yes slot machine mechanics suck hard, like vacuum of space pulling the body out a pin hole kind of "suck", but they will stab us anyway, why not have some control how we get stabbed? since the "crack head quick money pocket pick" trend seems to be the "in thing" in MMO f2p games these days ...
I would like to see something like a faction lockbox that tailors itself to the person opening the box. Main prize could be a ship that the player wouldn't usually have access to. You could still have cross faction consoles and poss a few costume unlocks.
Failing that I would like to see a Caitian/Ferasen lockbox but that is purely because I play both
lock box or not. maybe gamma quadrant freigter with special R&D console where we could craft gamma quadrant comodities. there could be 2 ships with both of them (special consoles) special recipies for gamma quadrant weapons.
JJverse. No, wait! Put the phaser down. Just hear me out.
The main prize would be a JJverse Constitution-class cruiser. Tier 5, so all the T5 Connie people are happy. And tier 5 makes sense because the JJverse Federation seems a lot more advanced than the prime Federation. It would also have access to a Sovereign-style skin so people don't have to go around in an AR ship if they don't want to.
Lobi ship would be the Dreadnought-class (U.S.S. Vengeance). Dreadnought cruiser, obviously. Able to mount dual cannons, detect cloaked ships, etc. Likewise has an era-appropriate skin.
Other lobi rewards would be AR stuff: phasers, uniforms, maybe a cybernetically-enhanced boff like 0718. And a Jellyfish shuttle.
Disclaimer: I'm fully aware that Cryptic can't use JJverse stuff. This is all purely hypothetical.
If this ever happened (and it won't)... I would buy every single thing in this lock box.
The Son'a-themed box is interesting... Borg Lock Box may happen, but I don't think it will yet... the Kitty "litter" Box or Vulcan box... meh.
I also like the idea of re-releasing some boxes, but with updated stuff. Retire the old stuff (even if it's just for the initial run of the box), then return the old stuff AND the new stuff in box events. Doesn't seem like this would be that hard, since they dropped both Tal Shiar ships into that box during the Rommy Anniversary.
Of course, you can count on Delta Quadrant themed boxes... Kazon, Kremin, etc.
IMHO the next Lockbox will be Xindi II (we miss > half of them at the moment), but i like the Son'a theme idea.
If one of the next is from the cabbage-people i will skip that one (completely!).
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
I want a Husnock ship. Seems like the perfect thing for Lobi Consortium, considering the species is gone and their ships are just floating around in space.
If I had the ability to choose, I would pick a Borg lockbox, just to get one out there, and move past it. I would put a Sphere, Probe (the breadbox looking ship), and a diamond. In the Lobe store, I would put a liberated cube. However, it will not have the power or survivability of the Borg controlled cubes.
In fact, the Borg cube can have a console that will increase its effectiveness based on what class their allies are. For example, alone it is no better than one of the free ships at level 40. However, if there is one tactical ally in 15 Km of the cube, it will increase its damage output. Engineers will increase its survivability, and Science ships nearby will increase its effects of its science skills.
When there are more of a certain class within 15 Km of the cube, each one will affect the effectiveness of the cube. Though, if the others are cubes, then they will not add any boost, or the boost will be small. Also, if the console is not equipped, then they will have better hull than a free level 40 ship, but will not benefit from the allies near them like the console will.
It will be slower than most ships, and a console set can increase their speed. This will give players that want a cube to fly one, and at the same time not make them over powered. Also, it will encourage team work, or at least sticking close together as if they were working as a team.
Also, I would have them release an assimilated ship in the C-Store for each faction. However, they will be lower tier. The C-Store ships will have special consoles that can be used on any assimilated, or Borg ship.
After that was released, I would work on doing lockboxes that will incorporate different factions in the Delta Quadrant. And each one will have something that will give more exp for the crafting system.

The only box I'd pay for opening is the "Choice of Reward Lockbox". If you open it you can choose 1 Item from any existing Lockbox. Stop the stupid lottery and give us what we pay for.
Seeing that his beloved Alpha Quadrant is still like "OMFG TEH ICONIANS!!1!11!", Q has decided to sprinkle some omnipotent juju on the situation.
With some luck, a captain will get a chance to unlock:
1 Cross Faction Ship:
- Feddies will get the mythical Hoh'Sus BoP (Cloak disabled but accepts the Defiant cloak console).
- Romulans will get the Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit (with integrated Ablative Generator).
- KDF will get the Scimitar (with integrated Thalaron Pulse).
OR
2 Random Weapon crates from previous Lockboxes,
AND
2 Random Traits (1 Space, 1 Ground).
OR
1 Megapack of the various pools and claims (1 of each).

