Research and Development Weekend [Now Ended]

    Please revert back to being able to slot multiple XP projects. That nerf has diminished the enjoyment which could be gained from the crafting system.

    Guess i should have waited with those over dozen Boff slots and some ship slots i bought last week, right?
    TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
    Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

    Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

    Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
    It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
    THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.

    This, the grind is now horrible.
    Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...

    Is the rate of very rare mats higher than normal?

    Yeah I'm not wasting any resources on this rofl.

    Stuff like doff packs and these things are pretty much a scam imo.

    Hey Cryptic, is there some sort of tutorial for this new crafting system?

    I'm not normally dense, but I took one look at the R&D page when S9.5 launched and I just didn't grok. I don't get it. I don't find it intuitive at all. I'm not sure where to start or what to do...

    The last time you guys changed crafting (back around, I think S5), you had a neat little mission that walked us step-by-step through the process. Where can I find such for S9.5's R&D?

    As long as there is a 20 hour timer on the bonus xp project, the additional influx of materials is not going to mater. In order to power level the R&D system, you have to spend a whole lot of dilithium. During the R&D bonus materials weekend, the average player will have roughly three to four opportunities to launch the big xp project.

    *shrugs*

    Players will have a mess of materials, but the benefit of having them will not mater.
    Alternatively, Captains wanting to advance through Research and Development schools as fast as possible should seek out Harvest Nodes, located in mission maps throughout STO, which will not only disperse 2 extra R&D Materials each time they are used, but will also reward 10 Dilithium Ore and have a chance to give out a R&D Catalyst during this event.

    I do not mean to point out the possible flaws in the system, but...

    Simple version:
    1. Run a few PvE queues to get some crafting materials; Normal queues will work at first, since you really just want some Common materials
    2. Click on your Duty Officers menu, the icon with the three little heads below you Minimap
    3. Click on the R&D tab of your Duty Officers menu, furthest to the right along the top
    4. Click on an R&D Crafting School on the left of your R&D tab
    5. Use the scrollbar on the right to go all the way to the bottom of the list for that R&D Crafting School
    6. Click Begin, the button to the right of the last project in the list
    7. Click Start Task, the button to the bottom right of the project's planning menu
    8. Repeat every 20 hrs or so, adding a new Crafting School as additional R&D slots become available, for ~105 iterations



    Then ask how to make an item in the first Crafting School ;)

    Short version:
    1) Get materials off STFs or whatever you like like doff assignments
    2) Create components off those materials (The ones you need for what you want to craft)
    3) Create an item you want to craft using components.

    Warning: You'll feel like you're playing a Zynga game like Farmville with all the clicking, waiting, and dilithium speed-up buttons, but don't get confused, it's still STO.

    Hmm R&D weekend one weekend removed from dilithium weekend?

    Very shrewd and clever cryptic get us to grind loads of dil to waste on R&D weekend

    I wont be wasting my time nor dilithium on R&D not worth it either way

    But i have to hand it to the cryptic team this was quite clever and shrewd putting R&D weekend just after dilithium weekend.

    Yeah, you know... Similar to the bonus marks boxes in stfs, which drop once every twenty hours.

    Hope it will help me gain a little closer to my next level. With the 20 hour timer it won't help much. I guess it better than nothing.

    With how this crafting is set up. I won't be crafting stuff for a very long time. Since most of my characters is at Lv50. And I rather save up my stuff for them. Since you can level up rather fast so that gear won't last long. To worry about crafting at lower levels.

    Yup, double XP for four days notwithstanding, i think most of us are looking at months before we start actually crafting anything in earnest.

    I really think there needs to be items, craftable at low levels, useful at higher ones.

    Hypos, shields, batteries, that sort of thing.

    Perhaps a devices crafting track, with the simple devices available early and things like kit frames and modules later on.

    When I first saw (in-game) that the crafting research project was giving 9K XP instead of 6-7K, I thought it was a weak effort, but nevertheless an effort, to address the absurdly flawed design of the system.

    What a joke that it only lasts for one weekend...

    Are you telling me that my piles of VR Mk VI shields are not useful?

    Something not mentioned - does the Academy 1000 dilithium assistance request reward extra stuff ?

    Seems they forgot about this one ...


    Yes, I got +10 catalysts from nodes.


    Also, the dilithium reward from scanning is a "Chance".
