Would like a new Excelsior Skin!

I currently fly the Fleet Excelsior one of my main characters and I love it. However, I'd like to see a new design that would be a skin in the C-Store. I'd love it if it would be similar to the Exeter (fantastic design). What are anyone else's thoughts on this?

I have been told that ship skins didn't sell, so they stopped creating C-Store ship part sales. and made them Fleet skins. :(

Although i'm not a big fan of the Excelsior design, there is one that would make me a Excelsior worshipper. :)

Why not, it looks gorgeous IMO.
It would give a certain elegance to the ancient looking Excelsior, while keeping its general proportions. ("small" saucer, long nacelles and so on. just nicer to look at IMO)
I mean it's not like the deformed JJ Constitution. *yuk*

Do you have any pictures of it?

I get a LOT of excelsior images as result, a bit more information would help a lot.

It was a fan made ship.
Just ignore the "JJ trek" writing, i do the same. :)

In fact there are a lot of gorgeous looking "JJ trek" themed fanmade ships out there and most look far better than actual JJ trek ships. (especially 24/25 century ships). I would love if cryptics designers would create some of them for STO (as alternative ship skins for existing ships).

I think Cryptic should create more different looking ship variants for all ships in general.
I hate the tongue - looking saucers they made all the time. What about wide (Nebula/Galaxy like) and/or triangular (prometheus/Nova like) shaped saucers?

    EDIT:
cmdrscarlet posted another picture of the same ship.
I just love that design!, i would pay 5000 ZEN for it right now, just to be able to use it on my Excel. (which corrodes in drydock for years by now)

I hope cmdrscarlet is ok if i repost it here.

You mean a Sovereign having much more bulky nacelles, angular pylons and a fat engineering hull plus a really fat neck?

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

The fleet Sovereign (Imperial) doesn't have what i would call a "fat" engineering hull nor a "fat" neck. It looks more like a dinosaur carcass. :D

Maybe THIS comes closer to what admiralq1732 meant.
That model is ok too, but nothing that knocks my socks off.

I think I would like a thinner profile for the Excel, I quite like the two hull sections, if the neck would brought forward such that it flows from the join with the saucer all the way down the ship and a set of old style nacelles adapted to fit the slimmer profile, I think I could live with, the JJ style nacelles just don't fit, one of the nice features about the original Excel is her straight lines, you could almost rest a spirit level on the saucer and the nacelles and it would be practically flat. compared to those JJ nacelles that stick out.

This coming from someone who adores the Excel and despises JJ 'trek'.

    Hey, I got a shout out :D

Although a new skin would be neat ... I'm ok without it. The JJ-verse one is actually elegant, which is what the excelsior was when it was introduced.

Have to be honest here, that JJ Concept of the Excelsior is just gorgeous! Such a shame it be very unlikely that we will see it ingame. :(

Since it is "just" a fanmade ship, i don't see a big problem there.
I mean it's just the ships shape that would be introduced in that case, there is no reference to JJ verse needed.
As much as we know it could easily be a modernization or a Excelsior-inspired ship, similar to the Stargazer class (which is inspired by the Constellation) in STO.

I'd really like to know what the devs think about that ship.

Yep, even if they make an update with a similar shape (hopefully similar to the Exeter, since that ship is beautiful), I'd still buy it.

It would be kind of cool if they would take some ship parts from the 2409/10ish looking ships and then apply those to how an excelsior would look like that might interesting.

As well being that pretty much a lot of these federation ships and most of the KDF ones were done prior to these artists being at Cryptic a lot of them like this need another pass.

Another cool idea just to throw it out there is if they did something similar to what the military's plan was with the F-35 with the counter command in this game make some variations of the more popular ships. For example like the ST:Renegades project pretty much has a federation ship that is basically a promethius/vor'cha combination look. Then they could have a counter command skin and then fed, kdf, or romulan specific materials. Would be another way to get new stuff into the KDF and romulans as well as federation along those lines. Overall though I love their redone D7 I would have a heart attack if we got that one in game rofl.

    Break?
    In what way?

Personally i wouldn't care if some other ship has (almost) the same BOFF layout.
I like to fly ships because of their looks/history/meaning in trek. If it's got a good BOFF layout then, so much the better!
But i wouldn't fly a ship soley because of it's BOFF layout. I'm sure my point of view may be a bit antique nowadays (everyone just want's to fly a Dreadnought/Escort/Carrier). Maybe it's somekind of RP in my mind.

Actually I agree with that idea. For my part, I do not fly the Excelsior exclusively for the BOff seats. Frankly, I almost hate it. But I adapt because I really really like the aesthetic of the ship so much :)

So maybe I'm being selfish to not want a Uni BOff, but I like that I'm part of a handful of players (from my point of view) who will fly the ship as is.

Prior to the unlinking of the team abilities, I would have supported a uni ensign boff on the fleet variant, other ships saw a similar update and it would have been a small but meaningfull adaptation, personally I wouldnt have minded a tac or sci ens there since all I could do with that station was throw eng. team in the spot and use it when the oppourtunity presented itself(few and far between)

now without the imposed link cooldowns? I can't see any reason for it, the visuals of the ship are second to none and the boff seating is as good as it's going to get without having to compromise what the ship really is

My only gripe with the Fleet Excelsior is that Ens Engineer BoFF. Make it a Universal slot and the ship would become a lot more relevant. As it is the Fleet Sov (Regent) has a superior layout, but there are way too many Sovs in this game and Sov doesn't have the quickness Excelsior does. Plus there's just something about rolling in and kicking tail NCC-2000 style. I've gotten more "WTF??!!" PMs in this ship than any other.

Do you hate it simply because there are no uni slots? Even with locked seating, for a tactical cruiser the Excelsior's setup is fantastic IMHO. The only issue was the previously-useless engineering ensign which has since been fixed.

This is a good question and I've thought about my strong emotion toward the BOff seating: it comes down to three Eng seats because there are only five abilities at Ensign level to choose from and at any one time one of those abilities simply will not be used. Even if I double-up with one ability (2 ET for example), I will not be able to use one of them. To me, that is a waste.

So it is certainly not about lacking a universal slot. For this ship I would not want that anyway. It's seating may actually be perfect for the ship, but it's not perfect to me.

Having said that, if the ship I fly was based on BOff seating then I would not be flying the Excelsior. But I fly it for it's looks and no other ship in the fleet looks as good to me - I'll never get bored looking at the Excelsior. So I adapt my game to it and I'm okay with that :)

Soooo back on topic, A new skin to the Excelsior is not really needed. Yet, I do think the blue of the nacelles could be adapted to the engines, like every other ship in the fleet.

I love how the Excelsior looks and its such a classic. Though I would love to be able to use the Mirror Universe paint job on it though. I dont mind having that 3rd Eng Slot on the ship as its perfect for Engineering Team as none of the Teams share Cooldowns. Sure the Ens Eng being changed to a Universal would be awesome though as would allow for more variery and still use that wonderful classic design.
