I understand why the Guardian couldn't have a Command seat when it first came out - because Command didn't exist yet as a specialization - but doesn't it make much more sense to have one of those instead of an Intel slot? Make it so.

I'd be open to a hybrid universal that could slot any specialization.
This would be best, of course, but Cryptic (1) seems allergic to truly universal slots of late, possibly because they (2) want to sell new ships.

Well I don't really see a problem with allowing ships like the Guardian, that are NOT specifically Intel ships, to be able to be multi role. After all, we're talking a Lt. seat. The specialist ships like the Eclipse would still be obviously Intel, and the new Command ships would obviously be Command. But the generalized ships that only have a Lt. Spec seat could open the door to exposure to the new Specializations, thus allowing for people to experience it and might even help sell the specialist ships since people would want higher end Specialization abilities.

I wouldn't mind the Guardian, Aelahl, Mat'Ha, or Sheshar getting a UniSpec Hybrid seat. It would be especially beneficial for players with them, and allow some extended use of them, as well as make them even more worth their cost.
However, for those hoping for a T6 Galaxy, that will definitely end any chance of that.
And they're not likely going to nerf Intel until they have a new replacement for it that's just as good, or even better. After all, Intel helped sell the Tron ships (I liked them, but not everyone else does), and still is helping sell them even now.

One, it may step on the toes of a t6 Galaxy.
The other mind flat out agrees with you.
Big "No" from me.

You know that's gonna get nerfed, right? It has to be.
