With the announcement that the new T6 ships will be available to captains at
level 50, then progressing to 60 with the captain, i find myself thinking that
perhaps we will be getting some new uber T6 ships and maybe just updated
current top tier vessels. Part of what makes this game what it is, are the iconic
ships we all love to fly, effectivly removing them from game at level 50 seems
odd and would also remove the desire to purchase the current top tier ships.
Adding to my speculation is the new, well known, ship to arrive in C-Store this
Thursday, why bring out a new current spec ship this close to an expansion?

besides, and I'm getting somewhat tired of posting this. people can do end game content in tier one ship in white mk Xs. true those people tend to be really really good. but tier 5 should be fine for anything coming keep one new ship for elite runs or if they do something new any actually make content hard. fly your favorites in older stuff, which will still be 90% of content. or just for fun.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
You keep forgetting, at Vegas, Cryptic specifically said, they are addressing this. And harder more challenging content is coming with the expansion.
If they make good on that, then the differences in ship tiers will have a huge impact. And lower tier ships will be obsolete.
And the fact that the content will be more challenging does not mean it will require advanced gear. Challenging could mean a lot of things - such as requiring more teamwork or more players per event: 8/10/12 man events.
STO is a very casual-friendly game. They are not going to make it too hard for those players.
i would love some 'extra hard mode' instances, i know we can drop gear quality and tier
to get something like this, but i always feel thats like throwing away all the grinding you've
done to get traits and gear.. and well, once you've done all that you kinda want to use it.
i must admit though, all the speculation is pretty fun. i'm pretty sure, as with LoR, there will
be some form of expansion packages, with no faction (or so they say) it will be interesting
to see what they have in mind to part us from some money.. other than the ships ofc
sometimes i think this is, at once, the best and worse thing about the game, great that it
keeps it accessable for casual players, but a right royal pain in the rear for the harder core
players. you are probably right though, it makes more financial sense to maintain current
difficulty, and just increase the complication of encounters. time will tell i guess
STO is like a console game: you spend all your money up front, get a few months of enjoyment out of it, then put it away and move on to something else - occasionally popping back, but it is not really designed to keep players here forever.
FTP is an ADD money-grab.
I don't think that's going to happen. Part of what they revealed today was the ship progression system where through a couple of ways T6 ships start off as something analogous to what we have now but then grows into their final, uber, versions. Why wouldn't they add this to current ships (as otherwise they loose a huge block of content people are demonstrably willing to pay for, ie. everything that's presently in the c-store and lock boxes)?
The new T6 ships are probably going to take the most advantage of the new systems (being specifically designed for it), but I highly doubt they'll actually be the only ships using them (because by design they seem like a way of accommodating older ships while still having a new tier.)

thats pretty much my line of thought, todays blog had this..
Its important to note that while these ships dont always feature a Specialist Bridge Officer seat,
all of the Tier 6 ships launching with Delta Rising will feature at least one of these special seats
maybe thats a hint towards upgrade of current top tier to a T6 equivalent, just without the
new specialist seat and access to the new, 2nd set, of abilities from the special Boffs. i can
see the new scaling system easily working on current top tier ships, with the JHAS likely going
to get the full package deal. cost will be involved no doubt, maybe that will be part of an
expansion package??
True. Which is why I keep adding the caveat about if they make good on that. I'll believe it when I see it. But they do keep hinting and teasing that they are going to do it. We'll see.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's something fair that allows us to continue to enjoy our t5 ships as viable end-game choices but still allows t6 ships to be the creme of the crop so to say.
Probably not a package (though I could easily see the new T6 ships being the only ones having the special boffs.)
An expansion package (like the R+D package or Doff boxes) would imply that they're going to add an elaborate new system with a plethora of new items with various rarities that you would want to continuously to get the rarest/best stuff. There's only 5 levels to the T6 ships and leveling is probably going to follow a very certain pathway (to let the devs control balance and design). You only need a single item (like a fleet ship module) or a resource project (entirely analogous to a rep, fleet, or crafting project) in order to gate that.

Because it's probably going to be the Constellation Class, a ship they know people have wanted and are looking for since the little saucer slip, a ship they know they will make money on when ship purchases are near a halt while waiting for DR.
So it's to be a F.Y. to Klinks and RomKlinks then? ...No, My guess is it'll either be the DSD or the Temporal Ship.
my wild guess is in season 10 or 11 they will add ship mastery to tier 5 ships though a upgrade token. at least to level 4 which as they said is the same for alll ship of the same type. that screams easy way to improve old ships to me.
I'm betting then plan to add it in x2 but something will go wrong. because when dooes it not.

