There was a lot announced at STLV, virtually all of which was overshadowed by the silence on the issue that seems to be consuming the forum.
Tier 6 ships.
More specifically, what the exact process entails to upgrade tier 5 ships.
Without more certainty than a mere 'you'll be taken care of', its hard to justify spending any resources on tier 5 ships knowing the tier 6 ones will probably eclipse them soon.
The anxiety in the playerbase over this issue is entirely predictable.
Sadly, days after the initial announcement, we have heard nothing.
The problems with PR atm are threatening to overshadow the message the devs want to send out.
- Exploration
There is a new one comming. But besides that single word for the addon nothing is known. Would be nice to know if its a new procedual generated system; a genesis how it was intended to work so to speak. Or something different.
Here's a different question to consider, too:
During STLV, CaptainGeko (Al Rivera, Lead Dev) asked publicly for feedback about the Captain's Table.
One of the bigger issues plaguing Cryptic is the lack of understanding HOW Cryptic wants to receive the information, WHERE Cryptic wants players (aka customers) to provide it. (The STO Forum? Twitter? Facebook? ?)
As an example, feedback was solicited by the Devs for Season 9.5 DOff and Crafting UIs on the STO Forums. The result: CaptainGeko complaining to STOked Radio about "rants" from the playerbase on said forums. (In fact, detailed feedback was provided on the STO Forums, in an official Dev-initiated thread, but with very little acknowledgment from Cryptic.)
Q: Can Cryptic provide the format on how they'd like to receive input? A template (like the bug report format on the STO Forum)? A form? A specific location/thread? Some guidelines to make sure the players provide useful feedback? Followed by some ongoing Dev acknowlegments of the feedback.
And based on the Cryptic-solicited Season 9.5 DOff and Crafting feedback -- which Cryptic still won't fully acknowledge -- I hope Cryptic considers this. Having players start random forum threads isn't the answer. Cryptic needs to provide some guidance (and acknowlegments) here.
Please.
Thank you.
Mixed Reaction.
I'm happy there is more story and we are going into the Delta Quadrant. But hearing bout Tier 6 ships and Mk14 gear gave me a sour feeling in my stomach. Especially with Fleet, Reputation, and even new Crafting gear suddenly going obsolete.
And the other is Al's comments regarding the community at Las Vegas and in his STOked interview, effectively killed consumer confidence.
Well there is a thread on this, but a Transwarp Gate to any sector or homeworld, the Bartender having rare drinks or foods that can't be purchased anywhere in the game, perhaps unique missions. NPCs giving hints to storyline to come or storylines that never was.
Thank you for being present at STLV 2014. Your coverage of the STO Dev Panel is most appreciated. P1 hosts and Dev Panels were easily understood thanks to quality audio. This was a perfect compliment for better understanding of the weekends STO forum threads with player reports, images and speculation regarding the expansion.
All I say with regard to Delta Rising is, bring on those Dev Blogs!
Kobali is the race associated with the new homeworld.
The Dauntless will be added as a Heavy Tactical Science ship in Tier6.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles
I am excited for the level increase, skill updates, new boffs and more story content, but the shine was taken off with the T6 ship announcement and not enough info to support it.
I have also heard this Cryptic "we will be taken care of" before. It never ended well for us the playerbase..
As for the comment I made last week about the DOff assignment (which seemed to cause some confusion): Obviously, the assignment is designed to be a bit of a gamble. I don't mind that. HOWEVER, the way that the assignment is set up makes it almost not worth it to run. Starting the assignment is 1,000 dilithium. Apart from the gamble and a chance at school specialists, how is this assignment worth the cost? There are so many dilithium sinks in this game already, that 1,000 dilithium almost seems like it could be better spent on fleet projects, reputation gear, etc. Don't get me wrong, crafting SHOULD be costly in some aspects, like the dilithium needed for the higher tier equipment. Getting very rare materials with the current system is already very difficult. If I'm going to spend 1,000 of my hard earned dilithium on something, I want it to be worth it.
