Getting ready for Delta Rising - advice

rahmkota19rahmkota19 Member Posts: 1,929 Arc User
Since its been a tradition to see these kind of threads made by me, figured time for the next one.

This "preparation" thread is here to simply give advices, not to give any opinions, regarding the launch of Delta Rising, 6 days from now.

1) Getting ingame
Getting ingame on launch day is gonna depend on two different things. Getting the patch done and getting in front of the queue. You can quite simply be a very patient person, let it all happen and join the game once everything is done.
You can choose not to play on Launch day and a couple of days afterwards, since history taught us that big releases come with server instability, a lot of maintenance due to unexpected bugs, login queues and slow download speed due to everybody demanding the same patch at once.

All of this can be prevented. However, it isn't gonna be free.
Go gold.
- Tribble access. By patching up Tribble right now, you will have downloaded the entire Delta Rising expansion. Upon launch, the launcher is simply gonna copy your files, instead of doing a massive download.
- Priority login. You'll be placed ahead of the login queue. LoR had a queue of 10.000+ people. I cant say if its gonna be better or worse this time.

2) Ingame
The new content is all gonna take place in the Delta Quadrant. We enter through the Jenolan Sphere, which we enter through the Solanae Sphere, which we enter through the Gateway in the Tau Dewa sector block. You know have an idea where to park your characters.

The energy type of the new Reputation is gonna be Polaron. If you plan on getting these, it might be a smart idea to already get the tactical consoles that boost polaron damage.

With a new level cap comes new missions. Make sure to start building up ec and dilithium reserves if you want to upgrade all of your gear. Get a crafting character ready to get the upgrade stuff you need. If you don't have on yet, start playing queues on one char for the crafting rewards.

Other than that I ca only say that you should take things as they come, take it easy, remember that youll get everything at one point and that you are not in a rush.

There's a one more specific thing players can do to ready themselves up for Delta Rising

    Sort out your boffs.

And for two reasons: intel and Kobali Prime.

Even if you don't plan on getting a T6 ship intel boffs can still be used in ground without restriction. While you can simply throw on an intel boff or two with the upcoming increase in bridge officer space it may not pay to blithely create another two new officers when you probably have someone [disposable] whose build would be better off with an intel ground power or two. Don't dismiss anyone yet, we still don't have all the details about how new officers are going to be aquired, but start thinking now about how you're going to shift your crew around. And remember, you can save character appearances and load them on new boffs if for example you don't want to really lose Commander McSlappy when changing over to an intel boff.

The other side of it is Kobali Prime. Unlike the Dyson Ground Battlezone which you may not have spent much time, there are major story components to the Kobali that regardless of your tendency to grind ground you may still want to play through. This is going to require that you have a well setup 3 man away team. Test your group out now in the Dyson Battlezone and make whatever adjustments you need to before you're tasked with some of the harder missions in the Delta Quadrant.

If I understood correctly, we are going to get extra boff slots when DR launches? I was considering buying extra slots for a couple of characters who ran out of boff slots, so this would save me some dilithium.

One more thing; is there any requirement for playing the new storyline? Like having completed 'Surface Tension' or something like that.

Turn off on demand patching. Better to get it all up front than trying to patch as you go on an already overloaded server.

Personally, I recommend leaving it off, but ymmv.

There is nothing to "get ready" for - nothing in this game will change. You have new content that you'll play for a week, get new shinies and then grind the wheel as usual. That's really not meant to toll or flame, there is literally nothing you need to "get ready" for. Aside from the fact that the servers will be down, but you can't prepare for that other than to play something else instead ;)

How to get ready for Detla Rising.

    -Get snacks

    -Open up the forums

-Sit back, relax and watch the rage unfold with the server crashes, launcher issues, and rampant bugs with your snacks.

Get a crafting character ready to get the upgrade stuff you need.
Anyone who did not start a crafting alt when S9.5 dropped the crafting system is too late to have this happen. In fact, I play nearly every day, and without paying dil for the timegates, my most advanced crafting alt just reached lvl 10, which is hardly enough to assure that the upgrade resources won't be completely wasted. :(

I have only 1 character who is ready for Delta Rising. Since they already did the whole story line to get up to that point.

So far he is getting ready. By upgrading some gear with the new upgrade system. Mostly ground weapons and ship weapons.

I already picked out what ship to use to level up with since you level with your ship. So I will be ready shortly after it launches.

Well to be fair it isn't going to matter if you're gold or not. The server is going to crash enough and they're going to pull down the servers when it's not crashing for emergency maitenance and patches that gold or silver no one's really going to be playing all that much for at least the weekend.

I have no sense of urgency about getting ready for Delta Rising. I'm not remotely prepared to go to the Delta Quadrant. My five toons have just now begun exploring the Solanae Dyson Sphere and their Dyson and Undine Reps are just now at Level Two. I play this game at my own pace and see no reason to rush into anything just because it is new.

On Launch Day, I am going to pull out my Armada II disc and finally get around to finishing up my ST 2009 Full Race Mod for it. I may also flesh out the rest of the Cylons in BSG HRM v2.0. Might take a week or two but by then the hullabaloo over Dilithium Resurgam should abate enough that an ordinary player can go take a look without having to worry about long load times and being bumped from the queue.

Not trying to be negative at all here. Just getting my Star Trek fix from alternate sources which are just as viable as STO and much easier to access.

Admiral M'Kel, in the fleet tactical escort USS Claymore, is pretty much ready.

    All reps done? Check.

Ship set up with fleet or reputation quality gear? check.

Reputation quality ground gear, with full EV set to hand? check.

Quietly building up a cushion of marks, dilithium and EC? check.

    Yup, she's ready.

There any particular skills of note to work into builds? Like how few people used Sci Team till the Voth came along and made it indispensable, or mobility boosts became even more important for the Undine?

Buy gold to get to download the files earlier? lmao

    Talk about no.1 whale behaviour...

You know it's funny, with the dil nerf for queues I just might have LESS content in sto after Dil Rising, if that doesn't speak volumes about the "expansion" I don't know what does.

I already bought my gear and ships and laugh at the entire notion of rebuying it.

Yeah here is another 50$ so I can get in-game asap to pay millions of dil for gear I already own, hilarious son

I'd say just take it in stride and not worry. If you're comfortable with your ship as it is now... don't worry about upgrading anything until AFTER DR hits, and figure out where you want to go then.

Its not a race after all.

Best advice I can give is what we all should be doing anyways. Stock up on dilithium, energy credits, and zen. :P

    1) if you are not already stocked up on zen and dil, with crafting alt or alts already lined up... its far too late.

    2) ASSUMING i remember correctly, after the rom update we had the patch on tuesday, followed closely by 2 or 3 "emergency maintences.. Thurdays regualar maintence (which included emeregency fixes.. followed by 5 more emergencies patches over the weekend.

Your BEST idea for 'getting ready' for delta rising would be to schedule a weeks vactation and come back when they get it all sorted.

    Just a thought.

This... at this point if you don't have this stuff, you're far too late.

But there's a positive to this. Because of the way the time gates are in STO, you don't have to be ready for jack. You're not getting the new rep system fully maxed for a few weeks, even if you have all your dilithium, you're still restricted to how fast you can raise your gear to MK XIV, even if you did all your gear you want to MK XIII.

Then there is the inevitable stuff that you waste all your dil now, then get to the new rep system and decide you want that stuff instead and all of that is MK XII.

And it's going to take days at least to get your specialties up

So you don't need to be ready for launch to suddenly be uber. You won't... and can't no matter what you want to be top of the line. It's going to take time, and during that time you can do content that'll raise your level and your specilizations and get dilithium.

I seem to have missed the bit where there's a race to get stuff maxed first

    Or maybe there's a prize?

    No?

Snark aside, it is never too late unless you have bad impulse control, in which case it is always too late. There is no need to be in a hurry.

    Just a thought.

I never keep a stockpile of Dil. Since I never hit the cap unless the Dil event or finishing a Rep. So usually I have to do a couple of Dil runs. Only Dil I'm using on the crafting is the price to upgrade items. And I'm already almost done. So just a few more to go.

I agree about taking a week off from the game. They usually shut it down a few times during that week. Even WoW used to be like this. Plus so many are on trying out the new areas. They would crash and cause a lot of lags. Even after DR comes out. I won't go into the new areas at least a couple of weeks. Unless I get my gear upgraded like I want.
