It feels like they deliberately want players to slow down from simply reaching new "advanced" PvE endgame.
Rightly so if you look at the tools they give players to buy or play for in correlation of the new things to deal with there. For 9 out of 10 players:
- Being level 60 won't cope with it.
- Tier 6 ship wont cope with it.
- Intel Boff powers wont cope with it.
- Gear upgrades wont cope with it.
Under consideration that 9 out of 10 STO players WERE able to cope with the PvE endgame contend just fine two weeks ago and had a lot of fun there I would reduce the income of skill points even further.
WHAT???? Am i reading this roght- youd slow down progression yet further?? Man u need to open the curtains and see whats outside sometimes- 570 odd patrols to max one toon?? And your sayin no should be more?? **** me there are some idiots in the world honestly. The game has become "play one toon or go find a new game" what if i pvp and have 3 or even 4 toons?? Mil dil per toon and ALOT of ec to upgrade gear then all this levelling??? No wonder people are leaving in high numbers (hence mirror and lts sale )
I can barely stand this game anymore. My friend is starting to rack up spec points by just spending hours on Kobali, but I just can't do it. Repeating the same thing over and over has never been my style; I don't even do queues that often. I'm not a player they want, and they're doing a damn good job of making me feel unwelcome.
Call me crazy but I'm getting the impression that people don't want a long, painfully slow, suicide-inducingly boring grind? Well, I'm sure Cryptic has "metrics" (meaningless corporate speak makes me cringe) that suggest you all want to spend 12 months going from level 1 to level 60 and beyond so shut up and deal with it.
Their "metrics" are wrong. Most businesses use the following question to measure their success:
Would you recommend Star Trek Online to a friend? [ ] Yes [ X ] No

You are right and Im sorry if being misunderstood. I was sarcastic in my post because I never thought it possible how fast my patience with a game I love to play for 2,5 years could diminish within 2 weeks.
The problem what I tried to point out was that you are still better off while you walk the hard path than when you arrive at your destination realizing that it was all for nothing.

I've also seen reports posted here of doff missions promising far more XP than they actually pay out. I honestly don't get this sudden, but very toxic, obsession with begrudging your players their progress. So what if people don't take a year to complete DR? Whence the panic?!
You are correct, I was able to gather the equivalent of about 35 levels for my 8 toons out of the doff system the past two weeks.
I expect that one to be reduced as well to be in line with any form of active in game progression.

For me DR is the greatest disappointment I have ever experienced in a videogame. Sad part about it is that under many good intentions and awesome implementations there were simply some, the way I am able to grasp them, minor errors in judgement leading to the current situation. And this seems to be 9 out of 10 players have trouble coping with a game they were able too just fine a short time ago.
At the moment I am confident that a group of people coming up with brilliant maps like Bug Hunt or Borg Disconnected are able to fix this in the interest of the customer as well as the publisher.
Only time will prove me right or wrong, but Im afraid that in the current game industry time is something more valuable than all the skill points in the world.

so no fix on f-up whit xp. so when we "exploit" crytic then s*** can be fix in a day, and people can be banned.
but when cryptic exploit us, ah then, it is just a game, no consequences no nothing.

Duke Nukem Forever will probably never leave my top spot
I think the overall XP flow is slow, I am sure it has been adressed many times since DR launched.
But I am a casual player, been playing since closed beta, with the release of DR, I am quite confused on what I am supposed to do.
The vanilla verison of STO was good for one mission one level, but the DR in my opinion is to slow.
Each mission gives you about 10% fill on your XP bar, after that you do the daily then a few queues.. Then you have filled you bar to 40%. So what am I supposed to do to fill the rest of the XP bar?
Feels like I'm back in World of ******** during the vanilla times in Arathi Highlands.
Don't slow down the XP if you don't bring content to back it up, the forcing of grinding has never really worked for any MMO game.
Each mission gives you about 10% fill on your XP bar, after that you do the daily then a few queues..
This is what really rustles my jimmies. I purposely waited on completing the majority of the story missions on my newest alt (made at the beginning of the Bonus XP Weekend month) once I heard from Tribble that there would be gaps between missions, thinking that I could catch up with what was then the best source of XP for Normal, and not have gaps during DR, even if the grind from 50-60 was as long as that from 1-50.
But I have been thwarted in my plans. I have gone from "Spin the Wheel" through the end of the Dominion FE's, and have been doffing and doing mostly advanced queues (though mostly ground, so no real xp there because Cryptic hates ground), and yet I am only lvl 54.1 after all this time.
This is quite discouraging, to put it mildly. I know I have stopped my zen usage and acquisition until things become fun again, because I only pay for fun games.
Than how do you explain me seeing the same skill points values as the whole last week (after the October 23 patch)? Believe me after the latest nerfs I've been paying attention to skill points, expertise and ship mastery levels I gain a lot. What was severely reduced/nerfed in October 30 patch was expertise gain after hitting lvl 50, not skill points.
Or we're looking at an xp reduction that applies only to some players.
I've also seen reports posted here of doff missions promising far more XP than they actually pay out. I honestly don't get this sudden, but very toxic, obsession with begrudging your players their progress. So what if people don't take a year to complete DR? Whence the panic?!
Doff assignements promising more skill points is true, and nothing new. Again, it wasn't changed this October 30 patch. Curiously, they however reward more expertise than advertised.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

