I love Star Trek....I used to love STO. Now with the way things are going with the game, I am going to look for another F2P MMO until PWE/Cryptic can get the tribble out of their tail end and stop TRIBBLE around. There are bugs that have been around since beta. The player base is not happy with the grind, time-gates, and dilithium sinks. Content is rushed out with little care if it works. C-Store ships are antiquated the moment you buy them because they are nerfed within a week of release. And most of the features that the players enjoyed are now nerfed beyond pure grind. I can't even bring myself to play more than a few minutes before it sucking life out my enjoyment.
Am I leaving permanently, no. I will have my account and characters until the servers get pulled. But until the Devs start realizing the mindset of : "We gave the players everything we wanted, why aren't they Happy?" is the most self-centered mind set of ANY company, I don't think I'll come back.
Devs, stop producing content for one year and do NOTHING BUT BUG FIXES and ASKING the players what they want out of STO. The majority of the players have GREAT ideas and viable solutions if you just LISTEN to them.
Until the day STO changes back for the better, My characters will explore the Andromeda Galaxy and leave STO behind.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
You know I left for about 3 weeks. And came back, I always come back to STO. It's not perfect but it is the only Star Trek I can get these days (JJ verse is not Trek)
Of course I would be happier if my KDF and KDF aligned Romulans had a little more love (especially uniform, hair and ships) but I love the game... except for the near impossibilty of getting Ancient Power Cells...
Then there was no point on doing a rage, not so permanent, quit thread if you plan on coming back..
Simple as that.
:-)
Good day to you sir.
It is not a rage quit post. More like a post informing that until the game gets fixed, I will play other games. I will never give up on STO, it's just that the devs have ruined my enjoyment of the game.

yes there is a point. This is yet another player with the same complaint I have read time and time again on these forums, reddit, twitter and FB. The point is to voice his/her opinion so that the developers of STO can read for themselves and understand that more than one person is getting tired of the cash-out/grind mentality.
If people say nothing, do nothing but praise and worship, nothing gets fixed and things only get worse. The OP is making an attempt to tell Cryptic what it is that keeps him/her from giving THEM money.
Yeah. If I needed people to pay me to make a living, I might just consider what complaints they had with me or my service. Kinda like I have to with my boss. He pays me so I'm wise to listen to his disatisfactions when they come up. Why? So I can keep making bank.
Rage on, OP! I know you loved the hell out of STO and just want it to be better.

I posted the same about 3 weeks ago. Went on to play two other games til Cryptic and PWE 'pull the tribble' so to speak. You have a lot of support btw. Not just me but the vets that used to be around. Also, ignore troll posts. They only skim through what they want to read rather than the whole story. I hope you find a new game to play soon.
I was on ESD watching Smirk post in zone chat about how things are bad and the devs want to fix them but don't know how...
Well that tells me on top of their ignorance about what people will enjoy is that the devs are Incompetent!
Geko came out as said that he grinds Argala on his toon and he hates it.
WELL IF HE HATES IT AND HE DESIGNED THE GAME IT MEANS HE'S BAD AT HIS JOB!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Was that enough before the lock?
Part of the problem (a huge part) is the engine itself. In all fairness, it was an outdated engine when they used it for champions. While it allows for some good stuff (customizations and such), it was out dated, but a lot of the people who built it left the company shortly after. With Star Trek specifically, they really only had a short time to make the game as well. When perpetual only had some pretty photos to show after a few years of development, they lost the IP, and Cryptic was able to snatch it up based on the premise that they would be able to deliver the game in a relatively short time.
Slap around the engine a bit and adjust a few things, and super heroes be come spacemen. The issue there became one of adding things to an engine people weren't too familiar with. Over all, they did pretty well for a while, but now it's showing the damages. They can't add things without breaking things, and while bugs are normal for game additions, these aren't just bugs. There is a general instability happening here. I'm sure by now that you've noticed more frequent down times, that both the anniversary and winter events don't really work despite regular patches. Heck, even actual game features aren't working, and they don't even tell you about those. Remember the whole [BORG] debacle?
They threw a game together as quickly as they could on an engine that was already too old on the their first game with it, so 5 years later yeah, there are going to be a lot of problems they just can't fix. Add into the mix new employees, old employees leaving or being transferred to other games, and a parent company that really keeps pushing them to add sinks (not the clean kind) and you get the mess we have here now.
We all love Star Trek. A lot of the devs love Star Trek, and honestly, they put in a good days work to make this game what it is, but honestly, they can only do so much with how little they have to work with here. I honestly think that this game has hit the breaking point, and they can't really do much here with out causing more issues.
Seeing as they can't make STO: the next generation (lifers would be too angry) and they can't replace the busted crusty engine with a new sexy one, we're stuck with what we have. Just look at poor champions. The only reason that's as stable as it is, is because they stopped developing for it a year into the game (for STO), and only rarely add things to the game.
Too bad the vehicles there aren't anywhere near as cool as they are in this game.
Either way, i try to never give the Devs, individually, a hard time, because they're great people just doing the best with what they've been given. Company wise, I don't like Cryptic for a lot of what they've done and continue to do. Until some one gives us a better Star Trek MMO, people will continue to play here because let's face it, the Star Wars MMO isn't doing a whole lot better on their end, and the next big Space MMO is still a ways off.
I don't blame anyone for quitting for legit reasons, or in the case of the OP, just needing a little time off. This game is a mess...

