While ths was probably meant as a joke it actually could be for all we know. It's not the first time that something would be "too rewarding" and gets nefred via a emergency maintenance within hours after it's release.
"Fix the dang bugs!!" "What? The server is down so they can fix a bug?!?! WTF?? I wanna play but they are fixing bugs how dare you take the server down while I'm trying to play!!"

That's because they fix the WRONG bugs. If important items got fixed, we'd probably complain less.
You mean that weird bright stuff outside? I thought the streetlights were all set on "high beam". Or the Moon was closer to the Earth than its been in millions of years (a la "The Mercury Men" internet series). Or maybe I'm actually a Reman in human disguise.

But just a little less mind you...
7am to 9am PST. But they started 5 minutes late.
Oooh because they did fix things?
People aren't complaining that much because they have to turn the server off for their maintenance, but because their yesterday's maintenance took twice the normal time only to break even more stuff than before.
sto goes offline and nothing from our great community Management -
That was my thought as well. What is the point in having Community Manager's if they can't carry out the simple duty of keeping the players informed?

LOL they fix my tool tray now my ship keeps changing its inventory when i beam back up,,,,,:(
I have the same problem. Locking the tray (Press P and tick the 'Lock Tray' option) somehow fixed it for me. This could be used as a temporarily solution until the devs can provide a real fix.
i have never come across a dame that employs so many so called programers. im just going back to games you can actually play not ones that you have to wait to play. and what do they charge for are yall that pay for memberships still allowed to play or not. if not then why are yall paying money to a game that hires 1st year community collage drop outs instead of real qulified programmers? this game and the programmers are a complete joke. all this maintaince and i still see people complaining about the same problems as they did a year ago. so they take this stuff down and still cant fix TRIBBLE. i would be utterly embarassed to take credit for this and even more so to call it working program
wondering why ppl still play the winter Events...the winter mats cost nothing on the exchange, so you dont need to farm the events - maybe except the epoh stuff.
Why buy on the exchange things you can get free from a few minutes playing? And for things to be on the exchange, SOMEONE needs to farm them. While they do materialize out of thin air, they only materialize when doing certain things, most of which involve QWW stuff.
sure, before dr i played 6 hours in week per day and 16 at Weekend per day, after dr 2 hours in week and 1,5 hours on Weekend.
Why not just have 2-3 toons and really play. with 25 Toons you don´t play the game, you just grind for stuff you will probably never use often to make it worth the grind.
i have 2 toons i actively use and one "emergency" toon on Lvl 47 for things like the race

Because you still need to do 10 runs of Tides to be able to buy the Breen Warp Core (which, as I understand it, allows you to double buff transphasic torpedos, by alllowing you to fly the 2 piece breen bonus and the 2 piece adapted maco bonus at the same time).
A new patch to fix what they broke that should've been fixed with the last patch that took twice the announced time? Do they even know what "fixing" mean? And how long this maintenance is supposed to even be? Ten hours?
The fact that the login servers died while trying to restart the cluster after the patch is unrelated to the patch. That's what took the extra time yesterday. (The login servers are what does the syncing between the databases and your character on login and map changes).
I sure hope they extend this weekends fm boost event into next week, some of us are not gonna have time to be on sto now that our open time is being used up on these surprise matienances.
You mean the Elachi event? The FM Boost event isn't until the end of the month IIRC?

In all fairness here, it is only a little past 7 AM there. If it is emergency/unscheduled maintenance they are not going to wake Smirk up just to tell him to post an update on the forum. That is not saying someone from the update team should not have posted something on the forum, or at least the Launcher, but we really cannot blame Smirk for emergencies that pop up while he is sleeping.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Indeed, he is probably to preoccupied building and playing with his desk toys to bother with us.
Or eating! He seems to do this a lot at work, especially during the live streams. The way he carries on while eating during the live steams, you'd think he hadn't eaten in weeks.

It is becoming a bad habit though that our community management seems to, well, be strangely absent when something unschedulded happens.

It's a basic tenet of delivering an exceptional customer experience to make sure that you're eating something while talking to them...
here is what happens - the "monitization guys" look at what's happening and say this, and to be fair, people with other concerns might say something similar
"holy cow, look at how much people are buying!, these things are not going to be as rare/elite as we wanted!, we have to nerf the drop rate right now so they stay cool and people will lust after them more and spend more $$"
unfortunately, the only reason people are buying is that with all the sheshar ding-spam (people winning sheshars ingame notifications) it gives people the impression that they have a chance
take away that impression, that belief among customers, sales drop off
EDIT: but hey, if it's about bugs from code merges, cool. bug fixes are good.

(yes, I'm kidding)
Still funny how people flip flop and don't understand that the world doesn't revolve around them.
You're not the only one I'm sure. Don't know if you saw the other posts btw, but your sig quote is wrong. Wibble, not woobal.

I swear the whole company should be sold to China and the staff fired.
Actually speedtest is not the correct one if it is packet loss it is pingtest.net ps it is not speedtest.org but speedtest.net
