The discussion is going strong, and the camps are fighting the good fight for their respective opinions.
However, because of the "good fights", it's actually hard to determine how the "temperature of the waters is", so I am going to get down to basics and ask straight out, to try to get a better feeling for things:
Will you, once x2 goes live:
[ ] Get/have already gotten a T6 Ship
[ ] Go for a T5.75 (T5-U, whatever you prefer)
[ ] Stay with your current T5 / T5.5 Ship
And for what reason?
I also know this is a long shot, but try not yo get into the whole discussion if it is good or bad as I think it would derail the thread, but feel free to correct obvious misunderstandings that might help make the results as precise as possible.
Again: It's a long shot... perhaps even overly optimistic... But try.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
I will upgrade my Fleet Sovereign to T5U, for certain. It is my favorite ship on my main character. I will also upgrade my Galaxy X and my Vesta. Those will cover my 3 favorite Fed characters.
I will buy the Operations Pack when it hits the C-Store. I really like the look of the Phantom, Scryer, and Guardian. Plus I have 83,000 Zen and spending 16,000 on the Pack - assuming it is roughly the same Zen price as the LoR Pack - means nothing to me.
I spent Sunday playtesting the new Content on Tribble with Fleetmates. I used my Fleet Sovy with all Rep Gear and blew through everything with ease. Then I redid it all with my free Sovy and Mk X white gear and, again, did it with ease. Tomorrow we are going to try and redo it all with T4 ships to see what happens. But at least for now everything is playable in T5s, let alone T5Us or T6s.
So as of right now I will still use the same 3 ships upgraded to T5U on my main alts but some of my other alts will get T6 and T6 Intel ships just for the fun of it.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I'm reverting to pure F2P and have diverted my monthly gaming budget to other games. So, I'll fly whatever ships are upgraded for free to run through the single-player missions and whatever grinder maps are more interesting than annoying. I wont be buying upgrades for any of the other T5 ships. Any future purchases will have to be T6 ship that I actually want to fly around, and only if I have the diilthium to buy it without spending any r/l cash for a bump.
I have several event ships and the 1000 day ships which will upgrade for free so they are a no brainer with those. Not planning on buying anything in the short term for reasons other than cost of the pack.

