Of course not, the Kobali don't kill people, they just repurpose people who are already dead.

Now, i WOULD question the integrity of a Kobali Undertaker tough XD

It's really more like letting someone who's into necrophilia to be a doctor. As long as their patients don't die, there's nothing to worry about. The only real need for concern is that they might "accidentally" let their patients die. :P

I never under stood the kobali back story.

Supervisor: did you fine a cure to our sterility?

Researcher: no. But we can bring dead bodies to life as Kobali.

Supervisor: ??... what!! You cured death, but we can't make babies.

    Researcher: that is correct.

Supervisor: OK. Lets go with that.

Medical expertise aside... they've demonstrated a lack of experience and competence, with technology and combat. I would pose that putting them out of the main combat areas in a theatre of operations is also a wise choice.

I see it as more of everyone under their care suddenly having a donor card. When you fill out an organ donor card and carry it with you, do you trust the EMT that's in charge of saving your life in an accident? Or do you worry that he'll find your wallet and decide to "help you along" because he knows of a sick 9 year old girl back at the hospital that needs a new liver? At the end of the day you're still putting your life in someone else's hands. The only productive worry you should logically have is their competency, because if you have an incompetent medic, you're dead either way.

This is exactly why this people doesn't make sense. A species that would naturally be sterile couldn't develop to the point they did. And if something happened to make them sterile we are to believe they developed means to *resurrect dead of ANY species* and "genetically/magically transform" them into sterile Kobali within a single generation. And they don't try to develop other means of procreation, because the necromancing thing works out so well... or something.

I had the idea that the Ferengi could sell their corpses. ;) Hey, they already believe in monetizing their dead bodies--the only difference would be selling to a single buyer. Yes, it comes with risk but so does any investment. Kobali pay up front, Ferengi get the money and invest it into their business or financial assets while they live, and get a nice big nest egg to pass down to the kids and brag to the Grand Exchequer about. And the Kobali win too except the new model is quite a bit shorter. ;) Still creepy but at least then you'd have full consent on both sides and a written legal contract governing what will and will not be done and when.

The really insane part is I can see what kind of financial infrastructure would be in place on both sides to allow it, the premium services, how the valuation could be done, etc. Totally the reason I got my MBA. ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Never on these forums have I seen such a fundamental lack of anything remotely resembling Federation ideals than in these Kobali hate threads.

The Kobali do one single solitary thing that could be considered distasteful at best, but are otherwise a wholly benevolent species. Hating on them for that one thing is no different than hating Muslims and crying about oppression of women because of certain styles they wear. It's ignorant, closed-minded, and backwards. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Jexsamx--What bothers me about the current way the Kobali do things is the fact that they do not have informed consent beforehand as to the potential donor, to know what is going to be done and the potential risks entailed. As for me I am not hating on them...I have a problem with their doing what they are doing without a legal framework in place to govern it. Fix that problem and I won't be so upset. If someone wanted to enter into a contractual agreement after having learned about the risks and benefits of the investment (since I would expect many such arrangements to be financially driven), then I would not be bothered, any more than I am when someone arranges a whole-body donation IRL to science.

You should play the entire Kobali story arc. They don't only "resurrect" people, but they also let die others, so they have a neverending supply. Sure, they don't kill them, they just wait until they die, while they could help them.

Also, I always thought the Kobali story was dumb. They are able to "resurrect" dead bodies, and transform them as Kobali, but unable to solve their sterility ? Doesn't make a lot of sense. With such an advanced genetic and medical science, they could force reproduction, by melding 2 half of DNA into a new one, just like reproduction works. A bit similar to cloning, except the offspring is not a copy, but an individual. But no, that's a lot more easier the other way.

I don't hate them. As I said, I don't understand the back story. As I undestand trek science, cloning tek is not that hard. Especially, one would think, for a species that can raise the dead and mutate it in to another species. I guess it is the lack of thought that went into the Kobali story that is my problem.

I thought this same thing when i got to the last DR episode.

It's not their capabilities that i'm worried about, its their ethics. We've already found out once that they were keeping secrets from us. As a player we can only really count that one...the audience is shown that a spare Harry Kim is also in stasis but that isnt revealed to your player character so technically that secret doesnt count as #2. But now they've promised that they will only ask before using dead bodies for reanimation? yaaaahhhhh somehow i dont feel reassured by that promise. Maybe if they had been 100% honest with the people who are trying to be their friends/allies then i could trust them.