~Vice Admiral Saskia - U.S.S. Muenzuka (Dyson Science Destroyer)~
~Lieutenant General Kalinka - I.K.S. Kazami (Negh'Var Heavy Battlecruiser)~
~Vice Admiral Lorel - R.R.W. Aureus Aquila (Mirror Mogai Heavy Warbird)~
But I'm sort of mixed about the R&D DOFFs, because they are common and easily consumed in Fleet Projects.

What comments did he say about players at Las Vegas???
I hope people realize the alpha version is going be on Tribble in less then a month. So, pretty much the live version will be on Tribble in a month.
Then Cryptic should have given players less vague details because I can gurantee they have the alpha/live version almost ready and they are gauging players feedback.
I just recommend players not to buy any C-store or lockbox ships(That means no buying keys) until more details are made and/or the Tribble version is online with some of the new ships.
If the crafting system upgrade metrics is still crappy by October. You can almost gurantee it will be involved with ship upgrades.
Personally I love to see more of Gamma Quadrant as well.. with a Cardassian Bajoran Foundary theme etc. Maybe even be able to play Cardassian..
I would also love the idea to play a species as a member of the Delta Quadrant. I also hope this means more Borg missions... I would love to see new things with that.
My thoughts: I thought the communities reaction was a bit ridiculous and over the top.
Overall, i'm looking forward to seeing the new info and hope they start releasing it soon.
bout damn time.
Worries:
I ended up liking LoR much more than I anticipated, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I do hope there will be detailed dev blogs on the new content though; I hope explaining us the whys and hows will help diminish at least some of the forum "unpleasantness".

to be honest, calling it sheer toxicity isn't fair... most people posting are saying that we don't know anything, and that most is speculation.. and there has been a lot of good feedback and concearns.. further more, cryptics inability to present any information that could help at least provide some cohenrency to peoples concearns is just shocking.
but yes, there is a lot of concearn, is it toxicity, well id say no.. ive seen the forums very much worse. and they will get to toxicity...
but yeah, I was actually shocked at how calm most people have been discussing the information..
the paranoia is a problem, but that is a problem created by none other than cryptic.. in being "cryptic" about some of this, they are doing the opposite of what they think they are.. they think they are building hype and what not.. when infact, they are creating paranoia as a lot of people have legitimate fears reguarding some of the changes..
im not saying they need to release a blog that spills the beans on everything.. but providing us with some information that can put the discussions back on track couldn't hurt either..
Just upfront, there weren't that many surprises for someone who listens to you, G&T and STOked radio on a semi-regular basis. So X2 taking place in the Delta Quadrant and Garrett Wang's return as Harry Kim were all expected.
The biggest surprise at the beginning was the reveal that X2 is slated for october. That was definitely unexpected. The fact that we will reach the rank of Fleet Admiral/Dahar Master... it feels a little too soon. I mean, what titles are left for future rank ups? I think reaching the rank of Admiral would have done the trick for the time being. Besides, I was really hoping for the "away team in space" mechanic for Fleet Admirals. Where you supposedly get a couple of ships under your command assisting you like your BOffs do on the ground.
The new class of ships was a surprise. Just like the new class of BOffs. I would have liked more information on these topics. Tier 6 ships and Mk XIV gear on the other hand were to be expected with a level cap increase. And at this point I think more information would have been necessary.
You cannot seriously drop a bomb like that and then just not follow it up somehow. The cries that "Tier 6 ships are coming, everything I paid for is now worthless!!!!" were to be expected. That would have been the perfect time to post the dev blog about how upgrading your ship works. Or maybe putting Smirk or Trendy on forum duty to try and calm down some of the more worried people.
But no... Instead CrypticQuack and JHeinig (from STLV I think?) come here to try and douse some of the flames. Those two deserve a raise or medals or some form of recognition.
