Ships are items, your character isn't a ship, it's a "person" you created who is captain of a ship. I think some minds can't grasp that concept. STO has never been about a ship, it's about a captain.
Oh yes it resets.... it resets your power level. Back to nooblet. To the dude you frown upon when he enters ISE with a T4 free ship. Failing optionals (or eating a 1 hour CD).
While I agree that a ship is more than a simple piece of gear, the fact is we had to switch ships several times as we levelled up. Now we are going to be levelling up some more. We've just got used to sitting at T5 over the past 4 years is all.
I'm not too happy about being moved out of my favourite ships after I've got so comfy in them; but then, I wasn't too happy being moved from the Heavy Cruiser at T3 to the great lumbering lump that is the Galaxy at T4 either (and the HC Retrofit didn't come out until years later).
I'm just waiting to see more about the T6 ships for now; I don't feel we really know enough to justify all this arguing yet.
i dont agree because i see ships not as a piece of gear like consoles or weapons but my "space class" that should be my choice and not forced to change because of power differences betwen tiers.
for tier differences theres already tiers on weapons, consoles, boff seats, etc. i think the c store would sell better if people could buy their favourite ships to play at max lv instead of only the T5-T6 ones.

Yea well... People better get used to that. I seriously doubt that many people will give up on their character just because a new "species" is added.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
>THIS< is the list of upgradeable ships in 'Delta Rising'.
Basically, as far as I can see, if you use your free T5 Ha'fex you got once you hit lvl 40 - you won't be able to upgrade it to T5-U in 'Delta Rising'. Only C-Store/fleet ships that have been payed for and lockbox/lobi ships get the option to upgrade.
If you have or get the fleet Ha'fex, they you'll be able to upgrade that one to T5-U in 'Delta Rising'.
Hope this helps.
What about the Mirror Universe Ha'feh? Because I just bought one Mirror Universe for each of the 3 T5 Warbirds...
|EDIT| Nevermind I see from the list that those ships are excluded...well ain't that just a bunch of bs moneygrabbing TRIBBLE... Effective immediately I have no respect for the developers of this game...not unless they can make this game fun again for people who can't just sit here shelling out real money... God dang... I'll try Delta Rising but I get the feeling that unless it stays true to the fun I was able to get out of it all this time for free...then its just yet another game the developers ruined to hell and back and I won't look back as I spit behind me and keep moving forward... This is bs... I want to thank you for the list, I read that whole page and must have missed the link. Sorry to vent but I think I'm finally sharing the frustration of so many trekkies who USED to love STO... RIP...
I see what the real issue is with this... Before: From level 1 - 10, you got one free ship to use, with options to buy other ships for your level range...but you didn't have to in order to enjoy the game without a bunch of stress about whether you could actually do combat without dying in 20 seconds... And it went that same exact way all the way up to the level cap of 50, and then you had options to boost your combat effectiveness past the level cap with advanced ships and equipment...but you didn't HAVE to in order to enjoy the game without the stress of surviving in combat... NOW...with these changes to Delta Rising, its all F\_/QT up... We won't be able to enjoy combat without paying or farming Dilithium like a mad motherbuckler just for 8k a day at the current Zen per Dil rates to have to wait months just to get a F\_/King good ship to enjoy the game...nope...they're going to have to keep with the same style and traditional method of keeping it fun for both paying and free playing gamers, otherwise the game is trash...period...and there goes my only connection to the Star Trek Universe that I really enjoyed for so long...all because some devs with deep pockets wanted more out of people like me without deep pockets, well I say if that's how you're gonna be then F\_/Q'You... I don't know if its because you sold yourselves out to this Arc TRIBBLE or if you've just become so totally worthless inside that you just don't care about people who just want to have a good time, or if you're just so damn greedy that you can't see anything else...but this crosses the line... guaranteed if I feel this way then there'es at least a hundred thousand or more players that feel the same way... You have no honor, I turn my back to you...along with my fellow honorable trekkies who you've so royally disgraced... *spits*
On reflection honestly I still wait for actual statistical details on both the tier VI ships and the tier 5U ships before I go lighting any torches or anything.
