<Edited the longer and sharper original post out as got a more encouraging and a really fair response from support>
Update: Even if support can't allegedly help me manually with an automated probation (by the system's nature) or tell me the exact time,
I am more optimistic now that it will eventually solve and that somebody knows the current status of my payment (in case some future manual intervention will be needed after the automated term officially ends or clearly should end) and actually read my support request.
I'll more patiently wait the further days for the probation to be lifted automatically
It's probably not as big deal as I thought it is - sorry for that. (not that anybody likes probation though, ofc)
Posting this as one can't simply delete posts, so I update instead.
Update: probation status seems to have cleared now. In this case (steam 1st buy) it took about a week since buying.
8 days and counting here,
very disappointed after submitting multiple tickets, going on live chat with support, and after all that (robotized template responses, not replying to anything concrete, even on the phone the people sound like an automated AI.
I bought some keys with steam wallet. through paypal, linked to my bank account, not even credit card ...
and now they're account bound, just what I didn't buy them for ...
this is shameful, shame shame shame, that you guys treat people this way, and apparently if i read the comments here, this has been going on for years
hi, i have same problem ....5 days and stuck in my acount , i buyed 5k zen...and all was bound... really i dont understand where is the security for tha player...i only see i was fu c k ing for 8 days... and tomorrow will be 6 days. i sent to cryptic my facture above my purchase...what more do you need cryptic for test my purchase of zen... that was my last donation to the game...thanks criptyc for make me angry and send me to play other game more serius.-.
------------ -i did the tickets....and chat live support too....what hell happen with this problem?? how many time i must wait for the checked timeof my acount.....
guess the game mods dont want there jobs for long.... any TRIBBLE owning a corner store would have better customer service.... i only use pre paid cards so no transaction occurs and i get flaged..... and the mods are to lazy to do there jobs and fix it
Okay so can someone please explain why when I have 20 dollars worth of zen through steam it might take ten days to process but my bank clears it within twenty hours???
Because of this crappy system still in place, I go to buy dil after putting zen on my account via Steam, and now I am forced to miss out on the Phoenix pack event. I don't have ANY instance of me withdrawing ANY purchase I have ever made. I intended to buy dil with my zen for the Phoenix packs, why would I cancel the purchase? Are the game masters going to make up my loss, because it was their fault.
Steam seems to have a lot of problems perhaps you all should just use the charge button on the STO page?
I've never had any problems or any significant wait. Zen shows up within 10 seconds.
My Zen shows up within 10 seconds from using the Steam wallet. Plus I won't use Arc, since I already have Steam. Why does PWE/Cryptic hate Steam users so much that they punish them?
I don't use ARC either I just use the charge button at the top of the sto website.
If by the charge button, you mean give a questionable company your bank account, then HELL NO! They have a bad habit of holding money that you rightfully paid so you can buy things in game and they follow it up with a "probationary period".
And you say just use the charge button? That is the daftest thing I heard. That's like saying money you spend on your steam wallet is no good, but only direct payments are. What difference does it make how they get their money so long as they DO get their money.

The issue, it would seem, is that the money goes through Steam to Arc/PWE. What I've heard is that Steam has been vunerable to fraud in the past. Whilst it's understandable that PWE want to protect their income, holding a player's Zen anything longer than 5 working days is unacceptable.

