ship tailor error

while running a new toon through , every ship i use the tailor while leveling up no ship palette colors works all appear black , no matter the pattern one uses . . how can this get broken over and over .

I have been having the same problem. It seems you have to actually begin the process by selecting a ship template. Only then can you change the actual colors. Unfortunately, this makes it tedious and potentially difficult to replicate a custom mixed ship appearance with a variety of styles or patterns.