I expected they would automatically upgrade lobi and lockbox ships (would be crazy not to given the cash made from lockboxes).
As long as the upgrades for the ships aren't too extortionate and my upgraded ships truly can compete with the new ships then Im cool.
Also curious to know the cost of the new C-store ships.
But no anger or panic from me for the most part yet.
Worry yes, plenty of that.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
The only concern right now I have about it is that some of the promotional ships from events, the Lock Box and the Lobi Store Starships get the free upgrades in DR but as far as most C Store and Fleet Starships. I smell segregation for the upgrade fee on those. People put just as much money and sweat equity (grinding) for Fleet Starships. And after how many seasons now for the T5-U upgrades that is just overlooked. I have been on the Tier 5 Ship Upgrades Thread debating about it and for one not sure how I am on the subject now regarding in continuing to play STO if they go through with this. Including at least Two Mirror Universe Lock Box Ships I have, one Fleet, and of course the Tempest, and Avenger I have in my arsenal. And the Fleet ship I have is the HEC. So guess have to be observant in September and of course consider a different course of action in October if they follow through including taking my saved money elsewhere to another MMO to game with friends on.
Sooo much worry...and because of a lack of information on the devs part...keeping us in the dark under the circumstances.. I'm very frustrated, they should care more about easiing all the concerns I have as a person who enjoys STO so far you'd think that would make them more interested in making me feel like I'm NOT getting screwed...but instead its the opposite...seems like they're clearly adding a whole butt load of features and admitting that it will be very difficult to get anything out of it unless you use a Visa... I can't help but have the feeling like if I play STO regularly after Delta Rising is released, I will simply have to ignore all the new content just because I won't "fit in" with all the elite players who had the money to spend on it... STO is my game of choice for F2P thats how I get my enjoyment out of it...but I don't like having all this Delta Rising TRIBBLE dangled in front of my face saying ooooohhh loook here look what you could have if you had money to blow on ONE game like the rest of the elites... Its going to cause much segregation and create even more issues with elitism than was there before...its just a bad road...and it gives me nothing but bad feelings at least I can still play Dabo and the old STF's but the dangling TRIBBLE in front of my face like this really makes me less interested instead of more interested... Good thing Destiny is almost out...it'll give me something to get my mind off of this...
You're getting a Tier 6 ship if you buy one outright or if you could upgrade your Tier 5 to Tier 6. Either route buys you a Tier 6 ship. People are less likely to spend money on a ship design they don't like. Personal preference on aesthetics is the important part. If there are no canon hero ships at full Tier 6, Geko may as well add Galactica and the Millenium Falcon. They're removing a huge part of what makes the game Star Trek.
^Truth.
But at the same time, it's not hard to see why they might think letting us sit in our favourite ships indefinitely, with just the occasional upgrade, might be a bad idea. After all, if we are that comfy where we are, then we have less incentive by try out other things.
I've been through plenty of ships in the search for that perfect one; but if I ever actually found it, then I'd probably just stop there (though, of course, I hope to do it anyway).

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is true for the general populace of the game. I'm referring to the parts I pointed out in the quote.
For ex., I'm very very comfy in my Excelsior. The ship fits like I glove to me, I take her into any and every STO content and it's the first ship I test newly released content, STFs, etc. with. Even PvP, albeit rarely because I don't really PvP much, even less on my Fed. chars. That's how comfortable and confident I'm in the ship. That didn't stop me from having another 14 chars, all with different ships, or owning every other Starfleet and Klingon cruiser/battlecruiser in the game.
Or on my Romulan, as an ENT fan, I absolutely adore my T'Varo. I bought the Starter Pack in LoR just for this ship and for the opportunity to have an ENT era ship at end-game. That didn't stop me from buying the D'Deridex, Valdore and Mogai, although neither of those made my Romulan step out of her T'Varo.
