Disappearing R&D Missions

Someone in one of the chat channels I am in keeps getting R&D missions dropped. They are in progress but then get dropped without the rewards when the person has not been logged in for a day or so. If the person logs on and off quickly the missions are still there. All R&D missions the person tested seemed to have the issue.
Seems to be intermittent and happens cross faction and cross specialization.
Is occurring with: beams/ cannons, ground, science, and engineering at least.
This bug has been occurring since R&D started.
