I doubt we'll see any vendors as I don't think the Foundry supports them.
EV suit in the costume editor are proving tricky. However, apparently Zero was adding EV suits as NPC contacts to the Foundry last night. A good compromise.
Not everyone has a floater, and the rentals you pick up from Risa only last for 15 minutes... We're gonna need to provide em with a foundry floater or suffer some 1 star strikes.
You're thinking of the Colosseum map. That had a Melee only volume.
So it did, Haven't played that mission for a while, I'm guessing it would take some tech time to get that sort of volume available to us, but would be very useful for certain missions

I think we're unlikely to get any kind of vendors. Authors need to be aware of the risks they take when using floater or space volumes. No matter how much we warn people they need these items in the mission, you will have some people that ignore the warnings.
Personally I am planning to remake one my missions to require a floater, however, I do plan to have some kind of system for bypassing that section if people don't have one.
Why not set it up like in "A Step Between Stars " ?
Have the player automatically equip an floater when entering the floater radius?
Seconded. That's actually the first thing I thought of when they were adding floater volumes. Adding a volume that force-equips the player with a floater would solve plenty of problems.
Does it? I don't remember it sticking a floater in your inventory or device tray. Don't get me wrong, it clearly shows a floater on the players back, but it wasn't a device the player could access.
Honestly though, I really don't know enough about how that variation of the floater volume worked to make an assessment of it's viability as a Foundry asset.
Part of the problem is we don't know how this was done on the back end, and whether that process could be put into a volume for us to use. One thing we were told when requesting a way to alter the player's appearance and their ship like in the Doomsday Device was that the process to make that happen in the episode was essentially and extremely complicated "hack" on their end and wouldn't be easily put into the Foundry.
Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be a great solution to have the volume automatically place a floater on the player, I just try never to assume anything will be "easy".
Good news keeps on coming, these additions are really increasing my confidence in the foundry and the game in general

If you guys run into Tacofangs (Tumerboy) or ZeroniousRex, be sure to thank them. They've put in a ton of work to get us these assets. They are awesome people.

If you are a 500-day veteran and can get your Foundry toon to level five, you can claim the veteran EV suits. Otherwise if you can level enough to be able to earn 100 dilithium, you can buy one on the asteroid mining station.
Ummm...I've been here since a week before the initial launch of STO, and my Foundry toons do not level at all because they can't set the flag for having finished the tutorial that they can no longer play.
Could you please explain HOW to level a toon that can't earn XP?

I hopped into a high-level deep space encounter and used the kill button for some residual xp.

I tried that; It won't let my Foundry toons into them...probably because they are still set to not having finished the tutorial, and therefore cannot earn XP or pickup missions...aside from the forced pickup of the Foundry mission I'm previewing.
This has been a problem for me for quite a while.
It has been over a year since I've published a Foundry mission because I have no way to properly test them for higher leveled scaling, aside from publishing them, and recieving low ratings because the mission isn't finished, and some players didn't bother to read the note, and refuse to replay the mission when it's done...after I ask them extremely nicely in an in-game email...after having explained the issue.
EDIT: This just in.
The editor will not load when trying to use it with my new KDF toon.
It keeps timing out.
My SF toon works fine, but I'm trying to make a KDF mission.

Nope.
I had to use the Cryptic New Romulus ground map, kill the respawing Tal Shiar to get past level 1, and THEN I was able to earn XP, but STILL can't do DSE's, and can't pick up missions (presumably because they start at level 3, which the daily XP limit on Foundry toons would not allow me enough XP to get to).
I'm guessing you 2 are trying to help, but, evil70th, restating that an idea worked for you AFTER I clearly stated it did not work for me, is not helping.
1. DSE's aren't red clouds that I can interact with; They are fugly placeholder ships which fly right past me, and offer no interact prompt, or any other form of interaction whatsoever.
2. The only XP my NEW Foundry Test Toons ("new" as in, "made after the issue started", which was about two years ago) can gain right out of creation is by killing the respawning Tal Shiar on the Cryptic New Romulus ground map (by using it in the mission I'm previewing).
3. AFTER reaching level one from #2 above, I CAN gain XP from killing enemies, but the daily cap does not allow me to reach the starting level for the first available episode to become...well...available.
4. I am going back into Foundry (On Holodeck) to see if getting to level 3 will allow me to pickup missions, but every NON-Episode Mission-Map I've tried to enter so far just places me underneath the current map when I try to transfer to said Mission-Map.
5. I will gladly PM anyone if they want to know the results, and I am also thinking about posting this in the Holodeck Bug Reports...for the 12 time...in the past year alone...since no one ever responds to it, and it therefore never gets bumped or probably even read by the correct personnel.

There are plenty of problems I see with the floaters. The limitations the author would need to place on the player would be numerous. First I see is texturing. There are a few assets that are not textured on the other side and being able to float over it to that side is a breaker. The more common one is some people don't have them.
If floaters are used, I see a great number of invisible walls in use as well.
Right now, I think I'm only going to place that volume while I build maps. It would be incredible if I could move across the map, over cliffs or walls that I've created, instead of moving the spawn point and waiting to relaunch the preview map.
I was thinking, we got the flowing water asset; is there a hack or truly a suggestion for the sound of flowing water. The river sound on New Romulus perhaps?

No, That mission places one on you as you pass throug hthe forcefield. It automatuically takes it away when you pass back through.

Can we get "Allied" Hirogen, Voth, Undine, Tholians & Breen npc groups?
To hell with the Kobali, they're getting what they deserve in the new battle zone.
