For only a few Z you can haz that shiny new Gold XIV item ... just open yer wallet ... Can you say "Coalescent Ward"?

As long as they are the coal wards from nw and not the even worse and vastly more expensive ones from champions. Over in champs you can buy a rank 6->7 ward for $25, a rank 7->8 for $30 and rank 8->9 for $35. And these wards can't be used on gear of the "wrong" rank.

Which is why I don't think they've ever been used by anyone. As far as I can tell everyone just burns through piles of preservation wards or the even cheaper +10% wards (catalysts to use champs' terminology).

I read some rumor that it could cost up to over 400K Dil per item to fully upgrade (unless you want to wait for over a year for each countdown timer to finish). Multiply that times the number of weapons, consoles, and your space set plus core. That about what at today's current Exchange rate? Over $300 real dollars worth of Zen? Damn this is getting depressing. I know this is P2W, but this is starting to turn into a Rich Kid's Game.

Video of this if you can or screen shots . 37k not bad if the stats make it worth it.

So 37k for a ~4% increase in damage. Not sure that's a bargain.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Yes and no ... It all really comes down to time. IF you have a high enough R&D XP in a certain field, and IF you have enough of the required components, then you can craft the "Superior Tech Upgrade" which significantly lowers the Dil cost, and increases the chances of a Rarity upgrade ... However those a two big IF's.

Otherwise you'll either be waiting a VERY long time for the upgrades, and spending a VERY long time scrounging materials or spending a VERY large amount of EC buying either the Materials or the Upgrade Kits themselves.

This is what I've been saying all along: that DR may well be the most expensive expansion yet. One day you have all endgear stuff, the next everything is sub-par and needs an upgrade.

Again yes and no ... Cryptic are being VERY careful to make sure that all content is "playable" with current end game gear. It may or may not be "fun" or "easy", but it WILL be doable, so you won't "need" to upgrade, (they are studiously avoiding that accusation)

The whole purpose though, is then make it all just annoying enough to make you "want" to upgrade, even if you tell yourself you never will, they are hoping that eventually most players will "cave in" and go the pay route ... It's a fine line, and we'll have to wait and see if Cryptic is capalble of walking it.
