Need a Noob Barrier in PVE ques.

desade1desade1 Member Posts: 97 Arc User
I didn't mind carrying the occassional noob in Elite STFs when you could carry noobs. Now I can't just solo even the entry level Delta STF.

We absolutely need a noob barrier. Just a little achievement requirement that someone has scored at least 1,000,000 damage or 2,000,000 healing, or even 2,000,000 combined dam and healing in an STF once in their noob lives.

Or they could add ways to get Delta Marks some other way, because pugging is no longer viable in this game.

    *deep breath*

Blah blah blah promotes elitism blah blah blah how are new players going to learn blah blah blah system could be abused.

    *deeper breath*

Blah blah blah called elite for a reason blah blah blah new players should stick to normal queues blah blah blah they don't contribute to the team.

    *choking for breath*

Blah blah blah someone's upset they lost the optional blah blah blah the tears are flowing blah blah blah munches popcorn.

Phew! I think that's all the usual for, against and trolling arguments. I'm sure someone else will be along to think of more.

"Are they failing because they are new, or are they failing because they are trolling?"
One question that hit my mind, another one is:
"Are they in advanced because normal que is too empty?"

    ^ this.

I will start caring about what elitists want when esports actually takes notice of MMOs at a high level. then Ill start caring about the "noobs".

    @op

Also i do want to point out that everyone starts somewhere and just because you can do it doesn't mean everyone can.

    TRIBBLE.

Dood, some who can do 4+ mil in damage can't do advanced anymore. I'm neither new or a troll, and the old elites were just a tad on the easy side after doing them hundreds of time but I don't think the difficulty shouldn't have multiplied by a factor of 5 or more and called advanced.

I already knew I wasn't equipped for the new elites but now the advanced are much harder than the old elites were. WTF

DR has broken the ability to pug on elite.

They have also broken the ability to pug on advanced since, last I saw, the ‘fail an objective/fail the mission’ thing applies to advanced as well.

But what you’re missing on is the blaringly obvious here. First, NEWBS (aka newbies/new or inexperienced players) will make mistakes. We were all newbs at one time and we all make errors. The difference is we learn from those errors, take advice from more experienced players and try to actively be better.

Noobs don’t actually exist. Players that don’t want to learn or purposefully throw an STF, causing everyone to fail, as a means to cause grief, are usually not inexperienced players but just buttnuggets who get a kick out of ruining the fun for others. Which brings me back to my original point: Cryptic has known that griefers are a problem in STO just as they are in many MMORPGS. The tools they thought were fun in an effort to make elite “even harder” to provide challenge to players has actually been an early Christmas gift to the griefers, making the ability to pug effectively broken and actively destroying one of the most social aspects of the game.

No one trusts a pug any more on STFs. This means if you are not in a fleet and your friends are not on, you’re screwed. You might get lucky and get picked up by a pug. You might even get luckier and actually complete the pug with a good group, but the chances of both happening are significantly diminished.

So although I disagree with the OP’s statement of a “noob barrier” I have to say that Cryptic has created this issue and indeed needs to find a solution.

There won't BE a solution until the buttnuggets no longer exist. On both sides of the equation.

Since that's an impossibility, it will always be there. *shrug* It's the nature of the beast.

Is that neither Advanced nor Elite is the place where somebody should be learning the basics.

Somebody feels they're ready to hit up Normal...they're at that level with their ability/gearing and so they read up on the Normal mission from those that have run it...then they tackle it.

Somebody that feels they've moved beyond that and are ready to hit up Advanced...they're at that level with their ability/gearing and so they read up on the Advanced mission from those that have run it...then they tackle it.

Somebody that feels that they've moved beyond and are ready to hit up Elite...they're at that level with their ability/gearing and so they read up on the Elite mission from those that have run it...then they tackle it.

Folks that just show up without a thought aren't noobs/newbs/nubs...they're trolls.

I'm not going to hit up something that I know I'm not ready for...don't see the reason to make excuses for those that think it's okay for them to wander in anywhere and TRIBBLE over the other four folks on the team.

    On this I agree 100%

However, by the time they actually reach the point in the game where they can even queue for these STFs they should know much more than the basics, ya? One would hope...

Problem is people a fair bit of people are spoiled or simply refuse to learn, before DR I could tell you easily 95% or more of the pugs I'm on don't communicate at all, even when you try to tell them do this or don't do that they flat out ignore you.

Now maybe some or many were trolls, well if they want to be losers and cost themselves along with the group marks or other rewards well then they're little munchkin losers who wont accomplish anything in life.

All I can see is the evidence put in front of me and I see a lot of people don't know what they're doing...taking useless skills or skill that are better paired with other specific skill and don't take those other skills.

Skill cap is huge, my second to last Borg Disconnected we down all 3 dreads with a 4 man group...my last BD we couldn't even down 2 with a group of 5 before the time was up.

