Oh the sense of entitlement is strong on here this week.
It's a freebie anniversary ship, it's not going to be some uber-powerful T7 mega cruiser. The whole idea of the aniversary ship is to give the players something to appreciate the fact the game is still going after a set period of time.
Even if you need to do some minor grind for it (and in the case of the Q-mini-game it literally takes a couple of mins a day), it is still a free ship for crying out loud!
There is literally nothing in this game you need to pay for with the exception of veteran rewards for lifers etc. So why people are whining about a free or nearly free item is beyond me.
Same attitude you get when they give out free C-store items, people always complain. Just be glad you get anything for free, they have no obligation to give you a dammed thing.
It's another piece of Cross-Faction copout, and it becomes WORSE if the stats are comparable to, or better than, faction specific ships already present.
This. I wonder how some poeple still keep their illusions of faction specific content up. Factions are gone, it is not object to STOs development anymore.
after four years of running close to it, they finally gave in-and now, STO is merrily heading up the ramp...the sharks in the tank aren't equipped with Lasers, of course, but they're there. and the jump is in progress.
Please. Star Trek jumped the shark so to speak during TOS. Space TRIBBLE's. Space Hippies. Space Romans. Space Gangsters... It was never something to take seriously until the films, and even then they got their laughs in.

The TRIBBLE's and the Gangsters were crazy episodes but they did provide an interesting insight as to how literally other cultures can take things even to the point being out right silly like the Gangsters Episode. You don't have to leave Earth to see cultural differences like that in real life. History has provided plenty examples there.
Someone from another culture sees something that looks really great to them even though it's silly to us, they'll want a piece of the action.

Less whining about the grind, more disappointment that after 3 years of the anniversary ships being faction-specific - a rare concession to the existence of factions! - Cryptic have now gone down the route of a cross-faction ship as for the Summer and Winter events.
Yes, the previous anniversary ships were inferior to their C-store cousins. However, they represented some of the very few releases for KDF and Romulans outside of the launch of LoR. The use of a generic ship just makes it feel like even more neglect of the factions.

I'll be honest though most anniversary ships I have acquired are still sitting in various banks never even bothered opening them. I guess for myself I won't even bother with logging in to jump thru the hoops lol.

Whats with the obsession with some of the most Fugly ships ever.. I know un canons the wrong term but is it too much to ask for that we actually get some ships that look like they belong in the ST universe and would be flown by the FED/Roms or KDF..
5 minutes parked outside spacedock looks like the Federation spent all its resources at a second hand sale in Alien garages.

Some are whining because it's an alien ship, some because you actually have to do something for it...
They could give out free T6 versions of a Galaxy class, Bird of Prey and D'deridex and you would still see people complain about it. Some would be angry because they had prefered T6 Excelsiors, Vor'chas and Scimitars. Some would be angry because their T5-U versions they've only just recently upgraded are now useless. I seriously believe (or hope) that such people are just a very loud minority. After all nobody forces them to GET those ships.
Last year I skipped out on the ship. Due I didn't have time for the grind. This year I might can pull it off like I did the Breen ship. Which I got it with less a week left to get. I love the Breen ships, so I had to get the carrier for my KDF.
As for this new ship. IF it turns out to be Kobali count me out. I won't waste my time on it. I rather have one of the Vaadwaur ships. Then I will be more happy to try to grind it out.

Cryptic: This anniversary's free ship is the Yadda-yadda.
Player: I don't want that free ship.
Cryptic: Okay.
Player: What do you mean okay? Are you going to change it?
Cryptic: No, we're not going to change it.
Player: Then what was the okay for?
Cryptic: We understand that you don't want the free ship.
Player: No, I don't want it. I want Blah-blah instead.
Cryptic: Okay.
Player: What do you mean okay? I can get the other ship?
Cryptic: No, you cannot get the other ship.
Player: Then what was the okay for?
Cryptic: We understand that you want the other ship.
Player: Yes, I want that. I don't want Yadda-yadda.
Cryptic: Okay.