No. It's a money grab on Cryptic's part. First they say "if you try to run T6 content in your T5 ship, LOOK OUT!" [dev commentary] then they say "you can run all but a small addition in your T5 ship" then they say "oh, but we're ripping you off big time for every ship you want to upgrade..." [if you listen between the lines, that's what they say].
I won't upgrade my ships unless they come with a free upgrade. The only one I might upgrade is my Fleet K'Tinga Retro, and ONLY because it's so freaking abused by crpytic right now it's sub-par in every regime for a fleet ship, let alone a FLEET (emphasis on fleet) battlecruiser. If I upgrade it might only be to that ship, just to bring it up to the level it should be right now but is not.
If they ever got off their butts and gave it a hull rate deserving of a FLEET battlecruiser, or even ANY kind of universal boff, then I wouldn't even bother upgrading to T-5U. However, since it appears they hate this ship vehemently, I will continue to doubt such an event will ever take place.
It's difficult to say without having seen the stats and Boff layouts of the new T6 ships, honestly. We have no information beyond what kinds of cloaks they have (or that they won't be cloaking, as with the Guardian cruiser), and what their special console abilities are.
Right now, I'm inclined to just upgrade my Fleet Defiant and keep flying it. Unless the Phantom is basically "Defiant-but-better" (which it almost *has* to be if they want to sell it), I can't see flying it over my FTER. All signs point to T6 ships having only 10 consoles, compared to Fleet T5-U's 11, which means I'll likely get most of the gameplay of the Phantom by just slotting my existing Cloak into the 11th console.
If the Phantom has similar stats to the Defiant with a better Boff layout, I might pick it up. It will have to be significantly better than just the Active Sensor Arrays and the Heavy Phaser Lance to justify the likely price of 2500-3000 Zen, over the likely 500 Zen price of upgrading my FTER.
@thecosmic1; that's very interesting to know that you can still use the T5 with MK X stuff on them and can still be effective.
@anazonda; well am keeping my T5 ship because I love them, so I will be upgrading them to T5U for my main and alts. These are the ships that I will be upgrading vesta for my main Sci captain the intrepid, the defiant for my Tac and the sovy for my Eng. I will also get the operation pack because my rom Sci needs a good ship to fly. I hope cryptic hasn't forgot that the rom don have enough Sci .
"You ask why we give our ships computer normal emotions. Do you really want a warship incapable of loyalty?"
I use canon ships almost exclusively. As long as T6 doesn't come with canon designs I can't see myself grinding for a T6 ship. Wether or not I upgrade my current T5/FT5 ships remains to be seen and depends on the cost. If it's free, sure why not. If it requires Zen equal to a new ship however I think I will invest those Zen in canon T5 designs I don't have or in costumes or anything else. I might, again cost dependant, upgrade my c-store refist because I'm not in a fleet with a T5 shipyard, so having a little boost to my retrofits would certainly be nice. But only if it's around 500 Zen max.
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Most of my ships on my 5 characters are lockboxes/lobi right now, so they get a free upgrade and in my opinion are superior to the tier 6, at least as far as i can tell.
i'll take 11 consoles and the extra shield and hull over a 13th boff seating anyday if im going for straight up power. maybe if the seating is an extra commander slot i'll change my mind, but anything below that i think my lockbox ships will remain the ones to have.
i will probably will still buy the pack as i do still want to try out the new intelligence ships and boffs and see if that new gameplay offers something more interesting than what i have, and i like the look of the kdf and rom ships.
that will also give me three tokens to upgrade a few fleet ships like the valdore, avanger and mogh.
basically im leaving my options open and plan to try a mixture of upgrading and using new ships to see what i enjoy the most.
My hope is to have enough zen saved up from Dil transactions to buy two T6 ships and a couple of T5-U upgrades. My Fleet Sovereign is definitely getting one but where the second falls is a bit of a toss-up. I could go for a T5-U Tempest, Scimitar, or Aventine pretty easily. The T6 I'm looking at right now are the Intel Warbird and the intel FED cruiser since those should fill some pretty basic holes in my c-store ship inventory besides simply being great to look at. The Guardian class cruiser is tempting but if only to get the most out of the new intel boff mechanics I have to go with the FED's Aventador. :P

Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
I'm not sure...I'm considering getting the Faeht as I will have 5k zen saved up by then with my stipend.
But at the same time I kinda want to get the Recon Rom DSD and I could really use the zen to sell some keys to get a leech for my new Rom Sci...so I'm kinda undecided in the whole matter.
I'm obviously going to upgrade a few ships to T5U so I guess I fit best in that category.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I bought the Delta pack cause I think it's a rather good deal since everything in it is account wide and can be reclaimed, even the boffs and doffs.
Not sure if I'll upgrade any ship since the vet and event stuff (and the 1 box ship I own) gets upgrades for free. The only T5 ships I own that can be uprgaded are the eng ody (monthly stipend+dil) and the recently acquired varanus. So two of the upgrades that come from the pack will be used for them, maybe.
Reason: Partially because I really like how they look and partially to support the KDF faction, since we can't expect to get much stuff for the faction unless we buy more stuff.
I'll eventually start upgrading my KDF and Romulan ships one by one to T5-U when the time comes for each of my alts to go throgh the new content and level up to 60.
Reason: I bought most of those ships not because of performance, but because I love the design. Therefore I can't really see myself walking away from them, especially a few iconic designs that are close to my heart.
I'll continue using my standard T5 ships I already have on the Fed side.
Reason: The Fed. T6 ships are ugly as sin to me. Not upgrading because I expect my blue side gameplay to be very significantly reduced after "Delta Rising', so no point in wasting resources on that. Maybe I'll eventually upgrade the Galaxy, just because.
Conclusion: I guess I'm a bit of a mix on this question. The thing is, I don't have a strict plan or path that I decided to act upon, so I'll act as my gut feeling tells me for the time being.
Most of my ships on my 5 characters are lockboxes/lobi right now, so they get a free upgrade and in my opinion are superior to the tier 6, at least as far as i can tell.
I'm going to upgrade my lockbox ships since they get it for free and see how they do before I spend anything to upgrade more. If I like how it feels at the new endgame, then I might upgrade more. If not, then I won't.
The upgraded Mobius will be an absolute beast, my main tac will use that. Following that trend my mains will switch to Box ships to see how T5-U11 works out. T6 doesn't look all that amazing to me, I like stats over gimmicks. Maybe use dilithium to upgrade some or get T6 ships when I finish all the new content just to spice things up. No money spent.

