Challenge spam on Winter wonderland

defiant8472defiant8472 Member Posts: 38 Arc User
Hello,

Few hours in row someone launched some challenge spam bot and while i write something in zone chat in Winter Wonderland zone, almost all the time i getting invitation to challenge from same person (sometimes even few times in row), i saw other players was annoyed with it too, they writen about it on zone chat.

Interesting how to handle such challgenge spam bots? We're unable to report them, unable to block them, i don't see any information nickname@username in any of chat/log windows to be able at least to block it... Any1 can help with it ? I see here lack of functionality aginst such type of game abuse... Even unable to change that window location in "Rearrange HUD" settings, to move it somewhere away from screen center.

P.S.
As i am pure and only PvE player i up to disable challenges invitation at all, just unsure how. I not interested in it as have issues with anger management and i am unable to do PvPs as take this to serious and then can broke PC or something at home & etc :) 7 years of martial arts, so can do plenty of harm with it.

Now, on the OP's issue. Ignore settings should have been updated, but if not, there's a quick way to change privacy settings--hit O, go to "Team", there's a button marked "privacy" on the right. Click it, change your settings to what you like (for example, to autodecline fleet map invites from non-friend non-fleet people), and hit OK.

Note that this may block fleet map invites, so be sure to turn it off it you're using a public service channel to get to a top-tier fleet map.

Also, when you're ignoring the spammer, REPORT him, too. Write up a short description and if possible go to arcgames.com, find the TOS, and show how the troll is violating TOS.

If this does not help, feel free to post a reply. ~ Bluegeek

See the Fleet Map invite thread for more...as I understand it the devs are working on a fix for that issue and this one will be covered in the fix as well.

It is related to a thread I started back on Nov 20th, 2014.

I am guessing you are receiving challenges from a fleet called "Saint Olivia Donation Center". Someone is basically spoofing the "Saint Olivia Fleet" and is more or less stealing a person's identity. If it is a different fleet then it is likely the person has changed the fleet name.... yet again.

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1304241

If you start receiving these challenges, then press the "O" key, and then click on the "Find Fleet" tab. If you can find the fleet click the "Details" button which will provide you with a name. You can then right click to "Ignore Player" and "Report To GM". This is likely an alternate / throw away account that the person is using to troll people. Adding the person's name to your ignore list should prevent and further challenges, however, you can still get trolled with Fleet Map Invites.

    Post #443 on page 45:
Thank you for keeping the peace BlueGeek.

I can confirm that an elite strike force of Devs, led by CaptainGeko, is working on a solution to this issue, and I trust that they will find a solution as soon as they can. They are already looking into the problem, and hope to have and update for you soon on the solution.

I'd like to send that team a thank you on behalf of the CM team, as well as on the players who have been hoping for a solution to this issue.

We hope to bring you more updates to address in-game settings soon, but in the meantime, please help us out with patience as the team looks into how to address this best. You have already waited for a long while, and for that we thank you.

Keep your eye on the upcoming patch notes for additional updates on this.

Thanks again for the reports everyone!

If they spam me like that, I usually will just agree to the match, then after it starts, I leave as soon as I can. They spend time in there looking for me, while I am already back doing what I was.

To me, it is not so much a bother. No more than the mindless fleet invites from fleets that don't care who is in their fleet, just care about the numbers.

No where... only way they ban some one in this game is if you scam their dilithium or zens.

STO is a "Free Troll land".. trolls know that and they just have partys here.

I thought the Dev said once you put a person on Ignore you have to log off then back in for it to block invites?

or is that what they said they are working on?

That was supposed to be the fix, but it didn't work. People are still getting the spam at times.

I would not recommend it unless it is via private message. Posting it on the forums is a no-go.

Now, as far as the offending party and the ban-hammer, it is possible. I refer to the Terms and Conditions of Perfect World Entertianment:

The issue as noted by the OP falls into the category of disrupting the gameplay as detailed above and, therefore, Cryptic can not merely ignore it. In fact, they are obligated to do the following upon receiving valid reports/complaints:

    1: investigate.
    2: warn the offending party
3: if said offence continues, take further action (i.e. nil their ability to chat, temporarily suspend account, etc.)
4: if said offence persists after step 3, Cryptic has the right to ban the account fully (although I do not think this would actually happen)

So continue to collect the data, make your reports and file complaints. If Cryptic does nothing, gently remind them of the TOS we are all obligated to adhere to.

thing is this has been going on for about 2 months now. For me, right on the cusp of one month and for others around two months. Now I am getting intel that yet another well known fleet is getting hit - all their members are getting spammed and their channel flooded.

I used to think if you acted up in game that you would actually catch a ban, but apparently not. I know people will say that it can be hard to nail down an IP to someone since you can just change it. Still, why have the fake accounts doing the spamming not be deactivated?

    Seriously. Why not?

At this point, the GMs have probably over a thousand tickets (I am not kidding) about this one issue. Why not just go in and turn the account off?

This makes no sense to me that the people running the game apparently have no power to even turn off an account that is clearly violating the Terms of Service.

Without getting too "venomous" at the GMs I'd have to say at this point it is becayse they lack the desire or the will to be proactive in this matter. Nothing frustrates me more than a distributor that fails to abide by its own terms and conditions.

You can get insta-banned for saying the wrong thing in general chat apaprently... the system looks for certain words or phrases and pops you on the spot. Why something can't be done for spammers is beyond me but it IS a plague of F2P games, both players and bots alike.

Being at the bottom of 3 tiers of gaming companies they probably have a ridiculous bureaucratic structure with the all of the associated human generated bottlenecks that go with it.

That's for fleet map invites. The current version is for private PvP challenges which can be blocked. Open team settings and then click the privacy button, there's an option to only let friends send you challenge invites. But once you do that the troll will send you a friend request unless you have them on ignore. This troll has been using at least 2 accounts for his spamming, so you'll probably get more than one bogus friend request.

It might just be an urban legend, but I heard that accepting the challenge request somehow gives them access to your account and or login information.

They're using about four different accounts, but has anyone got a look at the toon's they're using?

The issue is far reaching and there are multiple investigations ongoing, covered in my current comprehensive report 141211-000207 which is over a dozen pages long and documents the origin when this behavior began to occur. There is much people do not know and I will not discuss for now, but be patient. Better a conclusive resolution than a hasty temporary one. I support devs taking their time to get to the sources of troublemaking which are persistent and numerous. I and other players are tracking culprits and devs are taking the issues seriously, it will take a while but they know what they are doing.

If a dev wants to see this firsthand, just go incognito into the Winter Wonderland and complain and talk smack about Saint Olivia. Sure enough, the spam will come after a couple of minutes. Hope whomever is causing the spam gets banned.

I have had the pleasure of "Challenge spam" after I ignored the person in question and made it known in Zone chat he was being disrespectful towards a certain gender.

(I like boob jokes as the next man, but there are certain things that should never be said)

I have now updated my settings on my toons to prevent further challenges.
