i think we all have been very patient, and changing heads (exec prod) when the hands (devs) aren skilled, wont make this game better at any chance

broken
bugged
keeps people crashing to desktop
server shutdowns
loginproblems
and its really time to just FIX IT before its dead. you think well change to one of the other "imperfect world" games then? never ever.
its just time to take that whole thing offline for 1week-1month, give out 1k free zen to everyone and bring it back after it got repaired.
basically NOTHING in this game works as intended anymore.
if its the ui, that keeps mixing up skills, bos, doffs, rd ui whatever
or the game itself, that shuts down every third maptransfer, or just disconnects you
whatever, its just BROKEN and beyond "acceptable"
many may have grown tolerant to sniffing and playing with what comes of your backsides, but this isnt acceptable anymore.
it has to be repaired, or those "events" will eventually! just kill away ALL customers. you know what? the whales wont stay either, when there are no players to play with anymore.
ive played many many years of wow and i never experienced so much unprofessionality in programming before.
i experienced lags in wow in 40men raids, but not while actually playing "tetris" minigames like its here.
the more events you spew out, the more people you will actually drive OFF long term. cause these events only show what your code/servers cannot handle, as soon as some "more" people are ACTUALLY PLAYING.
either stop stupid events, or just upgrade your serverfarms and loginsservers, so they can handle all these maptransfers and logins and minigames, or just leave out all those small bites that actually kill the servers down.
make direct transfer from x->y instead of having to pass through 5 maptransfers just to get from esd (leaving esd to sol, leaving sol to sector, passing through sector, entering k7 orbit, going down k7 station o0 wtf)to lets say k7 ground ... it could be 2 maptransfers or lets say 3, thats nearly half, and means half load for your tiny servers.
You don't understand coding, do you? Or how the Internet works, for that matter - the worst lags we've been experiencing have been due to Cogentco, the ISP upstream of the single Cryptic server farm, apparently deliberately slowing traffic.
When you inherit spaghetti code, you can maintain it, you can ignore it while rewriting the software from line 10, or you can completely take the system down during repairs. Option 3 obviously is not possible; option 2 would result in no maintenance for some time, which I doubt anyone here would find palatable. Maintenance of the code, and replacing sections where possible, is the only option truly available when the environment is expected to operate continuously.
(Believe me, I know from spaghetti code. My first, and due to its ongoing nature only, assignment during my Air Force enlistment involved upgrading HQ SAC's nuclear-planning software, originally written in FORTRAN, to COBOL. I never did figure out why some of those constant values were originally assigned...)

Welcome to STOs 5th year! You must be new around here...It's been BUGGED since beta.
Some bugs have been fixed but others are like the Kobali...they come back and been here since day 1

Damn, that sounds interesting! I suppose all the stuff you dealt with is kept locked down by some kind of official secrets act like we Brits have?
I think you mean lose, not loose. I know this isn't an english class, but if you're going to start spewing ultimatums like a Hollywood villain, at least have the decency to fix grammatical errors.

Vague. But certainly broken in some respects.
bugged
Games have bugs. This isn't news.

All valid problems, but eventually they get fixed.

"It"? The game? Do you believe they just have a switch that says "Fix Game" and "Break Game" and they just refuse to pull the switch in the other direction?
you think well change to one of the other "imperfect world" games then? never ever.
I don't think they're counting on that, but I don't think they'd mind.
its just time to take that whole thing offline for 1week-1month, give out 1k free zen to everyone and bring it back after it got repaired.
This is a bad idea worthy of being placed in video game history in a monument of bad ideas.

I don't know. I've grown to accept it. Your mileage may vary.

Some people think cucumbers taste better pickled.
i experienced lags in wow in 40men raids, but not while actually playing "tetris" minigames like its here.
I am starting to suspect you have a poor understanding on how netcode works. And really how game development in general works.
the more events you spew out, the more people you will actually drive OFF long term. cause these events only show what your code/servers cannot handle, as soon as some "more" people are ACTUALLY PLAYING.
So Cryptic is then failing their way upwards? Okay, then. Sure.
either stop stupid events, or just upgrade your serverfarms and loginsservers, so they can handle all these maptransfers and logins and minigames, or just leave out all those small bites that actually kill the servers down.
Now I'm firmly of the belief you have a poor understanding on how netcode works.
make direct transfer from x->y instead of having to pass through 5 maptransfers just to get from esd (leaving esd to sol, leaving sol to sector, passing through sector, entering k7 orbit, going down k7 station o0 wtf)to lets say k7 ground ... it could be 2 maptransfers or lets say 3, thats nearly half, and means half load for your tiny servers.
If you have no idea what you are talking about, don't make these statements as if you do. Because some people on these forums might actually take your opinion at face value.