If all of it's trolls then this is bar none thee worst game I've ever played as I've never played a mmo where you could so constantly get fools who will try to ruin a whole instance just for fun...in fact I never really see it.

Is it possible, yes...do I believe it's the case, I question if it is. This game just has so many useless abilities and even good abilities when used incorrectly they just plain suck.

OP, The optional really isn't even worth that much... I'm starting to not even care. I was in a pug that missed the optional the other day and just rolled eyes. How can it even bother you if you are so elite? You must have tons of marks and bnps...

I just realized I had 10k omega marks and ~400 bnps.... I guess I will start turning them in for DL... is that what you all do?

The leveling process doesnt teach your average player what they need to know about how to work in an STF. Some players just adapt their knowledge from other games and it doesnt even have to be a space mmo for them to be able to adapt. If you've ever been in any other game prior to STO then if you've ever dont a fight where you had to keep a mob away from a certain place or thing otherwise something bad would happen then you know that the probes in Khitomer and Infected need to be kept away from the nanites/gate.

    BUT

That is only part of the problem. There are lots of people out there that just dont care. They dont care about their build, they dont care about teamwork, they dont care about the objectives, they dont care about you, they only care about themselves and what they can get for themselves for as little effort as possible. There is hope for people willing to learn, but there is no hope for leeches. And like a real leech i would like to do nothing more then stick them with a hot poker or put a cigarette out in their face.

We can sit and argue teaching noobs till we are blue in the face. It is a touchy subject because everybody is different. We will all continue to have a different view.

Cryptic did add a video with voice over on several missions but yet nobody follows the instructions. A good example is Borg Disconnected. Why is the entire team going to one section? Seriously? It's like they spam the escape button once the video comes up...

It matters now. Fail the optional and the mission fails. They are required now.

Some folks do not get that folks do get that it's just a game, so yes - it can be considered a waste of time. However, it is entertainment - people are choosing to "waste" their time on a form of entertainment of their choice. Somebody coming along and wasting the time of the other four folks in the group cannot excuse their behavior by calling it a waste of time anyway...it's not up to that person to decide how those folks waste their time. That's why it goes back, imho, more to a case of the folks being trolls than anything else.

Instead of calling for a barrier to new players, why not just treat this like the GAME that it is instead of the LIFE'S PURSUIT that it is not, and actually reach out to the newcomers. Invite them into your fleet. Offer to help them shed their newbie status?

Is it really going to hurt? After all, you were once a noob, too.

This game needs more things to bring people TOGETHER, not more things to drive them APART!

When I was a noob, know what I did? I read up on the game. I flew around testing things by myself. If I had questions, I asked them. There were all sorts of people that were willing to help if you asked...

...I did not show up in an STF as a complete failure and expect somebody to come teach me everything.

Stop making excuses for people. There are an insane amount of resources available to people...if they do not want to avail themselves of any of them...they are what they are.

What a great idea! We can add an epeen barrier to the forums at the same time! To prevent people like this from posting before they can pass a simple IQ test.

We absolutely need an epeen barrier. Not a very big one, either. Most of the people who wave around their epeen in public like this usually come up waay short of the mark, if you know what I mean. Because most of the people who are this in love with themselves must be stopped from bothering the normal people around here.

we were all noob once, the only way to learn is by doing, & how would you have felt if you knew yow were excluded from pve`s because you were new.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Actually it isnt, but i'm sure that phrase looks good on a T-Shirt or a motivational poster...
how would you have felt if you knew yow were excluded from pve`s because you were new.

It depends...am i showing up completely and 100% unprepared for the instance?

Or did i do everything i could before going into an instance to make sure i was as prepared as possible? ie get the best gear i could, optimized my build as much as i could, learning my class the best that i could and maybe even learning the basic fight mechanics before going in.

People can complain about what queue people should and shouldn't be joining till they are blue in the face, until the queue tells them what queue the can join the system is just broken. I can queue for elite in literally no gear and ruin it for my team before skill or knowledge is even a factor, and there isn't anything people can do about it, that is just broken beyond belief. At least if people met some sort of requirements the team might have a chance some of the time, right now it 100% RNG in favor of failure.

If it really means that much to you then don't pug. This is the risk you take when you pug.

Stick to your friends list, or your fleet mates, it's more enjoyable to boot.

You're aware STO is a GAME, right? Not a lifestyle choice?

You're aware most of these threads are someone throwing a hissy fit because they missed the Optional and decided it was someone else's fault instead of their own?

My opinion about people who post threads like this and my sig banner are not really connected. The OP wasn't asking for people to be competent. He wants a way to keep people he deems to be unworthy out of his game. pwe/cryptic heard him and answered. It's called Elite Mode. If his epeen is big enough, he can go play there and be free of those he thinks are lower caste.

I strongly recommend you check to make sure your own posts do not imply or infer hypocritical opinions before you go pointing at mine.

Actually i think the answer is premade elite mode. Since i'm guessing there is still no gate stopping unskilled/undergeared (or even troll) players from getting into a pug elite.
