ship appearance glitch

for quite some time now, every time i try to customize the look of any of my ships (changing the colors of the exterior designs), the colors dont change. they simply stay a black color. i thought it was just a simple glitch and was eventually going to be fixed, but it hasnt yet...
is there something i can do to fix this on my own?

please forgive me if this has been answered or this thread is in the wrong place. please feel free to move it, or point me in the right direction as to how i can resolve this issue

Try leaving the ship tailor, then going back in and hitting the Randomize button. This should force the colours to actually change, then allow you to select different ones properly.

It messes up whatever choices you have already made with your ship, but to work around that just write down those choices somewhere first and redo them after you randomize.

This is a longstanding bug that I've dealt with lots of times when fiddling with ship colours.

I've found that hitting the 'randomize' option will allow you to change the pattern colors.