And I also love every single ship in the KDF lineup. Yep, even the Bortasqu'! (I'm probably the biggest fan of this ship in STO:P) They're that good to me. Still getting the new T6 Raptor though, it's very cool looking and something new.
Long story short, the point I'm making is that most of the people around here (which can be supoorted by the fact that starships are the main seller in STO) don't just settle for the one ship they love and turn a blind eye to the rest of the game. The reason I have 15 chars is because my Captains fly their one ship each, so when I want to use another ship I just make a new char with a unique story for that particular ship that will be used.
They have more chance of making me buy stuff if they let me upgrade the ships I love and have built stories around for the past 3.5 years to full T6 regardless of price, than constanly proverbially screaming "buy, buy, buy!!" in my ear. Because then when a ship I like comes (Excalibur for ex), I'll say - "Oh, I like this ship! I'm gonna buy it and buy 2 new char slots and make a new char for her!" if I'm happy with the game letting me play my favourite canon ships at T6 as well, just for the change of scenery and pace if nothing else. While if it comes while I feel I'm forced to buy, because I can't have all the other ships I like at T6, there's much more chance I'd say "So you made all my favourite ships second class to make me buy this? TRIBBLE that!".
Once again, if people are willing to buy a full T6 price in order to upgrade their favourite T5 ships to full and complete T6, the only thing that stands between them and fulfilling their wish is nothing more than a stupid arbitrary decision made for reasons that only Khaless knows.

That's exactly why people come on here and play, it's because of the ships. The fun of having one, building it, and taking it out into field testing it as well. I also have the Excelsior Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retroit, and played that ship for a good long time on another toon until they brought out the Avenger. Course if I don't have diplomacy Doff missions done I just grab that Excelsior with the Transwarp Drive and "Next Stop, Engage"! As far as the Tier VI ships, I don't mind them saling those to make money. It would be nice to finally have more announcements about it other than a in the dark bells and whistles overview. But as far as why people play this game as a whole, Shpoks made a good valid point.....thank you Shpoks.
Keep in mind that most MMO's don't offer sucha thing Cryptic is offering. Most do not allow you to upgrade previous tiers closer to the new tier being released. This is a unique move by Cryptic for this MMO which gives you an option, read option, to upgrade a previous tier, this is unheard of in MMO land.
Your analogy is not quite accurate. A ship is not a piece of armor dropped from Ragnaros you won in a raid. A ship is not a sword you crafted in Lion's Arch.
A ship is an avatar.
A ship is a mount.
A ship is a framework for the actual gear that is expected to be obsolete and changed.
A ship in STO is also a monetary investment.
An upgrade path is the least they could do, especially after 4 years of a static end game with no hint that their $25+ ships will be made worthless. It still remains to be seen how substandard the 5U stats are to determine how much of a double/triple dip scam the upgrade system is.
....

This, this and ... this!
With nearly 30 chars i have the same Starship twice only in 3 occasions, most of my primary chars (except for the romulans) are eligible for free upgrades, i would rather upgrade my old ships to T6 and buy 2 more char slots and one or two T6 Ships i like (the Fed Ship surely is not among these!) instead of these T5-U upgrade nonsense (and if you don't want to give other players the feeling that they have to carry you through the STF then "buy, buy, buy! our new... err ... SIX or SEVEN [from over... 50? T5] different T6 Ships)" , that's a dead end! What happens in 5 Months when T6.5 (Fleet-)Ships are out? T5-U-U?
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
You may not see it now .
You may not see it next to the T6 ships .
But when the T6 Lockbox ships come out ... , and you'll see their stats next to your T5-U ... -- then you'll understand the scam .
But by then it'll be too little , too late .
... looking forward to the Galaxy-R getting a 6th engineering slot ...
personally I don't much care what my ship looks like or what its called - a ship is just a method to get me from A to B and do a bit of battling.
what does annoy me as I have said repeatedly is paying for a half way upgrade on a t5 ship when others are getting a free equivalent upgrade.
if you have only one or two ships to pay to upgrade perhaps you are not too bothered but when you have a 9 ship set that already cost you 10k of zen and an upgrade that could cost you as much as $90 that's just OTT.
so many have said just upgrade 1 of the set for each faction and my answer is why?
