Clearly, the new Bridge Officer type is... Ship's Counselor!
Special abilities:
Is always there to 'advise' the Captain.
Increases damage with Ramming Speed.
Close, I predict it will use the fourth officer type already coded in the game. Look at your doffs. Down beneath your tactical, engineering and science corps there is already a fourth type of officer. Civilians. Like Troy, Tess, and Neelix.
As for my feedback, I can't listen to the podcast so until there's a transcript I have nothing to react to.
We want to hear all your thoughts on the announcement of Delta Rising! Good? Bad? Somewhere in between?
First of all, THANK YOU for posting the audio for BOTH the panel AND the post-panel Q&A. Most helpful, for people like me who didn't go.
Secondly, I am looking forward to the expansion. And I APPLAUD the the STO team for offering the ability to do SOME sort of upgrading on our current ships. While we don't know much about this now, this seems like something they have intentionally made sure to emphasize as a REALITY. It WILL happen, despite the restlessness of the forums. (And please, correct this if I am wrong, since you guys were there, doing the interviews.)
No info presented immediately, but at least someone acknowledges that info needs to be released. I guess it's an improvement.
EDIT: Yes, I saw the link. I'm just commenting on the delay.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
If the crafting system upgrade metrics is still crappy by October. You can almost gurantee it will be involved with ship upgrades.
Actually, Geko said the exact opposite. And since the lead producer was sitting next to him when he said it... sure sounds like crafting will NOT be tied to whatever upgrade system they have.

My opinions? Well 1st of all, this episode hit me the hardest, as to the reality here in the forums, which is full of misinformation, I came to realize that it is not always correct what the forum posts say, hearing exact word for word response from the devs gave me an assurance that, Expansion 2 will be something good. And that I need to start paying more attention to what the devs say instead of taking the rumors/opinions of others...
Now the most exciting things about the whole announcement, was all of it... from Mk14 to T6 ships to new skill advancement... wow.... just wow...
Neelix was so maligned that the NX's chef didn't even have a name.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
Thanks for kindly posting this. I got a chance to listen to it through out the day. All I can say is, I'm looking forward to the Expansion. And I think it will be a lot of fun. Now I need to hurry and get my KDF and Romulan up to my Fed so they will be ready for it as well. Since I RP, so I feel like each one needs to see that side of story.

Deanna Trio was not a Civilian, she dress informally, until she was order to wear a regulation uniform, but yeah she was military and in fact high ranking, Commander by Season 7 and the Movies were she ended up the Diplomatic Officer aboard the Titan, instead of Councillor.
Hold on, now. You're giving me flashbacks of Total Recall...

I thought it was a horrible idea to introduce massive paranoia into the system - justfied or not.
They could just have shown some screenshot and artwork or some story related stuff without mentioning t6 at all.
When you detonate a nuke no one is going to even notice a few fire crackers over in the corner.
I expect them to be a lot smarter and a lot more professional and for their sake, for the sake of the game it's a shame for everyone involved in a lot ways.

When I get home I'll have to rewatch a couple episodes, but I thought I remembered her being called a civilian that had starfleet rank. But both memory alpha and star trek.com back you up. Wonder who I was thinking of.
Or I'm just confused. Which does happen
Either way, good catch, thanks for keeping me honest.

You might be thinking of Guinan. Guinan actually was a civilian.
The fact that we will reach the rank of Fleet Admiral/Dahar Master... it feels a little too soon. I mean, what titles are left for future rank ups?
If you believe the Devs (who also said no T.6 ships), then this is the last level / rank .
As for myself, I am highly concerned that with the level cap increase, will we see the year long grind for T.5 starbases go down the drain ?
Perhaps not right away, but as sure as the Bug & Scimitar made it into the game, you can bet on it that T6.5 ships are not too far off, and they will put the nail into the "refurbished" T5 ships .
There was a lot announced at STLV, virtually all of which was overshadowed by the silence on the issue that seems to be consuming the forum.
Tier 6 ships.
More specifically, what the exact process entails to upgrade tier 5 ships.
Without more certainty than a mere 'you'll be taken care of', its hard to justify spending any resources on tier 5 ships knowing the tier 6 ones will probably eclipse them soon.
The anxiety in the playerbase over this issue is entirely predictable.
Sadly, days after the initial announcement, we have heard nothing.
The problems with PR atm are threatening to overshadow the message the devs want to send out.
This just sums it up. They say trust us, but everyone knows there is no reason to. So everyone freaks out. Entirely predictable and preventable if they just had announced what happens with our ships. This is what ppl invested A LOT of money into, ships are the main spending point in this game so hopefully they tell us whats going on asap.