Reason:
I have 5 max level characters, so I will certainly upgrade the ships that upgrade for free-
I don't really love the new Fed ships design, so I plan to buy the new component to upgrade my Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier [Though I have two characters who need to upgrade their HEC to the fleet version, so I can upgrade them to the Tier 5-U] as my primary ship.
After a bit, I will probably get the new component to upgrade my:
Fleet T'Varo Light Warbird Retrofit
Fleet Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit (Nebula)
I will buy the Tier 6 KDF ship, the MaHa Raptor, as I think it looks great, and want to compare the Tier 6 ships to the Tier 5-U.
On the Romulan side, I actually like the Romulan Dyson Science Destroyer, so I think I'll upgrade that (for free) and be very happy.

I'll get the free upgrade for the Chimera I earned.
Other than that, all my ships are staying as they are right now.
I refuse to pay again for what is essentially part of my characters.
I'm an LTS that's been buying zen to support Cryptic since closed beta, and I'm not buying another single zen. Even my monthly stipend isn't going to be wasted on this, I'll just convert it to dilithium and donate it to my fleet starbases.
depending on price, i may upgrade either my multivector or my guramba. not like i play STO much anymore. kinda gotten sick of this sort of ploy to squeeze money out of the community.
i will not upgrade any of my other ships. there's no point. when i do play, i do just fine with substandard gear. cryptic doesnt have a history of making hard content and i dont see them starting now. my old ships at least might pose a challenge in the new content.
I bought the Delta pack, since only my main has lockbox ships. This gives all my alts T6 ships.
I agree, T5-Us right now look better than T6.
They do? I thought it was all DDDDDDOOOOOOMMMMM and there is no way T6 wont be the end all be all of the game?!? lol sorry...just some of the opinions on T6 with no justification or comprehension just make me laugh.
Nice to see someone who isn't completely jumping to conclusions with little or no info.

More than likely I'm going to upgrade to T5-U and stick with it, well past DR. As of now I only intend to acquire one T6 vessel for my main at a later date, just to have one. I don't find T6 much appealing since it sounds a bit gimmicky, but I won't know for sure until I've tried it out and see how it plays.

Depends. I already got the Operation Package, so at least for a while, I will use Tier 6 ships (particularly the Intelligence for the novelty of the new mechanics), but I also have a few lockbox/lobi ships (well, 3 Xindi Escort, Undine Escort, Palisade)and they required a bit too much work and expenses that I'd just dismiss them, and at least the Tier 5 Upgrade of them will be free.
I expect to also update a few ships to Tier 5U. We'll see if it is worth it.
I am not sure yet what I'll do with the Mirror BOP. It's cool, but it is already on the weak side.
I may decide to create a few alts... ANd I still haven't upgraded all characters to Fleet ships, and so they will certainly lag behind.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Starting off, all of my 8 (there will be a ninth captain for dedicated Constellation goodness) characters will upgrade their primary and secondary ships to T5.75. With the sole exception being the character dedicated to flying a Miranda forever.
My main reason is that each of my characters don't need all of their ships upgraded, just the ones they are going to use plus one backup. They have their signature ships already.
I *might* get the new Intel T6 ships if I like their ship traits.
