I was lucky enough to obtain a kazon heavy raider through a lockbox requisition and i read that all lockbox, lobi, and lifetime ships would be eligible for upgrade free of charge but when i go to the ship req station it says i must purchase a token before upgrading it, even though it was obtained from a lockbox. plz help
I just snapped one up for 500k! The next after that was 1mil... I got lucky I guess, for now. By next week they might be selling for 250k or less... who knows? lol

That is accurate. You do need to purchase an Upgrade since the Kazon Raider is the substitute for the Mirror Universe ships in the Delta Expedition Lock Box... it's much more common than the Grand Prize of a Benthan Assault Cruiser, which is also T6-11. It's sort of a bonus that you can Upgrade the Kazon Raider to T5-U, though it does still cost Zen to do so, since at present none of the Mirror Universe ships have that option.
If it's a Fed captain, you might compare the Aquarius options as well, since that is now a Raider. It's a bit more nimble and a bit more flexible than the Kazon Raider, has a Fleet T5-10 that turns into a T5-U11, and trades less hull for more shields. If you have to pay for the Upgrade, you might as well pay for the one that suits your fancy a bit more.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
Just wondering if anyone has upgraded one to t5u and found it worthwhile. I am a new federation captain and love my patrol escort but I need a ship that I can upgrade to t5u.
With a better turn rate but lower crew and shield modifier, one less rear weapon but gains the raider flanking 25% bonus so there is a trade off. At t5u I'd pick up an engineer console so I would end up with +1 science console, +5k hull and the Raider Starship Ability Package over my current escort.
Any helpful opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

I have it upgraded on my Fed and it does great. The mastery traits are a solid bonus to it, and it's a lot of fun to fly. It's like a wannabe BoP minus the cloak (hence why I have it on my Fed). Awesome turn rate and high speeds are its strengths, and it needs to be flown as such imo.
edit- It must be stated that you absolutely cannot fly this thing like an escort. Hit and run tactics on the flank of vulnerable targets... and always keep moving.

Thank you for the input, I see they are at 400k on the exchange atm and probably going lower so I'll most likely buy one to test it.
I currently use cannons on my escort, would you suggest I switch to beam arrays for "hit and run" mobility?

Nah, the turn rate is so high that cannons are preferable imo, and you want to keep attacks focused on flanks for +25% dmg. With a high enough turn rate, you can effectively stay on their flanks while going full speed to keep def bonus up. If you're good enough to time your cannon cycles, you can theoretically unleash a volley, do 360/wide turns to keep distance, fire again, repeat... all the while at full throttle.
I've loaded all cannons as well, as the turn rate is very good.
I've tested the maneuverability, but haven't got round to testing it in battle, but will do first thing tomorrow on an MU run. I shall report my findings here
The prices for these have been all over the place. I have 2 spares and was consistently looking at the exchange prices for them. One day I saw averages of ~3 mil, the next day they were as low as 300k.

Go figure.
I noted today there were 13 on the market this morning that were ranging between 420 and 450. I only really have 400 to spare atm so I waited. Checked again this afternoon and still 13 on the market but they were all at 500k. Pretty sure someone just bought em and marked em up.

No prob. Don't forget, however, that you will still need a ship upgrade token after to get it to T-5U. Those are currently sitting at 9 mil. each, or 700 zen (2000z for a 4 pack).

Why? It's a lot more common than the grand prize ship. Last I heard they were less than 3 mill.

That is what convinced me to just unbox mine.
Pretty good little ship, even at T5. Looks ridiculous with the borg set.
Got mine for 400k EC on the first day of "Delta Rising". Best 400k I've ever spent in STO.

I got two for a mill each.