I'm with iconians on this one.
And why do people keep speaking as if they speak for the entire community in their complaints and rants?
I'm happy with the fact we at least have a game to play. It may have its problems, but what game doesn't? Even the almighty WoW has its problems. Back when I played, they had goldsellers spaming trade chat and there were scammers trying to steal accounts by PMing promises of epic mounts to players. And that's just what I remember. I don't remember any particular bugs because I never played long enough.
id like to guess i am way better in my second language than you are in yours.
the many and many players, that keep reporting bugs and bugs in a forum part, thats actually buigger than the rest of all forum parts combined.
So why post this? If you can't even wait for Stephen Ricossa to get settled into his chair, and if you truly don't think the game can be made better, why waste your time and energy?
im telling you that changing heads wont make programmers underneath that head more skilled. you can change out the captain, this wont make a pakled better at coding. got it now?
on my side it got worse, i cant stay in more than 5minutes in a row, or mapchange, or move at all.
its broken in more aspects than its not-broken in others. i can hardly touch any "part" (meaning like doff, space ui, ground ui, whatever) of the game, without encountering a bug after 2min at last.
this game has many many bugs, a shame that this isnt "news" anymore, but like ... common sense and accepted.
all i see is that they add more and more features before fixing old ones. (example. loadouts unfixed, next feature "ship swap" that directly touches loadouts as well)
i dont see any fixes around. (they said they fixed loadouts like 5times, its still bugged ...) sry i see bugs that are here since beta, i see more lockboxes, more grinds, more nerfs, and more shiny cstore things, while the game basis is eroding until the whole building will fall.
tell me 3 things working as intended, and i tell you 3 for each! that doesnt work as intended in return.
people growing acceptance towards bad work, while still paying for it (even if its for store items and not for networking directly) IS THE MAIN PROBLEM.
its like they pay for bad punshed drugs until it kills them eventually. its like addicts. but those addicts keep pw way clear for bad coding and getting away with it and even making money out of bad coding.
(explaination: making money of bad coding: the event was bugged, what did people do? they baught keys and hunted lobi for realmoney to get around broken content, so they PAYED for broken content! or lets put it: they payed for getting around broken elements. thats a whole new step in freemium isnt it?)
Pretty sure they all clock in and leave home every day as usual, and we continue to get patches to fix things.
so far, 5 loadout fixes didnt fix anything. if a housemaid ineeds 5 attempts in cleaning your room before its clean, would you pay her 5times? some may not even pay her once ...
I am starting to suspect you have a poor understanding on how netcode works. And really how game development in general works.
of course i do, thats why im not coding and not a worker in network surroundings, that what cryptics devs should also consider.
i can only judge their endresult of course and revert-assume that they did a poor job, because ive seen other games working drastically more stable.
they are not failing upward. they are dragging unsuspected customers with events, driving customers that had invested crazy. thats basically saying: you payd, go away we want new payers. you alreadyp ayed, and seen that we dont deliver, we sont need you, we need new stupid customers, that dont know about all our faults yet.
so in the long run they loose, cause sometime everyone will KNOW that this company isnt delivering good games. they are just "heating" customers through their machine. old ones out, more new in, cause new ones will pay, old ones have paid and wont pay anymore.
I'm happy with the fact we at least have a game to play. It may have its problems, but what game doesn't? Even the almighty WoW has its problems. what you mention isnt exactly blizzards fault. as if this game hasnt spammers ... lol.
"It may have its problems, but what game doesn't?" - this is apologetic rhetoric nonsense.
wow never had SO MUCH problems AT ONE TIME, and at the same time FOR SO LONG time.
id like to guess i am way better in my second language than you are in yours.
Fair enough. You have a point.
this game has many many bugs, a shame that this isnt "news" anymore, but like ... common sense and accepted.
It's accepted by many because it's true. All games have bugs. Some worse than others. It really comes down to which bugs can be tolerated and which ones can't. Yes, there are bugs that are difficult for me to tolerate.
all i see is that they add more and more features before fixing old ones. (example. loadouts unfixed, next feature "ship swap" that directly touches loadouts as well)
If that is all you see, there is nothing I can show you over the past 4 years to change your mind. Bug fixes happen. Some more slowly than others. Some never get fixed at all.
tell me 3 things working as intended, and i tell you 3 for each! that doesnt work as intended in return.
Irrelevant. I know you can easily name 3 things that don't work as intended, but if you can acknowledge that I am able to point out 3 things that do work as intended, then that is proof in of itself that there are aspects of this game that do work as intended.
people growing acceptance towards bad work, while still paying for it (even if its for store items and not for networking directly) IS THE MAIN PROBLEM.
I'd rather have bad work than no work at all. I'd rather have STO than no STO at all. But that's just me.
its like they pay for bad punshed drugs until it kills them eventually. its like addicts. but those addicts keep pw way clear for bad coding and getting away with it and even making money out of bad coding.