I didn't buy 9 ships only to use 3 when I upgrade I want to upgrade them all so I can use them all the same.
people keep calling the upgrade fee a micro transaction $90 aint no micro transaction and neither is $45.
if players with a ship pack of 3 or 9 cant get a free upgrade or a full upgrade at least offer a trade in for a T6 ship.
as it stands I would gladly exchange my 9 pack for a discount on 3 T6 ships.
I know, aint gonna happen, I know.
its a shame cos they were nice looking ships and I enjoyed flying them for the last few months but I suppose some would say I`ve had my moneys worth so move on, it doesn't matter if I never use them again.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I'm sorry, but I don't think this is true for the general populace of the game. I'm referring to the parts I pointed out in the quote.

Hmm... there's a point. I only have 4 chars myself, so my perspective would be a little different.
I wonder if that's where the main divide is between players who are OK with it and players who aren't.
Without knowing what the T6 powers and boff abilities are there is no way to determine how viable/obsolete tier 5 ships will be.
One extra boff slot or an extra console can make a world of difference, and given that they want this stuff to sell, I imagine it'll be huge. I mean look at ships right now, you can get either the 8-weapon 10-console Fleet Gal-R, or the 8-weapon 10-console Scimitar, where on paper the Scimitar's only significant advantage is the hangar (assuming the sing-core/rom-cloak balances out the energy loss, or at least supposed to balance out). And yet in performance those little changes add up to one ship being the game's redheaded stepchild and the other being the undisputed king. The 5U-vs-6 differences will probably end up the same way, little things here and there that add up to "go 6 or go home," particularly when your lead dev subscribes to the "OP sells" philosophy. I have zero faith in 5U-vs-6 being anything close to balanced.
sorry doctor but i feel your a little off and very down talky to those that dont share your WHO CARES attitude you have about this .
i cant tell you how many times ive changed gear in this game , and by gear im talking about the stuff that goes into SLOTS , the ship for all intense and purposes isnt gear but the slots where gear goes , like your captain on the ground , as you level you get more slots etc . but you pick the End appearance of how that looks just like armor sets in the tailor, Ship is a extension of how your character looks in space . For YEARS now your choice of END game space avatars where your gear goes which you could choose to fly all sorts of end game ships to suit your fancy . from lockbox ships to plenty of 3 pack and unique ships . the point is this ITS really been too long since the end game is Tier 5 , with the odd additions of singly added slots to what would be considered tier 5.5 ships .
while im all for new choices for what your end game in space avatar looks like , what bothers me is that the Obvious power LEAP not Creep but LEAP these new ships bring . and the unfairness of the upgrades go , Why should someone with one tier 5 or 5.5 ship get a free upgrade and someone with another tier 5 or 5.5 ship have to pay for?
how does one get a lockbox ship ? keys with zen, keys for EC or directly on Exchange for EC
How does one get a Z-store ship? with zen only .
granted you can get Zen with di trading ,but that is limited by your refining .
EC there is no real limit on making that , you can only get so many drops/time unit but there is no limit to how much EC you can cash in a day . from selling either to a vendor or on exchange.
those that have zstore ships have either spent money directly or waited for a set time to refine X amount of Dil to turn to zen . there is no EC option for these ships
fleet ships have either zen or EC purchase for the modules plus the Gate of Fleet Credits
none of the above really deserve to be treated differently for tier upgrades , either they all pay for a upgrade or they all get it for free . to do otherwise is unfair .
the only ship i could agree to a free upgrade over the others is the LTS/ 1000day vet ships , that should be a perk for buying a LTS IMO
the main issue with this subject is the amount of time that its taken STO to increase the tier . the way that the upgrades are handled is another . players like me dont just have 1 ship reused for every toon , we use at least 1 ship PER toon , if not more depending on what we gear for . so that adds up pretty quick , on ppl that have at least 1 FED, ROM or KDF. I personally have 4 toons each with there own ships that have been purchased upgraded Etc . some have only upgraded the gear in the slots, others to fleet or some other new hotness . regardless all my toons stayed competitive. with this T6 system i dont see how without spending alot of money in ships i dont care for .
just because you can take a tier 3 into a ESTF doesnt mean you should .