Here is a little side note on that issue (I read the chat as well).
STOP ADDING NEW, BROKEN/INCOMPLETE SYSTEMS IF YOU CAN"T FIX THEM. There was a good core game here at one point and it's gotten out of hand because bug after bug piled up on one another and kept getting pushed under the rug for the next, great cash-in scheme and now we have a house of cards and no one has a key.
I KNOW Cryptic has the talent to get the game in working order, I'm just not sure there's the will to do it when they can just keep on making new ships and cashing in.
I love threads like OPs because they make it this huge emotional dramatic hullabloo over doing what rational adults normally do very calmly in the same situation - "I don't really like _____ so I'm gonna go do something else."
Am I leaving permanently, no. I will have my account and characters until the servers get pulled. But until the Devs start realizing the mindset of : "We gave the players everything we wanted, why aren't they Happy?" is the most self-centered mind set of ANY company, I don't think I'll come back.

I hope you do realise that what you've just written is self-centered as well. You say the Devs should stop producing content, a lot of players would disagree with making that the priority.
That is part of the problem: everyone wants something different. And everyone (including the devs themselves) thinks that what they want is what everyone else wants. So you're displaying the same behaviour and doing exactly the same thing of which you're accusing the dev's.
I do agree that a lot of stuff could have gone better though. The release of DR which broke accolades, uniform unlocks and probably several other systems, which had missions that were bugged even after Tribble testers pointed out those bugs in advance, the winter event that was bugged for almost a month: yes, stuff should be tested and better evaluated before it is released.
I would still rather have bugged new content than no content at all.....it least I don't pretend to speak for everyone else
So you would rather have broken content, constant desktop crashes, and the inability to finish missions than wait and have new content that was thoroughly tested and bug fixed?
I, and MANY, MANY other players would rather have QUALITY content over Quantity content ANY DAY.
I'll be taking a short break from the game soon. Not because I don't like or am tired of it, ohhh no, but the opposite - I love it, and spend far too many hours playing. It's starting to eat into the rest of my life, so I'm going to take a few weeks off to reacquaint myself with reality. When I do escape, I won't make a big song and dance about it, neither shall I spend much time in the forums, why would I if I'm not playing the game? (I will keep a beady eye on the news page however).
- Create more content so there is less repetition, aka grind.
- Create less content, but with less bugs.
- Create NO new content until the bugs are fixed.
- Make the gameplay harder because it is too easy.
- Make the gameplay easier because it is too hard.
- Stop making changes to the gameplay.
- Release new ships.
- Stop releasing new ships because it makes my old ships feel jealous and I just bought them a year ago. They should stay top of the line forever.
- Release the ship I want, but none of those other ships.
Any STO designers who take forum requests at face value were driven insane long ago, and they've forgotten the proper chess move to be beamed up from the asylum.
At this point, I honestly don't blame the OP. I've been here since 2010, dealt with poor customer service when their Season 4 eff up made my comp crash until other players helped me fix it almost a year later, ability tray bugs that none of their team responded to, nerfs to general fun that use to make the game enjoyable, a false infraction (from a known biased former mod) that was "passed" along to other people and never got addressed., fixing things that don't need to be fixed, and now this ridiculous BOff and icon change?
I'm burnt out on all this. The negatives are outweighing the positives for me, so I can just imagine how the average, casual game player or casual Trek fan must feel.

I was Klingon before Klingon was cool.

Yes, it is. Sorry, but that's the truth. No amount of denial can undo what is true.
Putting out bugfixes and nothing else for a year? Because that worked so well the last time.
Unreasonable post is unreasonable.
