So with Delta Rising coming up. Id like to see the option to customize make-up on trill females. I don't see why you cant have that option with them like every other race. If any others feel this way, speak up:)

    Agreed ...

I'd also like the option of having different Eyeliner/Eyeshadow to Lipstick colours ... We are getting some tailor updates in EP2, but i'm not sure if this will be amongst them ...

Pretty sure Trill don't get makeup, because your spots take up that texture slot.

So make an extra makeup texture slot called 'species markings' or something, and set it for trill markings and make those options only available if you're on a trill toon. Then if you ever add new species markings- different Catian fur lengths maybe- you can put them in there without compromising the ability to wear makeup.

    This!!! (Excellent idea!)

I'd really love to customize make-up on my trill females, too.

It's not that simple. Material shaders can only have so many textures. I'm pretty sure the character shader (being one of the most complicated we have) is already maxed out.

Would it be possible to combine make-up and trill spots variations?

Okay, there are what - 4 make-up variations and 3 trill spot variations, not sure if the number of different textures possible could also pose a problem...

Theoretically yes. They could do it on the back end, but hide it on the front end. So it looks like it's letting you pick from the makeup list, and from the spots list, but it's actually reading those choices and picking from one of 12 textures to actually deploy.

Would that be why your eyebrows and some hair or other details disappear when you beam up?

Because transporter effects are overriding or usurping one or more of those slots?

    Other details like skirts? :P
    Sorry... couldn't resist that one.

If Taco's saying it might not be possible... then it might not be possible. Unless we add more options like combining the spots and makeup combinations...

They may be able to combine spots and makeup, but I'm not sure. That depends on the texture sizes and how much room there is to put both together.

As for eyebrows and such disappearing, this is unrelated. Eyebrows/hair/etc. have alpha (transparency) which doesn't sort well with the semi-transparent effect used for Transporting. So the transporter beam essentially overrides those other transparent items on your character. . . . I think.

Yeah, this isn't a problem specific to STO, but a general limitation of DirectX (as far as I can tell.)

I think this would be a good idea, mainly because alot of people play Trill characters, and if it's possible like Taco said to combine the two into one category, or even make a separate slot for special patterns for trill spots and makeup slot for the makeup, it would add a nice bit of customization with Trill toons.

    Tacofangs is totally correct.

Unfortunately the most we could do is share the makeup with the spots, meaning the makeup would always be the exact color as the spots (which are shades of dark blue-grey).

It's not possible to add a second color layer or whatever to that texture, then?

Oh, when the colors are the same, there wouldn't be much use to it, I guess.

So then, why not allow a choice between makeup and face tattoos? The tats do have a bit more of a color range.

After all, you will never get a job with a face tattoo (other then giving face tattoos to other people). :D
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

The face tats/scars are movable/scale-able and don't line up to anything. We couldn't lock it down to scale and position when you choose "make-up" if it was in that slot.

From the beginning we wanted pretty much all of the species to have make-up as an option, but as Tacofangs said, the number of texture passes is already maxed out and for the trill to have spots, we had to sacrifice the make-up option.

If we were to make the trill have only one spot pattern we could work it in a way that opened the slot for make-up...but that would likely make quite a few people mad if their favorite spot pattern went away.

Well, can't you effectively sacrifice the scars/tattoo options entirely for Trill then? Not many people use those anyway and it seems the least missed option anyway if it were to go.

The issue is that there is one shader used for characters. We'd need to not only make an alternate shader that sacrificed tattoos/scars in favor of a makeup pass, but also create some special way for the game to select an entirely different shader if you happen to pick Trill. Top that with the fact that it would drag down performance to some degree, and that sounds like a whole load of not gonna happen, to me.

Then buy a new graphic engine for the game. Because all the other games in the world have much better graphic engines.

But don't make the update more than 50MB or my internet connection won't handle it.

    It's not that complicated.

By the way, did I mention that all the other games are much better? I play FarmVille and Simpsons Tapped Out on my 7 year old pc, so I know what I am talking about.

I also worked as PR Agent, Dev and Community Manager and I know all the possibilities to make money, so Cryptic should listen to me.

Not so simple. Overhauling the game engine might break something. Everything's set up for the current engine. And Farmville isn't installed on your computer, its a browser game. That's easy to tweak. STO... not so much.

Sorry to sort of hijack this thread but with all the Cryptic responses I just couldn't resist. On the topic of trill spots, are the neck spots ever going to get fixed so they blend with the spots on the body?

And for that matter the spots on aliens? Aliens have only one spot pattern, and it stops at the neckline.

I want to see all females get make up options....and as important I would like them to allow us to choose different eye shadow and lip stick. They have these options on Champions, so why not bring them to us...and I also would like to see more options for hair. However, the limits they have chosen to place on us (remember, Champions was out first) makes little sense to me.
