ya i thought that was pretty funny. with SA, they pretty solidly locked it in that the scryer is the last sci ship you will ever need, no others will have an intel COM and LT hybrid by the looks of it.
a couple other LONG overdue and note worthy changes in this patch too. and argala can be teamed now

Now the whole science ship system seems broken, unless they plan to add 2nd deflector to nearly all other ships and expose abilities to t6 intrepid/dauntless.
A ship being given access to: Sensor Analysis, Sub targeting, 2nd deflector, Expose abilities and Cloak (which is useless in pve but still addition...not a console) is a quite a lot of "gifts".
If only the scryer had the intrepid look lol...jokes aside this new christmass tree will be the top science ship in STO until something like that with access to 5 special abilities is been delivered.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad. I already have the Scryer, so it's nice to have a buff.....but I'll always feel dirty about running it now.
I didn't mind the look, since once I filled in the donut, it just looked like a natural evolution of the Luna. And while I didn't like that it came without Sensor Analysis, it was still very capable without it.
Now it's got both. And a secondary deflector slot besides. Unless you really need an LtComm Tac slot for some reason, you'll never need another science vessel.

The Sensor Analysis addition though is a wash. It offsets the very broken abilities that kick off from "Gather Intel" stacking. So at least Sensor Analysis works, unlike Gather Intel which is broken to hell and back.
The only thing the Scryer is missing is... I'm scared to say it...

Just depends how you wanna play eve though. Ya you will loose a ship here and there. Really though I found I only lost what I was willing to risk mostly.
Granted I never lost anything large and expensive which I can imagine would get annoying... My huricannes and such though I never took them raiding or anything. I have been out a long time myself... I haven't touched my old toon honestly. Started a new one when I got back and been running around in a destroyer... slotted a salvage unit today and went and grabbed some stuffs. lol Think over the next few days I'm going to build a dedicated salvage grabber with some tractors and go pilfer some stuff and run away... cause I feel like rolling that way for a bit. lol
Your right though Virus the PvP isn't the casual variety.... Still if you want to play it like we have been playing trek with 99% pve and a few pvp encounters that are worth sticking around for. Its a pretty good replacment. I bet most of the STO pve kids would find Hisec a lot more fun then STO.
EDIT... Just a note as well.. a Destroyer with basic skills takes 3 or 4 days to train train up to fly, running one PvE mission and cleaning up the wrecks with my salvager I easily hauled in enough to buy a destroyer and outfit it with some standards cheapo guns and stuff. Early in the game like that before you really go spending tons of stuff on implants and stuff deaths aren't all that expensive really.
