Swimwear in the Snow!

kain9primekain9prime Member Posts: 739 Arc User
The title, while specific, is not intended to be. It's a means to point out silly and sometimes stupid restrictions in this game.

Clothing:

There are people running around in bikinis and space spedoes in this winter event. But, y'know...CLUB WEAR? Yeah, that's a no-no. It is FORBIDDEN that club wear be worn anywhere but near a dance floor. You shall not pass.

Cryptic, why do you make outfit restrictions? WHY? What is the point?

Ques:

Entry into FAs and STF type missions should not be restricted to ques. In Neverwinter, people can access group missions via the location, and have the option to solo. I miss the good old days of being able to have that option HERE in STO. It's no secret the que system is flawed! Bring back the location entry options.

Stop restricting players.

You may want to report swimwear being worn in the winter event in the bug report forum. They're not meant to be worn outside Risa at all.

KDF and KDF-allied Rommies can wear swimwear where they damn well please. It's been borked for a long time and shows no signs of being fixed soon. Besides, who doesn't want this?

I'm intentionally wearing the bikini-ish TOS Mirror uniform for this year's winter event, to protest map-restricting the swimsuits.

Then again, IIRC I wore that last year, too. Just for laughs. Also winter coats on Risa. It's fun.

    Stop restricting players.

Oh my hell, THIS. I would love to be able to at least attempt some queues by myself.

Sure, most of them you can't do without a group but the one that comes to mind are the "Hard" missions on Defera. I'm pretty sure those are soloable.

But then here the question. Since swimsuits are only intended to Risa. ¿does people using it on Winter Event are abusing an exploit? And, if that is the case ¿would be they punished like the people that was "abusing an exploit" in tau dewa? ¿or there is explloits goods and exploits bads for cryptic?

I think the OP brings up a sort of hidden point which is...why is Cryptic even spending its time on such ridiculousness at all...and that INCLUDES the preposterous winter event itself?!!!

Instead of gathering Andorian sleigh bells and gingerbread men, why not actually make the Breen home world and have missions on it? You know...something that would appeal to a Star Trek fan playing a Star Trek game.

Instead we have "Cold-hearted snowmen are attacking Gingerbread Colony! Team up to rescue Q's tasty colonists and recover their recipes." And it all takes place in Q's winter wonderland...swell. Where's the grab for Star Trek immersion? How is any of this like Star Trek with the exception of Q being in it or because your character is dressed like a Star Trek guy?

    Who's thinking this up?

And players will mindlessly repeat these ridiculous so-called missions so they can get 1000 sleigh bells and ornaments to get a new ship.

    The whole thing is sad.

I'm all for the Christmas Spirit and all, but this is Star Trek..not winter wonderland snowball fight mission world.

probably not because there is no gain to the captain who exploits this poorly thought out mechanic other than being able to wear a swim suit in the winter events.
Besides let them have their fun cos it will get fixed eventually! somewhere around the 2 year mark going by other fixes LOL

This is the same Star Trek that has Spock's Brain and Threshold, don't forget. It would suck if it couldn't blow off some steam and have fun once in a while. That's what Q's Winter Wonderland is for.

This bug presents quite the quandary for Cryptic. On the one hand, we have a harmless bug that doesn't break the game or economy but allows players to have harmless ridiculous fun. Fun that must be destroyed.

On the other, that requires fixing a tailor bug the KDF have been begging to be fixed for years, which they don't give a flying flip flop about because TRIBBLE those guys they're TRIBBLE faces. Hm. What to do...

When did a gorn in a Speedo ever hurt anybody? Me thinks somebody is envious of said beautiful Speedo and wants one for himself. I guess not everybody has the style and presence of these hot gorn model officers...

Just about every MMO has some sort of winter/summer/easter/haloween etc etc etc event
This one probably has a lot less than most and besides there are people that like this kind of break from the regular grind grind grind that MMOs have us all doing all year long.

WoW has a lot of them, there is some sort of event for just about everything in that game and you are more likely to see an event than not in a year.

I will go out on a limb here and say you would actually be in a minority compared to those that would like to see these sort of events in this game.
I do believe they have a decent balance of "non trek events" compared to the rest of the game like this, there is TWO big events and even then there is some sort of trek behind it (granted not much)
As i said it detracts from the rest of the every day grind, and really what would removing this event and the summer event actually achieve? 2 story missions IF you are lucky.

Any ways no one is stopping you from being a grinch and doing what you want to do in this game, be it story missions, pve queues etc etc but really others enjoy it so your point is moot.

How do you guys know this is a bug? Maybe they allow it as a tip of the hat to the nutjobs that like swimming in the winter like the people in The Coney Island Polar Bear Club.
Well unless you think they'd play favorites between players, it doesn't make a lick of sense.

Why have any non Star Trek events in a Star Trek game at all? It's just a thought. Why not have a cold weather event where they put very small holiday elements in it. Battle the Breen on a desolate ice planet and there's a warming station with hot warnog and Orion dancing girls to lift the marines' spirits?

I mean why make it preposterous and abandon the setting to the point where it becomes a slap-happy farce?

That's like asking "Why should any fantasy or sci-fi MMO WITH Earth not still have some Earth-derived events?"

If anything, at least Star Trek's Winter Wonderland gets the legitimate excuse of Q magic and his unhealthy interest in Earth events. He's perfectly capable of creating fantasy zones without technically breaking the "Un-Trek" element, which is more than most other fantasy/sci-fi settings can do, as they don't usually have some random god-level being come in and BS for fun (most all other god-level beings are usually enemy raid bosses).

In addition, do you really think the majority of the players left would even bother to join in on such an event if it was just as mundane as what we're currently dealing with? Grinding out the same damn zones without any sort of stupid fun element to brighten the grind some? The only way Cryptic would even be able to sell such an event is if they turned on 10X EXP multipliers to funnel people to play. And that's provided they even do such a thing with their current resistance to lowering EXP reqs or increasing EXP gains.

Sadly I missed the 'Shotgun' event! He needed that shotgun to be complete :(
(Will buy shotgun for 100 Zen...)
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.