I had the same thing happen to me on my T5-U Fleet Daeinos. It has happened on ONLY that ship for me. Have you tried a different ship (just to see)? I may have switched ships briefly and saved that other ships tray, then switched back to the Daeinos and tried again. In addition, have you tried saving your tray both in space AND on ground? I stopped having my problems with the T5-U Daeinos, and I think saving it both on ground and in space is what fixed it for me. I remember it gave me some message when I saved it ground (something like it couldn't save some of the settings for space while on ground), but I don't remember any other problems with it after I did that. If you've already tried all these things then I apologize for wasting your time. It was VERY frustrating when it happened to me, so I feel you pain. Good luck!
I'm a lover not a fighter. But I'm also a fighter so don't get any ideas...
If anyone is able to generate evidence to nail down a scenario where this apparent bug can be reproduced, I'm willing to listen. But there was no intended alteration to XP gain as of the Oct 30th Patch to Holodeck. I'd appreciate it if folks would stop claiming otherwise, and instead try and remain informed on the topic.
Not direct evidence, but it seems messing with the Spec/XP code caused collateral damage on the doff system front: http://tinypic.com/m/id6eqt/3 < Bottom right has pre and post completion amounts. All doff assignments affected.
See the diff between the pre-completion and the post-completion amounts.
For those doubting there has been a drop in skill points & XP, I offer the following:
During the first week of DR (pre nerf), I got 3 to 5 levels per character over nine characters playing daily over that week. Since that first nerf (almost 2 weeks ago now?) I have gotten 1 level on one character out of nine, playing approximately the same amount. That includes DOFF and mission reruns.
Carriers went from 600/700 xp to 130/200 xp...go kill one carrier to confirm it , That's all the proof you need
Thats a 66% nerf of xp...no one cares about expertise

There are 10 levels from 50 to 60, requiring 758,000 skill points in total. At level 50 you already have 363,000, leaving 395,000 to get to 60.
Each Argala patrol yields on average 4300 XP, so even if you didn't do anything other than Argala patrols you would need a maximum of 92 patrols, not 777 (assuming now this was just exaggeration unless you mean maxing out the spec points too?).
The story content and other patrols reduce this considerably.
An Argala Patrol on normal takes me 3 min 11 sec in my Scim, but even in a more average DPS ship that's easily doable in 5 min. 5 min for about 70 patrols is under 6 hours levelling, doesn't seem that bad to me. I already have 3 toons at 60, one at 58 and 2 at 53 and I work full time.
I think back to when I started it took me months to get to 50, I remember having a party with friends in club 47 because I'd reached the dizzy heights of captain lol.
Playing another game is a good idea, we all need a break, the only thing I am concerned about now is how long it will take to get all the specialization maxed out, but I'm absolutely not going to rush that or even monitor it, just play the game and occasionally I'll level a specialization point.
Stick with it man, you're important to this community.
maybe he is counting the other 50 or 60 lvl ups he must get for the spec tree liek the rest of us are counting. dr didnt bring a lvl cap of 60 all it did was give us a new title at lvl 60 the spec tree is the new lvl cap. si we needed what 60 more lvlups once we reach lvl 50.
when looking at that number the skill points earned at present are enough to turn anybody who actually plays the game by the number off. the RP people probably wouldn't ever notice a thing though.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
Tell me this then, friend. If this is NOT true, how come I've got fleetmates that have had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM? All of them, mind you, ran Shutdown, but only went over to defeat that Jem'Hadar fleet in an effort to get to 60. I did too, but only to 53. That was NOT an exploit, we didn't bot or hack the game. We just ran a mission that we knew gave a lot of XP for taking out enemy vessels. And now, you don't get ANYTHING from that mission, in ways of extra XP.
All of them who ran it needed more than what was normal-in this case, from 53 to 54, a little over 50k for me-to get to the next level.
Bug? Possibly. But only affecting people who ran that mission the way that is now known? If it is, it's a little more than coincedence.
And now for those same people, FOUNDRY drops in ways of XP are seemingly nerfed too?
I'm not thinking that this is a bug. It's a punishment for our supposed 'exploit...' if you call running a mission that is KNOWN to drop a lot of XP for destroying enemy vessels to destroy enemy vessels an EXPLOIT.