I don't disagree that the gambling aspects of lockboxes are ethically questionable. It is something I have always been vehemently against, even though I do understand they make money, and they make money very quickly and easily with minimum effort.
so far, 5 loadout fixes didnt fix anything. if a housemaid ineeds 5 attempts in cleaning your room before its clean, would you pay her 5times? some may not even pay her once ...
Sometimes, yeah. But there are multiple maid services. There is only one STO. So sometimes we have to take what we can get. You're not okay with that, and that's fine. I also wish some of these fixes were actually permanent.
so in the long run they loose, cause sometime everyone will KNOW that this company isnt delivering good games. they are just "heating" customers through their machine. old ones out, more new in, cause new ones will pay, old ones have paid and wont pay anymore.
I won't disagree, necessarily. But as someone who has also been around since launch, I can say it is not their sole strategy. Player retention is something they keep in mind, although I admit sometimes they go about that priority in the most asinine way possible at times.
what you mention isnt exactly blizzards fault. as if this game hasnt spammers ... lol.
"It may have its problems, but what game doesn't?" - this is apologetic rhetoric nonsense.
wow never had SO MUCH problems AT ONE TIME, and at the same time FOR SO LONG time.
STO's spam was never on the level I saw in WoW. At some points normal trade banter was drowned out by the goldsellers. I admit this was years ago, but its what I saw.
And its not nonsense. Its the truth. MMOs by nature are constantly evolving. Every time something new is added, there is a chance that a bug is introduced because of an unforseen conflict with an older piece of code. Just because WoW is apparently "superior" in lack of bugs doesn't mean anything. It has its share of bugs, but as it is also still a subscription game where you also have to buy each new expansion, they have more money for more staff to squash those bugs. But they also have a lot more servers to maintain. There is no such thing as a bug free MMO.
if you shut this game down for a week or a month it would probably be games death knell because cbs/paramount would pull the license. if the lagging is coming from isp try another build a couple of dedicated server sites in pwe multiple locations
You speak of the bugs forums and the many threads on the amount of bugs that have been reported. As it has been mentioned by Devs on the forums, in STO podcasts for a bug to be entered , tested and fixed, a clear posting format is to be followed, which a number of times it is not.
Players want bugs fixed, and have the time to report them, it is as simple as reporting them correctly.
Anyone that served in the military as an aircraft mechanic can attest, when a pilot landed and reported general issue with the aircraft, and could not give any specific information, the maintenance action would be closed because it could not be duplicated. It applies to bug reports here.
Your passion in this game is commendable, when you are at your current point of calling for people to be fired from their jobs, anything you say that has any value is already discounted by the people who can effect change.
Hrmm, I remember when I used to read things and then reply to them. I think I skimmed it a bit, not sure if it was even a bit. But while I don't quite feel the need for folks to end up dead in some alleyway, I do have to admit to a certain growing impatience in regard to certain bugs and the overall state of lag since the Anniversary patch. My framerate shows the same, my memory usage shows the same, I can open up way too many internet connected applications as I have in previous tests, and it's the same. I just can't quite explain why I clicked on ET1 last week and I'm still waiting for it to activate.
And another person who rants on and on and says absolutely nothing.
Apologist or not, people are right when they say all MMOs have bugs.
I've experienced lags, I've experienced rubberbanding, I've experienced unexpected D/Cs. I still play the game. Why? Because, more often than not, I have more fun playing it than I've had bad times.
As my sig says, no one who plays this game is entitled to be a jerk if things aren't going their way. I'm a FtoP'er, so flame me if you want. I just can't afford even a monthly payment, so I take what I can get and I don't sit and rant about it.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
