    There is nothing that requires digital items to be obsolete; just as the game itself is updated, the items within it can be. There is no legitimate reason to neglect updating your 'old' digital products other than milking profit out of new ones.

    Just because it's common practice does not mean it's the best practice, here or anywhere else.

    We have almost no facts, and until they write up some actual information and we don't have to go by hearsay from the Las Vegas, we can only hope for the best and fear the worst.

    Maybe the Las Vegas Priority One podcast will shed some light on issues, but... I doubt it will be that exhaustingly informative as players want. You can't ask for clarification or further details when listening to a recorded interview.

    What requires a digital item to be obsolete is indeed that a business exists to turn a profit, or 'milk' a profit if you prefer. The way most game companies do this is by releasing new games. The way MMO companies do this is by creating new content for the current game. The analogy to cars is not perfect but it's serviceable.
