Fleet and Reputation consoles vs Delta Rising

varthelmvarthelm Member Posts: 265 Arc User
I've touched on this in a couple of other threads but thought I'd specifically open the topic here.

There's been a lot of discussion about the ships but not about the consoles and gear many of us have invested a great deal to build up. For me, that made it easy to roll with new ship purchases since I had some good stuff to put on it and give it a whirl. I know gear changes in MMO's but I think it's different in this case. Especially in terms of fleet consoles.

With that advent of the expanded fleet holdings, we were given a variety of greatly superior options and substantial dilithum costs vs the consoles we had available before. Prior to that, we either got drops or spent EC in the market place for the best equipment. After, we needed to get armors and warp cores from the dil mine, perhaps some sci consoles from the rom embassy and definitely the tac consoles from the spire. The tac consoles alone were 50k dil a piece and if you run multiple toons and use a variety of damage types on different ships, those costs go in the 7 figure dil range easily. 1.5 mil dil is around $100 or a lot of time invested...it adds up fast.

All those consoles of course only go to mark XII and now we are gettng mark XIV gear. What are the plans for these consoles, both reputation and fleet. I think we've seen a precedent being set when the reputation changes came in elimiinating mark X and XI versions of the same items for the top mark reputation items. I would suggest a similar thing so as not to invalidate the potentially huge investments people have made in such items.

For example, instead there being mark X, XI, XII and presumably XIII and XIV options at the fleet holdings for consoles why can we not consolidate into the current mark XII being the base at the mark XII's cost, then adding an upgrade option at 5% per mark upgraded to get to XIV. That way it's not free but we have not trashed the previous investment either. Reputation projects for similar level upgrades for Mk XII stuff could also be implemented.

Other MMO's have solved this during expansions increasing level caps by establishing not a power creap but a power jump with new drops being greatly superior to what people had pre-expansion. I dont think any of us want to see something llike that. We also dont want to feel like we've paid through the nose for things (some in real money) just to have it all get invalidated in one fell swoop.

I personally am eyeballing the DLC but cannot bring myself to spend $125 on that when I also have to rebuy at full cost all my gear/consoles just because the mark level jumped up. I don't think I can justify that and I've justified many purchases on STO. That just might be asking too much.

TLDR = Ships are just platforms for our consoles, lets talk about upgrade options for fleet holding and reputation consoles.

PS. We just had a kit revamp, and many of us just spent dil/cash to get the new kits and their modules. Now we'd need Mark XIV kits or run with old stuff? Please say it isn't so. :)

There was a stealth push in the latest Tribble build that will answer your question. Since it hasn't been announced, I can't say more without the post being culled, but rest assured that the situation has a solution.

You're starting to talk me back from the ledge. Haven't played much in the last month due to this issue primarily but....if a reasonable solution is in the works, this gives me the first bit of true excitement for this expansion. They really needed to get some info out on this subject.

    Thanks! :)

It's less than 6 weeks until launch, so the news will be coming soon - patience, young padawan. ;)

I'll just give a piece of advice that's generically useful, but applies here: start saving Dilithium, or buy some Zen to convert.

Maybe after I have had more time to tinker. I only spent 20 minutes or so on it before bed last night, and I am "at work" now. ;)

If it's related to the fact that the MACO Ground set now (on Holodeck) lists six possible set items (the existing Mk XII and "Mk-less" versions of the Armor, Shield, and Weapon), it's rather reassuring. It would be nice to see a permanent fix that allows the devs to focus on building content rather than micromanaging every Rep/Fleet item in the game whenever they raise the level cap... assuming they do so again, and assuming that the "Mk-less" Rep set items indicate the direction they're taking...

    Hmmm...

With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

Already spent quite a bit of zen/dil/money building up this stuff. A small upgrade cost would be fine but if they expect to signficantly hit me in the wallet again for the same items, they will be disappointed.

Glad to hear the issue is at least recognized and am looking forward to them publishing more specifics.

    Thanks again :)

At least part of the answer is on tribble right now and will likely stay there for as long as people dont complain too much about it, especially since it doesnt go into great detail anway. Definitely anxious about the blog going into specifics.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles
