I can totally see them making up something like Kirk through a technobabble means getting transported to the JJverse, where Dr. McNecromancer uses his tribble serum to bring Kirk back to life.
Now we just to explain why Kirk got so fat.
I'll finish reading the rest of the treads: However, you sir get a gold star!!
On a more serious note: what ever they do I hope that they leave both characters in good standing, peaceably and with the dignity that they brought to the series.
IMHO Trek is one of the few TV series that was able to grow and survive as it did over the years. Perfect? .... good grief no! No series ever will be. Aside from NCIS, Trek unquestionably will be remembered for a long time yet to come (as far as TV series are concerned).
My only regret is the passing of Doohan and DeForest Kelly who could undoubtedly add to a final "reunion" as it were.
It's not a RUMOR anymore.
Shatner told a Trek Convention audience last Saturday in Nashville, that JJ did in fact call him and ask if he was interested in being in the next movie.
Shatner said sure, if the story is good. (not a direct quote but is the gist of the story)

They've already given Kirk a way to be anywhere/anytime when he was in the nexus, but Nimoy is a bit harder to write into ST3. Maybe they could get Spock into the nexus too with a flashback to something Kirk did in the nexus, eh ?
Canon fodder
not a bad idea really: they could figure out a way to let Pike live as well (much like they did in the Menagerie). That gets the classical Spock / Pike and Kirk, all in a place of timeless living (of sorts).
I'm not sure if I said that right... but I think you get the idea!
EDIT: I base that upon the idea that even the original Spock risked everything to get Pike back to where he could live out his life (after the accident), by taking over the Enterprise ....etc etc.
As the title says, how do you think they could do that, with Prime Kirk dead?
The only way I can see it is Chris Pine Kirk ages for some reason, and we get Shatner for a bit.
Psst remember khans magic blood prime spock goes back in time to save prime kirk with khans magic blood and takes prime kirk to the JJverse where they can sell volkswagons together lol

All that aside: Yeah ! "make it good one!"

Only, ONLY if this music plays in the background during the fight.
