Well after unplugging my USB Afterglow headset and plugging in my headset the has both usb and analog plugs the game didn't crash and I got thru the initial mission. I don't remember who posted about the USB headsets but THANK YOU!!!!!
Still annoying that I can't use my Afterglow USB headset.
Just tell your computer to use speakers, then plug your headset back in. It will reroute speaker volume through your headset using your audio card or onboard audio, whichever you have or is default. Then you should be able to use them normally. I did this with my SkullCandy USB headset as recommended and they work fine.