The only ship it has not happened on for me is the Phantom. Benthan, Hazari, Apex, and D'Kyr all have the BOFF abilities dropped from the trays - the Rep abilities resorted - any clickies may or may not be there - each ship appears to have a separate corrupted save of what it feels the tray layout should be. And sometimes, it throws in an infobit from some piece of gear or trait/passive as a slotted ability on the bars.
I'm wondering if it's tied to an issue with two of the BOFFs I'm running - the Hierarchy Sci guy and a Talaxian Eng. Cause sometimes when I try to train them, I get various issues as well (and retraining things is probably 75% of the reason that I go to Ground). I've tried to put skill points into an ability only to be told that doing so would reduce the amount of skill in an ability that I do not have below it's allowed amount - have tried replacing AtS2 with EWP1 and the message is are you sure you want to replace AtS2 with AtS1...which means having to close the trainer and try again.
There's also the fun of slotting consumables on Ground and getting in to Space with them being unslotted. I've not paid attention at times and have sold my batteries, lol.
Meh/lol, could go on and on about all the various issues that have caused me not to want to play as much...but that's all sorts of other threads.
The thing I'm trying to press home about the Expertise stuff in this thread is that many of us don't even think twice about Expertise, because we've gained so much. But we gained that at a certain rate - with it being ~33% or less, for new players and alts...will it actually matter for them or not? That there were no notes about it...the way they kind of swept under the rug the other XP change, fudging an answer - and - here we have another nerf to gains that is about the same amount as the other was...just rubs me the wrong way (on top of everything else...meh, just rubs me the wrong way)...
So now the painful grind of patrols in delta has been pretty much removed as well.
I am trying really hard to refrain from an I quit post here.... having said that I'm off to play something else until the next patch... if things aren't better by then I think it may be time to just park the game for an extended hiatus.
You would think with the all the vitriol they have had tossed there way the last week, they would have taken at least a few minor steps to smooth things out. Instead they make the game even more or a grind. I don't get it at all.
Come on! come to this side and just post I quit....Cryptic will shred it...they dont care anymore

I rest my case.
Rest well, my friend. If you re-read the thread you will find I was saying xp was nerfed.
At lvl 60 you will now recieve 1 XP every 20 hours free, you will also be able to buy 999,999,999,999 XP for 999,999,999,999Z!
(offer valid for one second, no garuntees, may be bugged, and may possibly delete all ship content bank and 1/2 your charactors)
But Wait!! there's more!!!!! if you buy in the next 0.2 seconds! we will DOUBLE your XP FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
(brought to you by no one, we are not responsible for spoiled Kanar, loss of Saurian Brandy, missing ship supplies, all SFX are not beamouts from your cargo bay, and all Talaxian Shorts Leg spots are to be hunted down and burnt off the legs of all who ware them as well as all tails on all aliens)
I do think more XP needs to be given from missions and it would be nice if NPCs also gave a little more, Maybe 3k per patrol and 5k for the patrol mission set with 10k per story mission with Kobali missions giving 2k? Then you could give 50% for replay... I don't know about NPCs...
But this would certainly make it feel like each mission was helping us to progress again and if people can reach max level without having to grind then they wont go seeking out power levelling areas, they'll just move on to the next alt to level up.
ya for real, the vaadwaur give like NOTHING, would LOVE to see more love for ground fighting on Kabali Prime, some people are sick of space for everything

Come on! come to this side and just post I quit....Cryptic will shred it...they dont care anymore
Here is another report of the same bug:
DOFF Assignment XP less than advertised
But this would certainly make it feel like each mission was helping us to progress again and if people can reach max level without having to grind then they wont go seeking out power levelling areas, they'll just move on to the next alt to level up.
