it's more like they alter the model u bought, f.e. due to environmental upgrades to the model that are mandatory by law, and then make you pay for it while responsibility lays at the company!
the level to have a look on is the game, not the ships .
Can you blame them though? It is not like there is anything else to get excited over. Also ships are very expensive. So it is not one of those impulse buys that can easily be replaced. Don't forget that canon ships will fall even further behind since tier 6 will be all about Cryptic's Frankenstein models.
There is a lot to get excited over on the new expansion. We barely saw what they have coming out. Just only a few bits and pieces.
Yes I know ships are very expensive even the regular ones I get from the store is. Some ranging nearly $30 real money. Or several months of grinding Dil the way I play.
What most are upset is over news over T6 ships. The Devs have yet really told how your older ships will be upgraded. So most of the talk is speculation on how it will be done. So they are getting worked up over nothing. At at least wait for the Dev's Blog on it. It might only cost EC or Dil just to upgrade. Or a new Fleet project. Getting worked up over speculation is not worth it.
I don't know about the cannon ships falling further behind. I never spent the resources to have a Fleet ship. And so far my regular old ships has performed every well with what I do. Only enemy has gave me a real challenge was the Voth.

I don't expect to get an upgrade "for free", but a requirement such as "own the Fleet version and buy an extra Fleet Module for the new upgrade" would be fine, and would be in keeping with the kind of upgrading that we go through to get the Fleet versions to begin with.
I will gladly pay money for a Tier 6 Odyssey version any day. In fact the Odyssey T6 better be in there or at least a new style Enterprise if anything, she can't get left behind!
