Fed/Rom Aceton Assimilator Tooltip Shows more Drain than actual drain

edited January 2015 in PC Gameplay Bug Reports
I'm not sure if this is on purpose or not, but the Aceton Assimilator tooltip shows the drain of them to be:

Drain=15*(1+(0.005*Flow Capacitors))

while the actual drain you get upon a ship with no power insulators is always 15 per system regardless of your flow capacitors skill.

Tested on a 1 vs 1:
Target has 0 power insulators (See power levels pre drain): http://tinypic.com/r/kc0bie/8
Drainer's Aceton Assimilator tooltip (Shows -41.8 drain): http://tinypic.com/r/bfj9mr/8
Target being drained by 1 AA (Only -15 drain): http://tinypic.com/r/a49if/8
Target being drained by 2 AA's (Only -30 drain): http://tinypic.com/r/xni5g4/8

This had been reported before, but nothing came of it.
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=482941<-They noticed it wasn't working as before, but no clear tests
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=289701<-Here they actually tested it and saw it wasn't working

Note: Tooltip shows the effect as a drain per second, but it's actually acting like a flat drain. A real drain per second would be Tyken's Rift.

In my test, it showed the "reverse power drain" stacking 25 times, and still only 15 total power drain per system. Having said this, 25 stacks would be way too much if the drain actually worked correctly. I wouldn't let it stack more than maybe 4 times given its effectiveness and that you can deploy 2.

Welcome to known issues that fell through the cracks, hence the complaints about it.

We will be bringing the Tribble server down for maintenance to apply a new update.

Known Issues:
  • Aceton Assimilator: More than 2 active debuffs on a target does not increase past the 1st drain.

    Hi Frost:

This is a bug on ALL Aceton Assimilators (Sorry for the misleading title, I don't have the KDF version and didn't know about past reports) from back in January 2012 (See http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=3942224&postcount=1) that was listed as a known issue in a Tribble patch notes, but never fixed.

As I say in the detailed original post, while I'd like it fixed, I do have to say fixing it and leaving the stacking as-is (It stacks a whopping 25 times!) would make them severely OP as far as the power drain goes. Given the drain per second is much greater than a Tyken's Rift 3 or the Voth Palisade console, I wouldn't let it stack more than 5 times (even that is a bit harsh IMO). Again, borticus or hawk could look into it, but fixing this bug and letting it stack 25 times would make players left and right complain about the power drain.

P.S. Geez, I used up my 2,500th post. Damn it! Guess the flow caps calculator I made will be a random post.

It is Monday, hope you devs had a good weekend.

    Bumping up.

    How to replicate easily.

    1) Take two toons into PvP, making sure the target had 0 power insulators skill and the other has high flow capacitors and the Aceton Assimilator console.

    2) Observe the listed power drain in the tooltip and use AA on the target, the target's power will:

    a) Only drain 15 power, not the listed one
    b) You'll see the debuff stacking, but no additional power drain.

    Complaining about stolen tech?

They're not going to fix it. You're not getting your -39.4 power drain just for dropping it. You're already OP. Just let it go. Enjoy the -15 power drain. If it's been broken for 4 years, it will stay broken...

Personally I wish you find a new fighting style :P.
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.

The problem I have is that they actually acknowledged it needed fixing once, and never got to it.

Heck, and that's just the stacking. The tooltip drain not matching the actual drain is a whole other bug.

Please fix this since it's very broken on ALL Aceton Assimilators since S7. See OP for details. Used to be a release notes known issue in Jan 2009.

I cannot myself say how broken they might be, but I have had it grind borg vessels to a screeching halt, since they released them for the FED/ROM!

Mine don't grind anything to a halt. Since this is going nowhere, I'll just post 3 screen pics next time to make my point easily.

Today I'd like to add the visual guide to the bug. Hopefully this helps speed things along.

Target has 0 power insulators (See power levels pre drain): http://tinypic.com/r/kc0bie/8

Drainer's Aceton Assimilator tooltip (Shows -41.8 drain): http://tinypic.com/r/bfj9mr/8

Target being drained by 1 AA (Only -15 drain): http://tinypic.com/r/a49if/8

Target being drained by 2 AA's (Only -30 drain): http://tinypic.com/r/xni5g4/8

So in the end, not only the drain doesn't stack (says per second), it doesn't drain the advertised amount on the tooltip.

Well, with this proof I suppose than, what I meant by grinding them to a halt, was from the constant radiation damage they take, since 9/10X the Borg don't do anything about them!

Overall, yeah it needs a fix, but the level of drain would seem just a tad OP, at those numbers.

Meaning no matter how good of a PI skill you have, you would still be drained completely dry in time.

Yeah, I did say that in my OP which is why I suggested limiting the stacking if they fixed the stacking. Seems prior to S7, players were actually getting that drain which explains the "put it on a borg gate and fire away" comment in the old threads from KDF players.

I forgot to mention, that we could be reading into the per sec. drain thing wrong.

Meaning it drains a pre-set number every second, like currently, but otherwise yes it needs fixed, so it truly benefits from our FC rating!

Example would be, based on your example of say some -48 to all subs, for every second they are being drained, they would lose only the same 48 points (not 48+48+48+48+etc.), until they move out of range, or the AA is destroyed/expires.

This times 1000. I don't see any fixes to anything older than 6 months. Ancient bugs will remain forever. The sad truth.

And here I remember very specifically Frost mentioning that every day he logs in, reads all the reports in this forum, and then flags and comments on the ones that need to be fixed. Maybe he needs a new prescription for his glasses or something.

I'm sure they know it might break the game if fixed. Really, I supposed to be draining 39.4 power with mine. Combined with Tyken's rift-- I dun drained a whole team...

NPC's would be bricked by it permanently with no possible defense against the console... Cryptic may have many reasons not to fix it, or they just don't know how to.

Funny to see fed trying so hard to get stolen KDF tech fixed. I giggle.

Not that hard, just make it stack only twice or thrice per each AA. The Voth Aceton console and Plasmonic leech both have stack limiting code in them.

@1. Obviously Cryptic don't wanna touch it for reasons classified... Cryptic has a history of FEAR when it comes to draining. Siphon drones Nerfed into oblivion and Tachyon drones Blasted into oblivion-- Extremely useless. They should be delete and replace with something better. As for the AA, I don't think they will ever respond. It's like asking for a trip to Area 51. Just no comment from anyone... :(

@2. Yeah the changed my pic. I really love nerdy chicks in red frame glasses (with braces lol), but I wanted something that matched me and my Ego.

@CRYPTIC... At least say something. Anything. Hell, say hi. :)

Not to derail this, but someone used me as a test dummy for the siphon drones yesterday and they work pretty well. If you stacked on the drains, it would be pretty nasty.