I can't say I am exactly thrilled with this--it turns out, though, that it is validating my decision to use one ship class across multiple characters (the Vesta specifically), as well as a couple of special ships. As such I will only need to pay to upgrade for a single ship class.
What I do need to know is, on C-store ships that came in packs, such as if I bought the Vesta pack, will the T5-U fee be paid once for all ships in that pack (so all three Multi-Mission vessels paid for at once), or will I have to pay triple the cost, one for the Vesta, one for the Rademaker, etc.?
But I would like to add my voice to those saying they would be willing to pay for a FULL T6 upgrade instead of the T5-U thing. A T6 Vesta retrofit would be absolutely awesome for me, and at least in my case if need be, I can use variants of it across all of my main toons because I am that comfortable flying it, and can choose whichever one out of the Vesta pack best suits that toon.
I also admit...with what the lockbox ships cost in money or grinding, those should have gone straight to T6. Granted, I am at least pleased that I do not have to pay for T5-U on them, but I think what would be fair would be that on a lockbox/event ship, the same fee that would convert any other ship to 5-U should convert them up to full T-6. That I would consider a fair deal and be willing to pay for.

to pvp players
this is where you need a good pvp matchmaker, so when you go into a pvp match you are pited against others who have a simmilar overall level of stats taking into account their ships/consoles/weapons ect or in the case of gound combat ground weapons of course.
then it just boils down to who is the best player or stratagist that will win out.
that way all the t6 ships can pvp against each other as can all the t5u and t4 and so on right down to t1 if you like.
or you could find that there is a t6 player in a match with t5u if the t6 weapons ect are naff and the t5u`s have top gear, then you could go and brag that you went up against a t6 and still kicked b*tt.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

You may not see it now .
You may not see it next to the T6 ships .
But when the T6 Lockbox ships come out ... , and you'll see their stats next to your T5-U ... -- then you'll understand the scam .
But by then it'll be too little , too late .
... looking forward to the Galaxy-R getting a 6th engineering slot ...
what does annoy me as I have said repeatedly is paying for a half way upgrade on a t5 ship when others are getting a free equivalent upgrade.
if you have only one or two ships to pay to upgrade perhaps you are not too bothered but when you have a 9 ship set that already cost you 10k of zen and an upgrade that could cost you as much as $90 that's just OTT.
so many have said just upgrade 1 of the set for each faction and my answer is why?
Hmm... there's a point. I only have 4 chars myself, so my perspective would be a little different.
I wonder if that's where the main divide is between players who are OK with it and players who aren't.
I have zero faith in 5U-vs-6 being anything close to balanced.
i cant tell you how many times ive changed gear in this game , and by gear im talking about the stuff that goes into SLOTS , the ship for all intense and purposes isnt gear but the slots where gear goes , like your captain on the ground , as you level you get more slots etc . but you pick the End appearance of how that looks just like armor sets in the tailor, Ship is a extension of how your character looks in space .
That I would consider a fair deal and be willing to pay for.

this is where you need a good pvp matchmaker, so when you go into a pvp match you are pited against others who have a simmilar overall level of stats taking into account their ships/consoles/weapons ect or in the case of gound combat ground weapons of course.
then it just boils down to who is the best player or stratagist that will win out.
that way all the t6 ships can pvp against each other as can all the t5u and t4 and so on right down to t1 if you like.
or you could find that there is a t6 player in a match with t5u if the t6 weapons ect are naff and the t5u`s have top gear, then you could go and brag that you went up against a t6 and still kicked b*tt.