Is the motto of Star Trek "to boldly go where no-one has gone before," or "to boldly repeat our steps and stick to known paths?"
How about more totally alien species? TRIBBLE canon, invent something. Or if you must stick to canon, explore Star Trek's extended universe - but be creative with that. Currently, the entire game is very Earth-centered - we're the Federation, here's our neighbors the Klingons, and our other neighbors the Romulans, and our other neighbors the Cardassians. But... what's on the other side of Romulan space, the side away from Federation territory? Who else are the Romulans' enemies, or the Klingons'?
Then take money and run, we all know it's going to happen sooner or later
The number of ships from tv have a limit on them so as others have suggested it's time they do their own designs are try to get creative.
I'd think that would be any designer's biggest dream to have very few if any constraints.
Personally I am a fan of animations and short cooldowns over say higher dps or functionality.
For example my favorite item is the flashlight.
It has no cooldown, it's free and I like the animation.
Story or canon means less than zero to me I don't care what name is on the package.

I'm sorry to people who I, in the past, insulted, annoyed, etc.
Lockbox carrier has available lockbox frigates and lockbox fighters which deploy lockbox mines with dispersal patterns. Frigates are purchased from the dilithium store and ultra rare versions of the pets are found in the Fleet Spire holding.
Lockbox carrier would also come with the lockbox mine launcher which deploys 4 lockbox mines. Lock box mines when striking an enemy trap the opponent in a lockbox that forces the target to play an isolinear minigame narrated by Captain Kurland to free themselves. A Key can be used to instantly free oneself. After 3 minutes the lockbox mines instead of self destructing revert to normal lockboxes to be picked up by the nearest player.
Lockbox carrier also has advanced battlecloak
Also in the lockbox:
Lockbox duty officer packs: each of these special packs has a chance to give a unique Lockbox Specialist duty officer that grants a 10% chance to dodge lockbox mines.
Consoles: Federation player will get a battlecloak console, while the KDF players are given a promissory note console that promises them better things next season. Romulans get the Exploit console. The exploit console grants an extra 5% critical chance and 10% critical damage as well as removing the cooldown for cloaking.
Mirror universe Ships: There are no lockboxes in the mirror universe either because they are clever or a bunch of TRIBBLE so no Mirror Ships will be arriving.
Traits:
Greedy - Grants an extra 5% bonus to all loot rolls. There is a version for both space and ground.
Needy - Increases the base chance for loot drops by 5%. There is a version for both space and ground.
Spacebar Hero - Faster key presses for weapons fire increases base damage by 2%. Space only.
Language barrier - using words like noob, scrub, and other insults during combat grants a 2% damage resistance bonus and stacks to 5x. This buff lasts for 10 seconds and is refreshed by continued diatribe.
Kit modules:
Tactical - Lockbox grenades. Throws a lockbox grenade at a target. Affects only single targets. Functions like space lockbox mines.
Engineering - Deploy lockbox mine barrier. Functions like the space version mines.
Science - Metrics have determined that not enough players play as science to make it worthwhile to make a kit for the class.
Class Respec tokens:
Players have long wanted to be able to change their class. Now they can! Science players now have the ability to play to either Tactical or Engineer. Tokens are also available in the C-stire for 2000 zen. Tokens are per character.
The Lobi store now features the new Lockbox battlecruiser. The LBC Features the Lockbox console. This console encloses the player's ship in an impenetrable lockbox that renders them immune to all damage, imobilizes them and generates 200% threat to all hostile targets within 10 km. Effect lasts for 1 minute, and the console has a 3 minute cooldown. While inside the lockbox, players can use abilities that are self targeting. Lockbox effect can be removed by hostile players by using a Key when they are within 2 km of the ship inside the lockbox.
LBC comes with cruiser commands 4/4 weapon layout.
Having both Lockbox ship consoles equipped on your lockbox ship grant a 10% defense bonus, 5% damage bonus, and 10% extra EC from vendor sales.
Also in the Lobi store is the lockbox holoemitter that makes you appear like a ...well....lockbox.
Devs please make lock box which unpacks another lock box which unpacks another lock box until the infinite recursion crashes the universe. I call it the babushka lock box!
Thanks.

I gotta say, the only lockbox I'd add next is the one that leads you to a game that doesn't have lockboxes.
I started playing this game against the advice of a housemate that's been playing since it started. He was kinda right. The game is really light on content, and way too heavy on grind. The lockboxes are a symptom of a very serious problem with Star Trek Online.
After less than two weeks, I'm already bored with the game because all that's left to do is grind for stuff and wind up getting a million lockboxes dropping.
By the way, devs, I immediately delete drop boxes.

I would try to argue with you ... but I got nothing. Sadly, lock boxes are not even the worse thing here ... by a mile.

Basically act as the 25th Century version of the modern U.S. Wasp Class amphibious assault ship for the Marines.
They could add some more M.A.C.O. inspired exotic weapons and maybe even some M.A.C.O. Doffs.
