There are three 'special' Bat'leths, right? "Day of Honor" Tritanium Rending Bat'leth, the Shard Sword of Kahless from the Fek'ihri arc, and the C-Store Kri'stak Bat'leth. I'll admit to not knowing about the Kri'stak since it's a single purchase item and I've never seen the point in buying it since the SSoK is awarded for free...
The SSoK is Epic and levels up along with you to level fifty and then stops... but now the Tritanium Rending Bat'leth can level up to level fifty, then be converted to a Mk XII and upgraded further...
So with 'normal' Bat'leths and the Tritanium Rending Bat'leth able to be upgraded to Mk XIV (and even Epic/Gold quality if one wants to put the time, effort and raw materials into it), does this mean that the Shard Sword and the Kri'stak Bat'leth are, for lack of a better term, no longer effective at endgame levels?
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
The Kristak blade is uncommon so it can be upgraded to be better but the sword of kahless is basically pointless to upgrade since the other two bat leg get better mods from upgrading rarity.
The Shard Sword becomes outmatched by the others... As I suspected.
*Frowns in thought for a moment*
Okay, bare with me on this... the Shard Sword is supposed to be a gift from Emperor Kahless, made by him in the same manner in which he created his own Bat'leth in times past, a symbol that you have defeated Molor and Fek'ihr and stand as one of the greatest warriors of the age, right? Seems a little... out of place considering that it comes in third or fourth compared to one bought in the C-Store, one awarded for talking to a ship's crew on the Day of Honor or even just any normal Bat'leth that you spend the Upgrade Kits and dilithium on, doesn't it?

I haven't played around with the upgrades yet, so I wouldn't know first hand - however if the Shard Sword can't be upgraded and the rest can to a degree of being better, I'm sure it's just another bug or an oversight on their behalf. Make sure you report it so it can be fixed.

the shard sword has always been outmatched by the normal purple bat'leth you could also choose as a reward from that mission, despite having the same mods plus an extra [Dmg] mod...probably because it's a leveless item and they stop leveling with your character at mk x, while the normal bat'leth could go up to mk xi
as for the kri'stak or tritanium rending bat'leths, i can't comment on those, since i don't have the kri'stak at all and i only have one tritanium on a character that doesn't have a shard, so i can't do comparisons
but if the shard can be upgraded, slotting it will convert it to mk xii and it should surpass the mk xi reward choice at the very least, but don't know about the other two
oh, and by the way...there are actually more than 3 special bat'leths if you count the nanopulse edge bat'leths from the winter event

I would like to see the MOV Anti-Borg Bat'leth make a return to the game. If nothing else, it should be an Omega Force store item (along with anti-Borg Lipiras, Naus Tegolars, and Tsunkatse Falchions). And yes, allow us to upgrade them too!
Shard blade is more on an 'honor weapon' - it goes up on the shelf in a nice wood case for visitors to admire its golden glowy goodness. Consider it an heirloom.

The true power of the Sword of Kahless is what it represents. Even Kahless tells you that, in the Gre'thor mission.
except what you get as a reward choice is NOT the sword of kahless, it's a replica...and i still expect a replica of that caliber to be at least slightly better than a common, garden-variety bat'leth, not worse

My favorite is the Titanium Rending Bat'leth. Liked it first time I saw one and immediately got a bad case of "Gotta Have It." Even after all this time one doesn't see all that many of them. It is my preferred ground weapon. Delighted to hear it is upgradeable.
