, it now gives you a material item to slot in addition to the shield. That way they can keep existing visuals as cosmetic unlocks.
They can then create new, exclusive material items and sell them in packs on the C-store. They can make these packs able to be sold/traded like other C-store items.
That's more or less how visual Auras in Champs works. Sure it would be an effort to make system like that, but they can totally make cash off it. I'm sure there's more than a few of us around here who would throw cash at the screen for some sweet new ship visuals.

I don't get this, i really don't. It's a texture, just like the veteran material. Simply linking it up to the material drop down list shouldn't be difficult at all, with some kind of unlock condition like ground armor has. At least, in terms of the shield skins anyway, engine and other effects i can understand as they have no related option in the ship editor.
Was it also 'a massive technical undertaking to get it to work' for ground armor?! Cuz, you know, it's working for that just fine.
Way I see it, implementing this idea would be trivial. The checks for which visuals to load are already there: all they need to do is inject the set of choice into the mix.

If the shield visuals work on any ship in game already then there really cannot be anything massively different to adding them as a texture in the ship material menu.
Yep, I used to be that guy that messed with game files to suit my own needs. i never did it to this game, but I don't see the Issue. Hell go over to Reddit. There's a thread with a pic of the Manasa in the Temoral skin......Nuff said.
And they could easily game this with money. Buy a special "Merge" item from C store. Lets you take the stats from one shield, and merge onto the Visuals from another. I remember doing that in Vindictus. lol
BTW, Just bought the Adapted shield for my KDF, and its' the wrong skin.....So again tell me they can't do this? They have no problem breaking it to work. Also when I dropped that shield into the upgrade system....It also changed its Icon....Still same WRONG Visual from Omega.
By it not being something they can do, that means more like. We dont have time were already behind on the Next ship release they have planned and need to pump that out like yesterday.
The issue is, that when dealing with ships, you're not dealing with one model... You're dealing a model for Saucer, Nacelle, Hull, pylons, deflector, wings... Each of them are separate entities.
The sets have preset coordinates for the mesh, while the textures are overall files.
So where you can simply apply the texture to the whole ship, the set textures are individual textures based on what set-pieces you have mounted... Add to that, that it seems the the set textures are mostly alpha-channel (they just overlay your currently selected textures... not replace them).
It would make em bug bucks, of this I'm certain. And this is actually something people *want* (as opposed to, say. Simple Ship Transitions).
Maybe they should do one of them little polls again (at the top of the page). I bet they'd see a major support for it.
