I'm not so sure it is hating PvP as much as people are sick of it, and I can't say I blame a lot of people for feeling that way. I mean I'll try and keep this concise but from where I'm sitting there's a few issues that have always been prevalent.
The first is that the regular PvPer's are a minority, which I happen to remember even one of the devs said that the regular PvP community is so small it does affect the willingness to add content for them. I'd be interested if anyone could actually dig up where that was from because I remember that vividly. It does then beg the question why PvP would ever get revamped in the first place when that's the line you hear on the state it is in.
Secondly, there is a similar issue to why many people hate on the DPS League folks. That's that some of the folks who make the noise are detestable little nobody's who think it's okay to belittle others for even remotely going against what they say, whether intentional or not. When those people are what most people see come out of those communities you can't blame them for taking a disliking to them. After all, most times I see people get hated upon it is usually because they've given people a reason to, sane and respectable people making the same point generally don't get given grief.
As to why the PvPer's are being beaten on now after all the other issues that got introduced? I have a feeling that's self-inflicted after that disgusting BS in the thread regarding the new EP. Going back to my second point, that was just a perfect case in point of what happens when the wastrels get vocal and attack anything and everything for no good reason, it just makes a mockery of the community and achieves little else.
Now of course Cryptic really need to get their act together over the game, this whole thing with DR is just a complete mess. However as nice as it would be for the game to work for everyone, it doesn't give anyone the license to belittle others in a demeaning manner.
Well, to start, I believe that was Geko or D'Stahl a long time ago who said that. Could be mistaken, but I feel like it was one of those two.
I've made some jokes in the past about the DPS folks. I have nothing against them, but more would joke about how they tended to take the blame for things since there were even fewer PvPers to blame nowadays.
I don't know what happened in that thread, so I'd like to ask for some links to show me what you mean.
I do agree that Cryptic needs to pull together and fix some stuff. But I don't really think hating on PvPers is really necessary anymore. Sure I can't make people not post a PvP-based thread here or anywhere else, nor can I move threads since I am not a mod, but I really don't see the point. The playerbase really doesn't need to have an 'us vs. them' mentality about different groups of people playing the game. Doesn't matter who said what, it's all fluff, doesn't matter, move on from it. Focus on the issues with the actual game, not the people playing it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
hmm... as someone who "bared the flag" over there i have to say that i did drop valid points, at least from my perspective.
and i not got myself to be too polite with people that commented on the manner while, obviously, sayin nothing but "meeh, pvp sux" or dropping invalid points like "there's no potential in pvp/not a pvp game" and so on. bs stays bs, no matter what paint one puts on it.
the devs already killed it with fire and still people have the impression they have to heaten the fire. i can take that. indeed that's the moment i feel i have to jump the fire, at least as long as i see just the most little of a chance.
may one could blame me for, but not for the points i did drop.
it's always kinda funny to me when people only listen to the sound of a statement while totally leaving the content and/or context out of sight (more funnier is when there's only sound and no content at all).
that's something i barely ever can take, in here or elswhere. and i have absolutely no problem to talk to people the way i think they'll understand or just deserve it imo (yep, i know...).
language is a colorful thing and as i said once in the ionic-thread:

one can raise opinions in many ways. for some it's easier if u go polite and some come to get it if u rage. some only get it if u rage first and then go polite or the other way round.... some never get it, sure. but actually i just wanted to be clear as i can be on the matter in all the ways.
and nope, it's not always about contents in a online-forum/-games what can get one into rage-mode (u know, there's a world outside).
there's more about mood and reaction than the content and players of this game, though sometimes there are parallels and influences. i hope i explained it in a psychological way u can read, as u seem to be interested in psychologics.
short: read it whatever way u want, i don't care... as long as u understand what is meant. well if ya not, it also doesn't really bother me, but i'd liked u to. and as said i don't want to argue with people on the internet or personally attack them, cause that now really is pointless imo (people, not authorities... even though it probably is even more pointless to attack authorities on the internet. but u know: me and authorities... ). thx.
and i'm reflective enough to know that to post this may wasn't a good idea, cause it probably won't lead anyone anywhere lol... but if ya into psychologics u probably once heard about something called the "rhetorical case" i guess... now that that case is done for me feel free to post.... whatever ;-)...

i didn't drop this to justify any of my posts on this forums. it's meant to be an explanation how even some more chilled people (i mostly am very chilled lol) can draw and use a sword .
one last thing: the one who attacks should be able to take one aswell imho. and i not quoted u because u did attack or such. ur post just led me to the guess i'll just may give a little explanation why i did what i did the way i did. i won't leave a chance to remind cryptic on their stories about pvp-updates as long i'm in the mood to do so.
damn that rhetorical case lol
i noticed hardly anyone pvps anyone know why? i have pvped one time it lasted 8 sec i got one shot off before dieing and i am lvl 60 with 57k hull and 20.3k shield i thought my loss was because i am green when it comes to pvp on sto . i am going to try again when i have full fleet/rep gear or am i wasting my time?
Well... mostly people got tired of people finetuning mechanics to be almost unstoppable in PVP which the average MMO player doesnt have a thick enough skin to be abused that much.
And the maps are about as boring as any pvp maps in any game. All though Neverwinter has some interesting PVP concepts. This game... the IP... isnt really focused on PVP.

just a short fun fact now that i'm already here :
the game, gamedesign and -mechanics wise, is perfect for pvp. almost kind of unique with a high quality-flavor and almost endless build- and style possibilities for ship- and teambuilds. due to the grind it's also already highly monetized imo. to stay competitive u have to be on a certain gear level (which raised and raised since s6).
as i said so often: every pvp'er is a hardcore pve'er and many of them are/have been (the ones who left and those are not just a few) top notch whales.
the devs, or better the games progression policy, just do care so less that it got screwed up in a way that seems unfixable to many by now (s5 server would be nice lol).
btw: the ip not excludes pvp. plotwise (what is not plotwise on tv?) it's canon many many times. one of the more famous examples may would be st3 or 6 battles f.e..
even more funnier fact:
all those neverwinter perks were promised long ago to get carried over to sto (same engine). indeed those would have been the back of the promised "pvp-season". if u're interested in what was said about pvp company-side look here:
1. the rewards for winning are non existant for the time involved
2. the quality off peoples ships are far too appart. for instance someone in a free t5 ship srmed with blue mk 12 gear roles into pvp before promptly getting blown up by a scimitar warbird being flown with 30million EC off gear and a further 30 million ec worth off bridge crew and doffs.
3. it feels far to much like starwars with all the cannons fireing everywhere and ships outrunning torpedos, not that theres anything wrong with starwars. but i came here to play trek with beams off doom being fired around with smaller ships ducking and weaving opening fire on already weakend ships.
4. community is far too split, hardcore players who sit in premaid teams and casual players who stroll in on there own before getting blown up by concentrated fire from several ships

Always seems to be Geko doesn't it? Whoever it was though at least I'm not the only one who remembers.
Anyway, http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1365441 this was the thread I was referring to, it kinda started on the first page. It was what it blossomed into that wasn't too clever.

so it's worth a bitter lulz from here to see neverwinter being stated in that regard . no offence .
