Again . . . it's a game. We do our best to make things make sense, but at the end of the day, we have to make things functional and cool from a gameplay standpoint.
So ... opening and closing bio-bed scanners , Voyager style ?
... because that's asking small things ... unlike say ... asking for a unified Sector Space ...
The old ESD was trash, as a new player it is endless confusing to find anything, you run around in circles constantly looking for things, and even if you know where it is, you have to run in a giant circle to get to it. It wasn't practical at all.
New player retention is more important than people remembering the good ole days.
Which is silly in my opinion. A lot of the so-called issues were due to impatience and laziness.
It took ten minutes of exploring to figure everything out when I was a greenhorn on my first character. Every freakin' corridor had signs with pictograms, and the center intersection acted as a quick short cut.
If people chose to run circular marathons, and couldn't be bothered to check out the hub on their first run....well, that was their problem.
The whole getting lost and marathon TRIBBLE, to be frank, is a load of bull.

^^ This.
The color-coding was very functional. And you either ran a sem-circle, or a shortcut thru the inner section.
Uh. . . wha? The shipyard is open already. Where have you been outfitting your ship?
I meant the shuttlebay, my apologies. I am imagining it like the shuttlebay at the embassy, where you can go down between the shuttles and roam around in there, like the old one at esd used to be if I recall correctly. It looks very spacious on the other side of the unpassable barrier, I look forward to see that whole expanse open up and reveal esd in its full scope, size and splendor.

Yeah, they have said repeatedly that they have no intention of ever opening up that shuttle bay to explore.
It's only ever been intended to be a backdrop viewed from one perspective, and isn't actually built to stand up to scrutiny from close up or alternate angles.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.
