I really don't see why DR would be the end-of-play reason for people. DR has barely been out a week. There will be early-adopter issues, as with any other product launch or major update. But the Devs have been working pretty hard to fix most of them, quickly.

Cryptic also said since day 1 that they will monitor DR and re-balance where needed. Hence tomorrow's patch, which will fix some of the initial scaling problems in PvE.

    1) Grind: It's the never ending grind that just keeps getting worse. Before DR it was bad. Then they added the R&D and it got worse. Then they added DR where you can't even make levels on the expanded quests, but now have to grind between quests just to get to the next level to do 2 quests and grind some more. Then to actually say that certain types of grinding are exploits, when you make the grind necessary is just icing on the cake.

    2) Bugs: There hasn't been an expansion in an MMO that has been bug free, we can all accept that. However, when a) They close down tribble to everyone but Golds limiting the amount of feedback then b) limit that group even more to a certain group of handchoses "small focus groups" so that they can cherry pick their feedback and then c) ignore the feedback they do get from their so called test server so that when the expansion goes live the bugs and issues that existed a month ago on Tribble and were noticed still go live.

    3) Time Gates: Time gating is an MMO standard, but you can take it too far, and in many peoples minds Cryptic has done just that. Time Gate Dilithium, Time Gate Reputation, Time Gate Crafting, Time Gate Equipment Upgrades, Time Gate Time Gate Time Gate. Then only thing that isn't time gated is buying Zen with cash... go figure. Every single other thing in this game is time gated.

That's just SOME of the reasons why people have issues.

Ohhh, come on. The game isn't dead, just the fun is.

Fun? We won't be having any of that... That's hard to have. Grind, grind, grind, to buy stuff for addition grinds and time gates.

It's so bad the time gates have time gates. How to have fun? Hmmmm... Clever...
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.

    Yes the game is dead...

    Just like I am...

I am dead... I am writing this from the great beyond... BTW there's bacon here.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

The game is still alive, and it'll continue to draw in new players. Tje game is less fun though at endgame, so those news plays, and some old players, will just leave quicker.

The fun died. The devs have no clue how the game actually plays, which would explain all these changes.

The devs that do play may get 10.000 free zen every month, so they have no idea just how tedious and boring the game has become for anyone who doesnt spend 100$ a month on it.

Dead? STO is likely getting more people playing now than it has in months. That does not sound dead to me.

From a new player perspective the game feels far from dead and as someone else quoted, we all have different tastes and expectations and the devs want to cater for as many playstyles as possible, for instance, I only want to play space battles but I have to endure the fps element to progress.
I do feal however the game code is very similar to swtor if not the same and is very hard for new players like myself to get more acquainted with the game and players because of the restrictions so if you're stuck or lost then there is nobody at all to help you because you cannot ask for help, I have yet to have a reply to anything I have said in local chatter and have probably sent tickets in, that really didn't need to be sent in :(
What are the communication restrictions for ? to stop RMT ? well that doesn't work because all I see is toons advertising for different things so the only people getting hurt there is us, the new players.
I play games to be competitive and to commune with fellow gamers and to not be able to talk to other players, makes it very antisocial for the first part.
I am dreding to see what the end game stuff entitles from what I have read on these forums lol

Speaking for myself only, up until the launch of the new season i was basically at end game. finally after 3 years and with only a minimal amount of daily grinding i could actually play and have fun. the ratio being about 50/50 (50%grinding and 50% playing). like with most other MMO's the grinding was necessary in order to maintain the equipment i needed to go do missions and to play PVE and PVP.

Shortly before the patch with the intro of the upgrade system and the crafting system that grind immediately became 20/80 (20%play and 80% grind). now i was still able to swallow this because there was once again an end game coming, yes the dill hole got bigger but once my grinding to get back to the top of the hill was over i could let my everyday game play fill that hole after i hit lvl60.

But now i find out that you are taking the lvl60 dillithium away.... and why. not because it wasnt a great idea, not because it wouldn't lvl the game play for all players at end game..... because someone found a way to exploit it......

Well that's were im gonna say Stop.... Hold up...... One Moment Please...... instead of punishing the loyal players who still "actually want to play" and who are trying desperately to find a way to still enjoy this game, why are you not punishing the people who are exploiting your system. ban them, kick them, steal all of there worldly goods.......

But please stop punishing your player base! Those of us who are desperately trying to find a reason to keep playing.

*snickers* People complaining about the grind in STO need to go play other mmos especially other PWI titles... there's plenty more to come. STO isn't nearly as bad as many and you can all the cash shop toys you want for FREE if you really want them... Not many MMO of any genre allow that... and yall are crying because they reduced the dilithium rewards so it takes you longer to get your cash shop **** for FREE lmfao

Conclusion : People who complain about the flew, need to inject themselves with Ebola ... sorry but it's a game ... I know it's hard to believe, but it's supposed to be fun ...
=> "but there is something worse" - Arguments don't work here ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.

Some people love the endgame, others hate it.

Some love PvP, others will never participate in it.

Some love focusing on one character, others love making alts.

Some are here for the costume creator, Some enjoy creating a fan fiction and living out the story they write around their character.

Some are here for the role-play, others love crafting.

Some even love the grinding playstyle, and other just love collecting ships.

Agreed. Hence the "RPG" part of MMORPG. Yes, it's true that STO maybe is a little light on the RPG part, but I don't think it's particularly lacking.

And then there's the "MMO" part. This game is indeed a grind, and like many MMOs it's designed to be that way. But Cryptic knows that. Case in point, they ran a double-XP event for quite some time before DR came out, with the explicit message of 'get all your toons ready quickly!'

There's a valid point to be made about the new DR story missions not generating enough XP to push you up to next level. But I think that might also be by design. Remember how everyone was concerned about how long it would take to achieve ship mastery? I'd expect the mission-to-level-up gap was created with the intent of giving players some time to run PvEs and get their ships leveled in between story missions. I know I was able to power through some of the first mastery levels pretty quickly between story missions, which really helped in the harder tasks that come up at the end of the DR story.

Important thing to remember is that the DOOM faction on the forums (on any MMO's forums, for that matter) are a small & vocal minority. They don't represent the average player, but due to the Fox-News echo-chamber effect, the forums end up thinking that they represent The Truth!

    The game's fine.

People are moving out of and away from the small fleets as they need the better fleet gear.
So for many it will look like no one is there when people are just really moving around.
They also want to take adavantage of the team play in larger fleets.
The new Q dificulties requires good team play and small fleets pugging doesn't look good anymore.
Not only that with DIL getting harder to get it will take the majority of the smaller fleet years to finish.

You do not need to be in a high level fleet to get better fleet gear except for ships. As long as you have the correct provisions available, a fleet map invitation to higher level fleet will allow you to purchase the better fleet gear using your own stores from the other fleet's vendors. The only time you need to leave your own fleet for "better gear" is for purchases of fleet ships, since a the fleet shipyard will only sell to fleet members with the appropriate fleet roles. This is why we have service channels like NoP Public Service and PA:PSTS to facilitate fleet map and freighter/cell ship invitation matchmaking (although temporary fleet reassignment services for shipyard access may also be available in these channels).