A good point in the second paragraph, but the first has a big mistake.
the majority of the complaints are not that we have to do something, but that they changed "play a mission get a free ship" to "perform a meaningless task for several minutes per day for 20 days, to get a free ship". It is the change that is the problem, and this is compounded by the fact that the minigame is difficult if not impossible for some who are colorblind, rewards griefing, and not fun to many people that is the problem.
To explain those three issues: the boxes are red/blue/green with no size or other marks to distinguish them. Red/green colorblindness is quite common especially in men. Yes, there have been problems in previous years.
The fastest way for most people to complete the game last year was to ignore the shell game, and just start as many as possible at once running from mini q to mini q, locking out all other people in your zone for several minutes as they did their thing. Then catch the ones who did the second game " tag" and backtrack to randomly guess hoping that the 1:3 odds gets you a few correct. Having just three people on a map using this strategy meant the zone with 20 people was full of 15+ people wandering from q to q unable to interact or even try to participate. It was not cool.
Under ideal circumstances a minigame is just that a "game". The " shell game" is called a "game" not because it is fun but because it is gambling. No one does it for free for fun. There were and will be again many people who hate the game itself. Contrast with, say, angry birds or tetris or even something like Pacman. Those are actual/games that people generally consider fun. Certainly more than the number who enjoy the shell game on its own merits. And i'd be willing to betmy new laptop that returning to "play one mission one time, get a ship" would be more popular than the shell game.
With the second chapter that has just been released, it sounds like a Kobali Cruiser is going to be what's in store. Already feeling greatly underwhelmed & disappointed. Another massive "F U!" from the guys @ Craptic.

Agreed the daily task is anything but interesting. But it's still just a 5 minute thing if you know what to do. There's a simple trick that will make this task much easier (assuming they haven't changed it since last year):
Down in Starfleet Academy you only interact with those little Q's that have a health bar above their head. Those are the runners. If there's no health bar visible it will be a shell game. This is easy enough even for colorblinds.

*Nods* That didn't work for me last year, nor did the "kneel inside the box and look for q in sniper mode". Dunno why, but both certainly worked for several of my friends. Hopefully they'll help some people this year too.
The Samsar (see what they did there?) is a neat idea. At least its a cross-faction ship that isn't tied to a lockbox or promotion.
While I honestly would prefer the way the pre-Dyson era anniversaries were handled, this seems to be an improvement.
Assuming the Samsar is tier 6 (why wouldn't it?) then that means no C-Store release (which would be odd anyway, cross-faction ships don't belong there).
So even if we have to grind Qmendations, its still better than last year:
Last year had you get 1000 Qmendations (600 after the featured episode) for a rather dinky tier 5 ship with 9 consoles. The C-Store then had 3 variations (that were all 10 console versions) for each faction of it. Thats a lot of Zen. And lets not forget, that you couldn't complete the associated console set without owning the three-packs (or the Secondary Deflector without getting the Qmendation version). So you needed 4 ships total for the whole thing:
- 1000 Qmendations + 5000 Zen* + playing the FE 3 times (*or more if you wanted the 3 pack for all 3 factions) = very expensive
This is year, it might be:
- 1000 Qmendations + playing the FE a few times = DONE!
Its not great, but a signifcant improvement if my theory turns out to be right.
You'll have to wait for the next expansion.
And even then, it will be a standard T6 which will require 900 Lobi to get the fleet-level variant out of the Lobi store. For those that miss the event, they will be able to get the standard T6 for 700 Lobi out of the store so they can run the 2pc set bonus that will be fixed 3-5 months down the road amidst the rage of complaints of nerfs.
Yeah, they were giving out Star Trek Online Magic 8 Balls at one of the conventions, no lie - I shook it while asking the question and that's the answer it gave!
Wishful thinking that there won't be any C-Store ships.
They're debuting the Command Specialization. Of course there's going to be a series of new ships to utilize it.
My only real question is if they will grandfather those inevitable C-Store ships into the Delta Rising Pack the way they did with the ships of the Legacy of Romulus Pack.

You may want to check that again...what happened with the LoR Pack and what didn't happen with the LoR Pack. Cause it came up quite a bit with a few ships...and uh...didn't happen.