Until they need to supplement the Key purchases again. Then we'll see another level increase and ship tier roll out. If this Expansion will teach Cryptic anything. Its that when they want to negate peoples purchases and herd them into new ones. They can simply roll out a new expansion with new ships.

Wesley Crusher was a civilian with the acting rank of Ensign.

Adding to this... (and, btw, this isn't a rant. It's a suggestion to take seriously.)
To the Devs: It would be terrific if you could please publish a one-page blog post, summarizing some of the news shared at STLV.
Call it a pre-announcement. Call it a teaser of news to come.
I don't doubt that you're sitting on the 40+ blogs (as mentioned at STLV) because you want to issue a formal announcement, then build momentum for the X2 launch.
Frankly, you need a serious marketing/P.R. communications plan, NOT shooting-from-the-hip, 'we'll announce when WE (Cryptic) feel it's time.' The cat is out of the bag. Please start issuing proper communications to your players (aka customers).
As for the topic, I have mixed feelings about it. New stuff to do sounds nice, I'd just like to know if we can get Tier 6 versions of our favorite, iconic hero ships. I do not want to be forced into Cryptic designs for Tier 6.

POST THOSE BLOGS, DEVS!!!
No, you're right, though they didn't seem at liberty to go into greater detail yet it was stated multiple times that existing top tier ships wouldn't be obsoleted. It doesn't sound like ships will be upgraded via crafting at this time but I got the impression that some existing Mk XII gear will be upgraded that way. In a recent interview Al did allude specifically to crafters being able to upgrade MACO sets as an example. At the time we assumed from very rare to ultra rare was as far as the comment went though it could have been just as applicable to Mk XII/Mk XIV. Bit of speculation on my part but a pretty safe bet I think.
Glad we got the audio up in time for Monday and also looking forward to more info!
first i just want to thank the P1 crew and Trek Radio for the coverage , i really didnt have the chance to really listen in for the whole time for STLV.
as for the X2 , its really too early to tell if this is going to be acceptable to the veteran player base or not on how they implement this new tier of gear and how it integrates with what we have already spent money and time on . though i have a bad feeling in my antenna .
as for a new sector to explore , that sounds good , the inclusion of deta quadrant species , another interior great . will the pros out way the cons . uncertain
The entire team from Trek Radio, Priority One and STOked Radio would like to thank you all for your continued support of our team coverage from STLV 14 and the STO dev panel & Q & A.
First, thank you all for the coverage. Second, am I the only one that thought it was messed up when Geko was asked if the current reps would be moved from being lvl locked at 50 to being locked at lvl 60 then turn around and answer by saying they were not going to add any tiers to the reps, and before he could stutter his way to the finish, I think it was Salami, had to cut him off and correctly answer the question?
Yes, however that wasn't the post I was replying to. The poster I replied to had said there was a new exploration system coming. According to what was said at the con, exploration was "something they would like to get back at some point", as in nothing was being done on it. Hence, my question to the poster.
I guarantee you the poster of the post you where replying to is very well known to me and as clueless about the topic as I am which is why he asked
I have not heard/viewed the con itself. I just went by the word "Exploration" mentioned in the thread about stuff Cyptic talked about on the con and assumed there was more to it than sometimes in the future maybe.

Not really. Geko misunderstood the question and answered the question as he understood it. Chances are he was expecting someone to ask him if the reputations would be extended past 5 tiers, and didn't anticipate the other one.
I think it's fortunate that Salami was there and interpreted the question correctly, but I don't think it was "messed up."
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.

You sure?
I heard he was so impressed with Tovan Khevs reception that we are all going to get one.
Apparently he's seen absolutely no constructive feedback on Tovan, so therefore we are all happy as clams.