I just don't know what else to say. I'm looking forward to leveling my characters through some nice, fresh, qualitywise good story content. I'm looking forward to what kind of love they have planned for the Luna, the Nebula, the D'Kyr. But how Perfect World handled this or better how they didn't handle this at all yet, that is just baffling to me.
My comment:
Exactly WHAT announcement are you talking about, as I see none. I mean MMOs USUALY make a BIG DEAL about any content update (especially this 'Expansion' you reference) ON THE MMO's OFFICAL WEBSITE NEWS SECTION.
As of Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the time of this positing, I see:
- NO official announcement of an Expansion
- NO official information as to any specific mechanics of this Expansion you claim STO is receiving.
How, can STO players (who just play STO) be expected to comment on something that, if you look at the 'News' tab on the main STO/ARC website. hasn't been officially announced AT ALL?
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
Good point. However, my dislikes are:
- New story missions that will be held back until after release. So we'll get some, but then the rest will be held back.
- Level cap increase ends up at the same place without new goals once you hit the cap.
- Days later and not a single one of the dev blogs has been published.
It's a mixed message I've gotten thus far.
It's left me very very confused.
Ah yes, this one of my major beefs or concerns with Star Trek Online. The ranking system as you level up.
To be honest I hate the fact that you are Fleet Admiral.. or any rank over Captain, really. As a.. "hmm" Starfleet Officer my main goal is to reach the rank of Captain to once boldly seek where no man or alien has gone before. To command a ship... and Star Trek Online gives me that.
But then to continue on.. its not that interesting. Its like ok, but call me Captain or Commanding Officer.. plz.
It also causes a big problem when STO expands in their missions and so forth. The system just doesn't work IMO. Your level as you rank up should not be directly connected to your rank or title. That way it won't create "PROBLEMS" as DEVS gives more content after reaching fleet admiral or admiral. Because who wants to see a thousand or million of Fleet Admirals running around on ESD and the rest of the universe? It doesn't feel that realistic.. not so many reaches the rank of Fleet Admiral or Admiral in Star Trek world.. therefore it feels wrong.
Sure the ranking thing is nice a idea and I am sure there are people out there that wants to be fleet admiral but give people the option to rank up in name.. (that is, rank not being related what level of weapons you can use). They should connect your level to some type of service decorations (or whatever its called in navy languish and english). And after reaching a certain number of these you yourself can choose to accept a mission to make an official promotion of sorts.
Anyways just my opinion...
To be fair (I saw Al Rivera's/Captain Geko's comment on the STORadio TV Livestream); it's not that they'll be holding back story content and releasing it in parcels per se; the STO Dev Team actually believes that because the new content will be level gated, it'll take players a longer time to get to the levels needed to access the new content.
^^^
(Yes, I laughed hard at that comment, because I'm sorry, but unless they put Admiral Quinn's Promotion mission on a 20 hour cooldown timer, we'll have characters at level 60 who've burned through the new story content once (and have listened to all the new VO and cutscenes) 24 hours or less after the Expansion goes Live -- assuming of course the Holodeck server stays online for that period post launch.
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
The stuff they say in Las Vegas is public and official. The problem is that it's not found on the website.

They talk about that Tier 5 ships will stay viable for Tier 6, there will be an upgrade for them, but Tier 6 ships will still have something players want.
If I were to speculate, I think the new Bridge Officer type they announced (with no details on what it is) may be what the Tier 6 ships will have is more or higher level slots for for this new type.
You've changed. As much as you don't like me, I have to admit I like the "new" Armsman.
At least now you question Cryptic and where necessary you will show you're not please. Now you have started to use sarcasm when you're showing your not happy:P
What's next, out and out sedition?
Clearly, the new Bridge Officer type is... Ship's Counselor!
Special abilities:
Is always there to 'advise' the Captain.
Increases damage with Ramming Speed.
