'Finish Now' - Prompt please?

I get why R&D projects have a 'Finish Now' button, and I agree with them being available.

Can we *please* have an "Are You Sure" prompt for it? Preferably toggle-able so those who like to use it aren't inconvenienced? Most similar systems in the game have similar prompts, and it really feels wrong that this one in particular does not.

Personally, I would never ever ever spend dil to finish an assignment. I'm a casual player. I don't have the time to grind endlessly to make dilithium - I probably average 4K a day or so, mostly from doff missions. But since I am not always logged in, letting the time run is no big deal. Yet, twice now I have accidentally clicked on the 'Finish Now' button right after starting a research project. That's nearly 36K dil down the drain. To me, that's a lot.

This should have been an automatic GUI feature; sadly, it appears that Cryptic has no shame at all in taking full advantage of players' inevitable mistakes. Apparently, we deserve to be punished for less-than-perfect interaction with the GUI, no matter how much fatigue we have from the continual grind...

    Agree.

This is something that has been asked for since the system went live. Probably was asked for even when in beta.

Is it needed? No, but it would probably mend some fences at the least.

Will we see it? Not likely.

A feature well needed. It has happened just two or three times to me, but I am always on the ball, when using this interface (well, not always, of course).

To compare, if you want to delete/remove stuff from your inventory, the game asks you two or three times, are you sure. Sure? for a tribble?

It is exactly this that makes it feel like this is an intentional method of draining dilithium. Is it intentional? I actually think it was probably an oversight, but it doesn't look good.

Well this is a quite usual UI problem you see everywhere in windows, applications and also in STO:
Just the moment you want to click something, something else pops up under your cursor and poof, gone again.
On the other hand such prompts are severly anoying...

Designing around this problem is possible but difficult. The special example you named I cant really understand, the start button is far away from the finish now button... But with a different window on top maybe.

In the case of STO they certainly are. Every single are 'are you sure' prompt currently in the game could be removed and the game would in my opinion be the better for it.

However this is only because there are no 'are you sure?' prompts when it comes to finish now buttons. We could really use them added to things that spend dill and Zen and removed from things that spend EC.

The C-Store has confirmation prompts. All the in-game shops have confirmation prompts, regardless of currency.

Other than the "finish now," the most obvious place that really needs one is opening expensive item boxes (mostly ships).

There's no particular reason why they should make a different shop interface for EC-shops just because a confirmation prompt on a cheap trinket is annoying. And almost all things you'd regularly buy from an EC-shop are bought in bulk, so it has to ask you for quantity anyway. You can bypass the question by holding ctrl already, that's enough.

And I would certainly NOT want them to remove it from things like the exchange, because there are items there that cost a fortune and I don't want to accidentally buy some overpriced junk because of a misclick.

whats strange is the upgrade system has the feature the OP mentioned, which is nice i always hate not having that are you sure button. Too many times I closed a window on top of the open R&D window to almost spend the 15k dilithium when i nearly clicked the button.

The only reason I can think of that such a thing was not added despite many prior requests, comments, posts, etc. on the topic is because it is an intended dilithium sink. A misclick here and there will irritate you... but you'll get over it, move on, and they will have successfully consumed ~2.25 days of your character's refining cap with a misclick (if you were on a 20hr research project). With the RNG structure of crafting, quality upgrades, etc. inefficiencies are already designed into the system, so it makes sense that this too was an intentional part of the design.
