We've had nerfs on XP, EC, DIL, Skill points, marks, pets, and certain ship stats and abilities (i.e. Suliban Cell Ship). All the while we have had systems put in place that require a choice: literal years of grinding or purchasable completion. I'm not interested in theories on how close this game is to being P2W. That's all been beaten into the ground. Instead I'm wondering where the next nerf will be.
--> Crafting has already been nerfed. They introduced new upgrades only 3 months after the new shiny stuff was introduced. But I suppose they could conceivably cut the rewards from crafting and research.
-->DIL was nerfed into the ground (more than once) and I highly suspect it will happen again with Season 9.5 or so. Same with marks.
--> One of the only halfway decent things we have in this game is a plethora of DOff missions that award various crafting materials. I suspect those will be the next things to go. Either the frequency of the mission appearances will be cut, the rewards will be nerfed (lower likelihood of critical success) or both at once.
-->I can also see old weapons taking a direct hit on top of the already massive powercreep issues. If they cut the power of out favorite weapons (like rep gear) we will be forced to use the new shinys to succeed at PVE. The new settings don't leave us far from NEEDING MK XIV as it is. And you're playing in elite mode...well, you better have a T6 and FULL MK XIV Epics or you're a failure in the making.
--> Lastly, can see the cooldown timers (and STF timers) being increased exponentially against player advantage. In some cases this has already happened. An example would be a 1-hour lockout upon successful completion of queued instances rather than 30 minutes. In the more extreme, they might even make all queues into daily events. This is less likely than the former, but it isn't beyond the greed of PWE to try it. Hell, they might just put a 4-hour cooldown on them. I can totally see it.
This game is only considerate of whales, not ordinary free to players or lifers. I'm wondering what everyone else's expectations are for the not-too-distant future.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

Don't worry the next Nerf eh Patch is only 7 days away ...
Seems like every patch has something removed...I am morbidly curious now. I mean, there isn't much left aside from repeated actions against us. I ask honestly, "what's next?"

Fun in quotation marks. Yes, daily contraband for DIL to grind with. BZ to grind for DIL. Yeah, "fun" is right.

I was curious about this myself. Im fairly sure every patch since DRs launch as well as DR itself has nerfed at least one thing.
I expect Marks are going to get hit again right after the mark event. They seem to like nerfing the same thing twice in a row so as it got a nerf this week it will likely happen next week

Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
To be blunt, Borg Red Alerts are still bugged, queues dead, very few players around... where the remaining players are getting XP from out of the last remaining still-functional, still-rewarding, non-broken content is the least of the devs worries.
I remember a time in old Drozana when it was a weekend and the place was pumping. There must have been 20 or 30 players around just socializing, some RPing, everyone having a good time. Went out into sector space and the place was alive with lots of players.
Now they release new Club 47, it should have been packed. Instead, maybe 5 people, everything else an NPC. Why? Because nobody's bothering. Some are still treading water waiting for The Great Rivera Train Wreck to be cleared away. But people aren't going to wait forever Cryptic.

Never see a shortage of dil, Ec's are still best earned from selling to other players...its is a mmo after all, get involved in the economy and stop worrying what trash vendors for. Pets were flat out broke. Never had a shortage of marks, too many ways to get marks from playing the game...sometimes you actual have to play. The first patrol nerfs was a fix. The second was a nerf. I understand why they did it but it was not handled well.
--> Crafting has already been nerfed. They introduced new upgrades only 3 months after the new shiny stuff was introduced. But I suppose they could conceivably cut the rewards from crafting and research.
You do realize the upgrades were made through crafting right? I made a bunch of ec's, thanks for buying.
-->DIL was nerfed into the ground (more than once) and I highly suspect it will happen again with Season 9.5 or so. Same with marks.
To be honest I could not tell you what dil awards are for what now because I never have a shortage. I have about 750k waiting to be refined and the only time I actively go after dil is during the dil event once every 3 months. The rest is just from playing. How is that nerfed to the ground?? Your trouble with marks baffles me. 1000+ for all factions, 37k fm and I am not actively trying to get any other than delta and I have 3k delta marks. I might play 1 hr per day, maybe.
The new settings don't leave us far from NEEDING MK XIV as it is. And you're playing in elite mode...well, you better have a T6 and FULL MK XIV Epics or you're a failure in the making.
You can do advance with good mk xii and elites do not need epics or t6, have you ever run one? You do need some thoughtfulness in your build like not using dinky universal consoles in a tac console slot.

Not a whale but I can buy what ever I want from the lockboxes from the exchange. They keep the game up and running and list my future new toys on the exchange too? Thanks whales!

If you don't buy enough Zen, the rep boxes start taking marks away from you.
Tovan Khev...
All new Romulan characters will have 10 Tovan Khev's waiting for them.
I can see that becoming the next bug... you do a Romulan away mission and you have 4 Tovans and no ability to fix anything else. Tovan will beam down with no weapons, shields, or armor. You will be unable to do anything as a result.
It will then take Cryptic three weeks before it finally becomes a "Known Issue"... and a few more weeks after that it will be "fixed"... by only beaming down 3 of the 4 cannon fodder Tovans.
Once that happens, White Knights will then whine about how "Players feel entitled" to away teams, and how it's obviously a new "Difficulty Level", and how that makes it all more "challenging" and that players should just "get over it and play for all the fun it gives!"
I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the higher ups in Cryptic want to wipe their hands clean of STO. Its dated, it struggles of compete with the newer, shiny (a hint for those who know) sub games about to hit the market. Lets face facts: a ton of players would rather pay a reasonable sub for a decent, balanced and well maintained game than struggle through a F2P model that is choppy at best. Perhaps Cryptic is contractually bound, meaning they cant just walk away from it. A loophole would be if the game is no longer viable from a company standpoint then the bigwigs above them, possibly even PWE, can say Thats it. Pull the plug freeing Cryptic to focus on other prettier, younger games.
What other logical answer could there be for the tsunami of ludicrous nerfs, the seemingly purposeful disregard or disinterest in the well-reported bugs that still plague the game and the blasé attitude with which Cryptic responds to tickets, if they respond at all? (I am still waiting for a single response on MULTIPLE tickets I gave up in the end)
I have been a Star Trek fan since the 70s. I have seen every episode, every movie and read most books. I love the universe in which ST is set. When this game first came out I bought it of the shelf and dove in. back then we had two choices: Fed or Klink. Zachary Quinto played the EMH in the tutorial missions LONG before he was Spock in the JJ release. If you wanted to play a Romulan you had to make one as an Alien and RP it within the two factions. The poor Klingons were forced to gain xp via PVP missions dear God how thats changed.
So yes, I would be sad to see this game go. Just as I would be sad to watch my grandmother slowly die of a debilitating disease on her hospital bed, kept alive by feeding tubes and machines. In both cases Id think it would be better for everyone if they just pulled the plug.
STO has a built-in player base that will follow it regardless of who takes it over. If Cryptic lets go perhaps someone else will pick it up and give it some of the much needed attention it deserves

RnD and upgrade needs less RNG. Less lottery. Something has to change.

Did anyone say "Make Z-Store Ship purchases per-character instead of per-account" yet?
It's the next natural stage after killing off any desire to run Alts.

Sorry you're too late ... :O
They already nerfed the winter event last year by adding the 3 most annoying voices in the universe on a constant loop, 24/7.