Why would anyone want to use Steam to play STO. There is absolute zero benefit playing STO via Steam. Steam is only a re-direct and a waste of memory.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? Personally I use Steam because it's what I've used for years (to play, not purchase Zen). All of my gaming friends are on my Steam list. I can share screenshots with them and use Steam Chat via the in game overlay to speak to people who aren't in game... Just because someone doesn't understand why somebody else may do something, doesn't mean it's wrong to do so. Everybody has their own way of doing things. Though this thread is not really for that discussion.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
this is absolutely ridiculous, ive have this TRIBBLE 5 times in 3 months and it just happened again and i even used a freaking GIFT CARD!!! this is so damn frustrating, especially because i want to buy the Key Ring bundles and those are only avalible during Events and sales... so now im going to miss out on them because of a damn computer program they cooked up... and when you talk to customer service to ask why this keeps happening. They give you that freaking link and say thats all they can do.. Come on! Please do something about this!!!
Hi everyone...I am new to online gaming like this...actually STO is my first game of this nature. I am not a strong gamer and can't afford to really subscribe monthly or lifetime so when I heard there was a FTP version I was so stoked as I have been a life long trek fan since the cradle literally. The more I play the game and learn the more I thought I loved it....but I don't have hours a day to farm dillithium into zen, I've never been able to open a lockbox, and I don't have even a bank account since I just got done with a chapter 7 discharging in december so when Someone said they would let me borrow a credit card so I could buy a T6 ship as a "test" purchase to see if subscribing or putting money into the game was better than just playing it I used steam wallet out of ignorance...never reading the forums....never knowing better....
And as soon as I bought my ship I got the red message of doom and my ticket complaint put me to this thread in a robo response.
Please be kind...I am about the noob of noobs to this gaming world. I just run the game through steam because it's what I run everything else through and the only thing I know so that's not why I am here posting this.
My question is how will I know when they unlock my account so I can go back to trading on the exchange because that's pretty much how I get by in the game and I feel like I am stuck sitting on my hands. I am such a small fish in this pond I feel like I got eaten by a shark...and this isn't making me feel comfortable subscribing and giving these people even more money....yes I got a ship but from their automated message I'll never be able to by one again or trade one or anything else so I feel kinda robbed. And after I cited anti harrassment laws that might be aplicable to this situation I am afraid they'll boot me from the game since they obviously have no problem robbing people under the guise of a false layer of security.
I've skimmed about half of this but if anyone can give me any real info about how this works in plain noob words would be greatly appreciated and sorry for asking but sometimes I need things in big letters with construction paper and crayon. Never said I was smart...just here for the love of franchise that apparently only loves to take my money but also falsly accuse me of taking from myself because I don't know better than to use the only thing I know and trust....again...help please?!? and Thank you whoever is kind enough to respond and have a great weekend all!

Lesson here? never use someone elses credit or debit cards not only for online purchases but in everyday life, sadly idk if there is anything that can be done since the card was not in your name , the fraud prevention feature worked as intended.

fair enough...but you've never bought something for someone else online? I have. I've used prepaid cards as well...it's not the craziest idea. But thank you...

^^^^^From what I've read in these posts so far, and I've only read about a third of the thread I've seen lifetime subscribers get flagged with their own cards so I am not sure if that's entirely accurate but thank you for letting me know that as well....got it....
...but I use prepaid cards alot at the moment as well as it is easier. From what I was reading those would do the same thing as well is what I was understanding...I was looking more for a simple comfirmation or explaination of such things as that. Or.... if I bought it through arc instead of steam or such if it would make a difference. From all the back and forth of the fourish out of thirteen pages of this thread that I've read so far.
Last names are the same, I've done it with every time before and never got flagged for anything and the credit card company knows I am authorized to use said card so there is no reason it should have gotten flagged as the purchase posted to the account without issue instantly and my zen was delivered the same and the the probation thing didn't show till after I made a purchase with my zen....so since there was no issue up to that point and still is no issue with the payment and I've explained this and gotten the same generic email response as everyone else I was wondering as I stated above. Obviously I won't use that card again but I have a feeling that using a different card, my name or prepaid or anything since it wouldn't be the same would trigger it again and I was trying to get a feel if there was a way around that.
I moved to Steam from Arc and even though I'm using the same PayPal account, I was put on probation. I have a long payment history so I really don't know what the problem is and all support could do was send me to this forum where I could join all the other people nattering on about it. lol

Wrong, I paid in my own named card just yesterday, have an account from 2010 with established purchase history, and got shafted.
I can only encourage people hit by this to complain to Valve, as they take it very seriously when a company intentionally discriminates against people for using their payment system.

Never said I was smart...just here for the love of franchise that apparently only loves to take my money but also falsly accuse me of taking from myself because I don't know better than to use the only thing I know and trust....again...help please?!? and Thank you whoever is kind enough to respond and have a great weekend all!

fair enough...but you've never bought something for someone else online? I have. I've used prepaid cards as well...it's not the craziest idea. But thank you...
either way if the card was not in your name then the feature worked as it was intended, ik you may not like it but if you had bought with your card you would not be have been tagged by the fraud prevention feature.

But thank you again just the same
Wrong, I paid in my own named card just yesterday, have an account from 2010 with established purchase history, and got shafted.
I can only encourage people hit by this to complain to Valve, as they take it very seriously when a company intentionally discriminates against people for using their payment system.
