So far the Romulan story has been entertaining, in fact I really enjoy playing a Romulan. I am sad that you can't play as a Star Empire Captain, it would be fun to play out a villain. At the start I was surprised how you began, I wasn't expecting a farmer, wow! The story did seemed rushed at some points as it did seem to skip time frames to advance you a few years in some episodes. You had to accept allies and territory's that where not explained on how they came to be known, or permissions acquired so easily with your flotilla Commander. I'm sure I didn't miss any dialogue.
The Mind Game episode I believe it was called, was creepy! I am still on Nimbus 3 completing my Commander level missions, I lack the time for efficient leveling, I can afford 30 minutes to an hour per day for gaming right now, so I'm guessing it will be sometime next year when she is leveled. Due to my RL schedule.
I have never given Plasma weapons a chance before, but they seem to work well with this class, the Romulan ships are amazing and I'm beginning to enjoy it's powers far better then what my Fed uses. I have even purchased a Romulan costume pack and plan to eventually get all XIV gear for this toon. But this is far into the future since the time for getting there and the time for grinding, versus my time to play. But if all is still well and the game is here (so don't you dare cancel the game!) I may purchase the T6 Romulan battle cruiser. Right now the Romulan faction is a Luna pick!
If you have any hints you wish to share for builds, please share them. But no spoilers please, I wish to see the story unfold as I play.

Watch your power levels on Warbirds. They are generally lower than equivelent Fed and KDF ships. So anything that can help mitigate the lower overall power levels might help. It was a tradeoff for the cool Singularity powers.
hint ... do your duty officer missions to get xp so you won't have to take a year to level. You should get a level every day for a while if you log in to set those up twice a day + your 30 min play period.
some of the story expects you to just know things about the universe from the tv shows etc. The roms lost their planet, and are seeking a new one, but they still have explored the galaxy and know of other races etc.
You are the "hero". You come to D'tan in your own ship after having tried to save your colony (and saving some of it, a lot better than the zero survivors had you not been there) --- you brought people to his cause, and evidence against his enemy. He trusts you. You are one of the few with a ship who he trusts to do the jobs he needs done. So he overlooks your lack of formal training in exchange for having a captain he can trust to get things done.

If you want to play a villain you should Play Federation.
Pretty much all the Diplomacy they use in regular Missions is shot to kill without Mercy.
Compare this with the KDF that are more the good ones that try to save the Quadrant from the Undine with well maybe some Little marauding.
Yet i would agree the Republic is the more enjoyable bunch of missfits.
I still am disapointed that we can' crossfaction Team with other Republic Captains that joined the other Faction or that we are basicly shoehorned into being slaves to either FED or KDF i the end loosing all personal identity.
