The Scimitar is one ship that I can honestly say has no real weakness.
I personally fly a Tactical Scimitar with an Engineer. I know Tac is the 'Optimal' DPS, but I find that having Engineering skills like Miracle Worker along with the Vadlore Console and Singularity Powers makes the ship just about unkillable.
You still get all the massive DPS, but you can hang in there all day. Like anything, not everyone will get the same results, but for me the Scimitar is hands down the best ship in the game and I don't expect that to change once T6 comes out.
Scimitar is the ultimate ship in STO. It was worth every penny (I just bought the one, not all 3.)
Dude awesome that u like it and enjoy it ... but anyone else out ther with a few points?
Well ... if negative points are welcome then I have some ... :
There are a few ships that I won't fly, and one of them is the Scimi .
Just like the JHAS stood out like a sore thumb in PVP when it was introduced, the Scimitar stood out in PVE ... .
According to the movie this ship was based on, it was supposed to be a "super ship" but in ways that Cryptic could not make it (27 torpedo banks, etc) , so they made it OP in other ways .
I get it that it appeals to the folks who want the best of the best ... , but Cryptic didn't do "first best" and then "second best" and so on ... , they just threw in the JHAS or the Scimi and call it a day .
And when you have ships that nothing in game comes close to, then you are essentially herding the players in one direction .
And I refuse to be herded when I can help it .
Heck, sometimes I even fly a low DPS ship in protest .;)
ive been taking a look at star citizen something tells me sto has got its days numbered
star citizen does look interesting and i used to play freelancer on private server with friends. but that was only because i had no place to play as a Klingon until this game. so here ill stay until the Empire is no more.
then maybe ill look for another game. or sit out another decade waiting for a good game to show up.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
Is it just me or do i see a heck load of SCIMITARS over the last few days!! it sure feels like those big tigers entering mid WW2. great ship loads of fun ... one the the few cryptic got right! feels so over engineered with its squishy hull and 5 tac consoles just like the tiger tanks of ww2 ;-) BIG guns average life span lots of zen ;-)
As far as scim go . i love them they explode in an awesome fashion. Really I am not PvP pro and die more than i kill. those small fast ships pick me to pieces and not much i can do about it unless i get lucky. but those big lumbering Scims since they day they were released i have been blowing them up and nothing has changed to date. i have no fears when one pops up in PvP unless i am unlucky enough to have it on my team.

For me it wasn't about having the best of the best, where the Scimitar. It was infact the best of a bad lot, it could have been the same for others too. I have hangar based ship on all my characteras and so wanted one on my RR characters. I have never really been any good with escort like ships so that rules out the Ar'Kif, same reason I didn't get the HEC on my Feds. That left only the Scimitar.
I wonder how many people flyimg the Scimitar would be in the zen D'Deridex if it had a hangar? If it had I wouldn't have given the Scimitar a second look and would have gotten that instead.
excel is t34? good, the very versatile russian t34 which spawned the successful t90 tank not long after. t34 was rated one of the best tanks of the entire conflict during the time, noted for having everything a medium tank needs. now the russians are bringing out Armata in 16' to replace the t90's, i wonder what that would be compared to after its seen some use.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Personally I'd rather drive the Easy Eight than the T-34.
Edit: As for the Scimitars, aren't those around to provide Pre - DR fireworks? I haven't seen this many Scimitars blow up since the launch of LOR.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Primary weakness of Tiger Tanks and most German Tanks were their fuel systems. They tended to catch fire easily.
With Homeland Security buying 3000 tanks and 3,000,000,000 bullets for use on US streets plus all the military stuff they are bringing back for you, it may be time to learn how to make molotovs again...
Comparing starships to tanks? Oh my! I dunno about this. Only 1,536 Tiger Is produced and they all had reliability and repair issues throughout the life of the system. Crew quality declined dramatically as the war went on. Which meant the weapon wasn't as effective later on. Crew quality is one of the things people often forget about when discussing this or that tank or weapon system.
If the Scimitar truly is comparable to a Tiger, there shouldn't be that many of them ingame. Further, a Scimi should be able to reach out and touch someone at about two to three times the range of every other ship. For a one shot kill. Everything else on the opposing side should be either running away really fast or working around to the flanks and rear in a group. While someone else should be pumping as many AoE weapons at the Scimi as he can. And if you wanted a Scimi to truly be a Tiger, then you'd have to model into the game random breakdowns of the engine, weapons, and shields. Which could only be repaired after a very long time by using Dilithium.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.

You wanna hear a funny story about Tiger fuel tanks? The first run of Tigers that went to battle in Russia had a funny failure mode where the Tiger would just spontaneously catch fire while driving. The issue was that the exhaust line(read very hot pipe) coming from the engine happened to be right next to the fuel line into the engine. That's a great idea right?
So...when can I get to see the Scimitar suddenly blowing up for no reason?

Speaking of WWII armor, there was a book I had long ago that was about the Tiger I's. In the section talking about the Tiger's 88mm armament, there was a picture and a story about the 88's performance to punch armor. In France, a FlaK unit ambushed a US tank column. One of the 88's hit the lead M4 Sherman square in the middle of the front hull, through the crew compartment, through the engine, out the back, and knocked out another Sherman that was behind it  The pictures shown were US Army, showing the penetrations (oh yeah, I said it) front and back, and the 2nd Sherman's penetration damage.
And this is the L56 version of the 88mm gun, not the more powerful one as used on the later King Tiger.
Two things on a tank which have the most effect on range are the fire control system and the level of training for the crew. The optics on the Tiger I were probably the best on the world at the time. This enabled Tiger I crews to engage targets at ranges well beyond what the tanks of most other countries could reach. A typical WWII tank battle took place at ranges under 600 meters with everyone firing from the short halt and almost all crews using the first round to determine the range.
Martin Caiden, in his excellent book on the Prokohrovka battles (Kursk), states the Russians knew at ranges under 500 meters, the penetration capabilities for the 88mmL56 on the Tiger and the 76.2mm L41 on the T34 were nearly identical. So most Russian armor commanders spent their time devising tactics and techniques which enabled the T34 to close on the Tiger to that range.
Crew training is also vital. There is never enough of it nor is it ever an exact match for combat conditions. Michael Wittman and his gunner, Balthasar Wohl, had been paired since about 1942 at the time of Villers Bocage. They had also been in continuous combat. A tank crew being together this long creates a synergy and efficiency which more than compensates for shortcomings of the personnel or the equipment.
Other factors which also affect performance are crew stability and regular rest periods for the crew. The US 1st Cavalry Division when I was in it went to extraordinary lengths to work up tank crews as teams and then keep those teams together. We had a great deal of trouble during the 1st Gulf War with getting crews to follow and enforce sleep discipline. A tired cavalryman is a liability not an asset.

I'd say it's closer to the Sturmtiger than the Tiger or Tiger II.

"Ja"... they could definitley be called "Glass Cannons". BCW. :P
My Excelsior as a T-34 Aye... I'll take it ! BCW.