This screams "cruiser commands 2.0" (though hopefully not secondary deflectors 2.0.) The new T6 ships are probably the first wave to test the principle and with a later update we'll see the "up to level 4" standard upgrade stack applied to each respective ship type at T5 (probably as a freebie, this seems like a very standard package that I doubt they're going to expect we do without.) The new ships will have that extra level 5 and the ability to use the new boff abilities to make them special, while T5 ships get enough to bring them up to a playable level for level 60 content.

T6s get passive buffs to thier ships as they get higher level and a special trait unique to thier ship type at ship mastery level 5.
T5s, and this is just a guess, will get stuff that t6s start out with, and a few passivesm
So maybe at Ship Master (for future just SM), level 1 you get increasing hps based on new level unlocked, then level 2 its a new universal console slot, then its level 3, its some kind of passive, then level 4 extra bridge officer slot, then another passive for level 5 SM for tier 5 ships.
Weather or not t5s get Ship Mastery or not its a safe bet they'll get hps increased, a new bridge officer slot, a new console slot, and the ability to use ship traits.
Also while Ship Mastery gives certain traits at level 5 SM, I'm betting it will not be the only way to get ship traits. Can you say lockbox? Or even in rare cases mission rewards. There might even be a generic few just to get you started.
Its the Ship Mastery passives that could be a wedge between t5 and t6 potentional, more then hybrid ship bridge officership. If they give t5s something to compensate for that it will be fine.
Oh and I'm betting Planeia Utopia Report listed on the up coming blog posts will be the post that explains t5 upgrading.

Keep dreaming. T6 ships will outclass T5 in even more profound ways with this mastery skill. I was expecting Cryptic to release their usual bombshell and I was not disappointed. It is not enough the stats disparity, console and extra boff. T6 will now level up too.
*facepalm*
If I still cared I might be angry. Now I am just going to enjoy the juicy tears when you find out T5 is completely utterly obsolete. But yes ... Cryptic will do you the honor of letting you still use the ship you paid 20-25 -> or however much people spent on lock box / lobi ships.
Trolololololol!

tell BSGO that they made a game that chases away any new player within the first hour of play time....if they last the first 15 minutes lol
They level from Tier 5 (increasing with player level and mastery) and from what Nightken posted all but the last level of the mastery system follows a progression that's standard to the ship type. How could cryptic NOT retroactively add thse to all existing T5 ships? They've gone out of their way to design T6 as a scalable system that could be applied across the board to everything we own now when with much less effort they could have just made T6 as a simple, static, boost to stats and slots.

Well for starters let us hold off on the doom and gloom in regards to the ships, we haven't seen the upgrade system yet. I know it sucks that our upgraded tier 5 ships will have no ship abilities, but that may change.
I for one will wait until the upgrade system is up and running before I pronounce judgment.
That's what we heard when they announced X2. And then after the forum raging ... which I enjoyed thoroughly by the way. Anyways, I don't really care anymore. When T6 and all this other TRIBBLE comes into X2 ... that kills PvP for me which was the last reason I played.
Now I am going to enjoy some forum PvP and teasing those who still have blind faith in Cryptic. When that gets tired I will take a break for a long while.
And no you can't have my stuff ... it is all bind on character. :P
- Judge Aaron Satie
Blind faith? Bah. What I like about Cryptic is that they try to find intelligent solutions to big problems. Those don't often work (see. try) but its good to see the attempt made for an aging game that's struggling against its own botched development. However much fodder the resulting mess hands those who have a compulsion to whine (because of what attitude that allows them to take with a professional entity in a public space) its still good to see in this industry because it shows that interesting things can happen for games in between the stupidly vaunted AAA and, on the other side, "indie" space.
All of it? You've got to have one of those anniversary extinguishers lyng about. :P

I would try to argue with you ... but the run on sentences are giving me a headache.
+1 to your skill - "resist logic"!
- Judge Aaron Satie
Actually Cryptic did a job on all the fans and those who spent money on this game. The fact that you can't see that makes me feel sad. I would try to explain it to you but somehow, I think you would resort to name calling. So I will leave it at we will have agree to disagree.
Gosh ... where is Iconian when you need him!
- Judge Aaron Satie
What logic?
This isn't even a discussion. You made one leading comment about cryptic and I responded "Well what we have here is TRIBBLE but it's compelling TRIBBLE" to hit one tangent with another (and possibly lead into a comparison with MST3K which always makes me happy.)
Its certainly the most productive thing that could be said given the starting material (besides nothing but that's boring). :P

this makes way more sense to me than dumping on T5 as some have suggested, from
a players and developers perspective. lets be honest, people will buy the new
T6 ships regardless of what they set in place for T5, but if they do go this way there will
be far less grief and tears, people will get to stay in the ships they want and i'm pretty
sure many of those people will still buy a T6 ship even after levelling their loved T5 to 60.
What makes no sense to me is that only the JHAS will get the royal treatment though. The Voth Bulwark falls under the same category as the JHAS in terms of rarity. Something has to give, but the lack of info from the devs causes massive confusion.
