This thread is dedicated to negative feedback on Cryptic's communication as of late.
Since the last thread got closed for being too edgy, we'll try to keep this one more civilized since negative feedback is still allowed just as long as it is done respectfully.
I would like to remind Cryptic and its personnel that they do still have forums, and a website. All of which I am sure that they are paying money for, yet they haven't seemed to like to use as of late.
Cryptic has favored 3rd party websites, i.e. social media and podcasts more than their own website lately and quite frankly it is annoying. When I want to read up on what is happening with STO, I want to read about it on this website from the people who know what they're talking about as opposed to having to hunt through MULTIPLE other websites and having to even listen to other people's promotions and whatnot.
Using 3rd party websites to distribute information and promote marketing efforts is a fine tactic, HOWEVER, it should never be the sole means of information distribution. If there is only one place where information gets released it should always originate on their official website/forums.
I'm well aware of where they post patch notes. However until it was posted solely on TWITTER I was not aware of s9.5's official release date. Had it not been for someone WHO DOES NOT work for Cryptic's posting it, I still wouldn't have known.
Seriously, they talked how there is a lack of information getting to the players (well those who don't visit the forum). Given the Risa event, people obviously have no clue about the Calender and looking up events to come.
Maybe there should be a bulletin board that's very noticeable at Hubs. And since they are getting rid of the Dilithum Store, maybe replacing the Button with an Event Button would be a good thing.
What really grinds me gears is all the audio interview TRIBBLE they like to do, and won't provide a transcript. Like I really want to sit there and listen to a bunch of guys blather on for an hour to gleam some little nugget of info.
You have your website as your core. You can use social media to disseminate information released on the website to broaden the reach of that information reaching potential interested parties; but if you do not post that information on your own website or in your own forums - well, all sorts of expletives come to mind.
Wife: Where are we going to eat on our anniversary? You haven't told me.
Husband: Maybe you should call around all the local restaurants to find out.
Neighbor: Ted, sorry to hear that you're getting a divorce.
Ted: What?
Neighbor: I read a tweet from Danny down the block about it.
Ted: Don't you have to read me rights?
Police Officer: They're available for reading on a number of websites.

LMAO. Yep yep yep. See that? That made my night.
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.
I rather have to agree with the OP. I come to this site to find out what is going on in the game. Its fine you give out information on other sites, but don't you think it should be like ripples from a stone? The stone should be here, on this site, and all the ripples elsewhere should tell you to come here for the full story.

Honestly, that's not a problem with the website giving information, that a problem with people not knowing the game. Solve it with a new player pop up saying here is the calendar, they already have it for pretty much every other thing in the game.

Cryptic isn't actually responsible for the interviews though, they are done by third party people/web sites so it would be up to them to write a transcript and not Cryptic.
I do agree that I wish they had announced the actual release date of 9.5 in a dev blog, but typically when they announce something on a third party site (say, Priority One Podcasts), they provide a link on their site, perhaps they could do that with Twitter and Facebook?
This is all giving me a chuckle (at Cryptic's expense). Why wait until Thursday for certain rage and doom? It happens all too frequently (and deservedly so) on these forums.

I'm not forecasting doom, I'm merely expressing my dissatisfaction and negative feedback about how certain issues are being handled recently.

I agree with you, I'm just saying that there will be that sect of posters here who will always call you a doomsayer for merely stating your opinion even when it's based on fact. #rosetintedglasses

Customer relations is a full contact sport.
Sadly, there seems to be a concerted move away from actual contact with the playerbase.

If it was so simple, then we wouldn't have lost the Exploration clusters, "because people got lost in them".

your not the only one. makes you wonder who actually runs the press release section of the team. why this whole thing hasnt been tweaked to bring all the information and detail in one location. instead you got geko who refuses to do anything other then podcasts, and the rest of us forumers here are the last to find out about anything for months.
What really grinds me gears is all the audio interview TRIBBLE they like to do, and won't provide a transcript. Like I really want to sit there and listen to a bunch of guys blather on for an hour to gleam some little nugget of info.
Transcripts are like so Gen X? You should like down my app? It like uses speech to like text to send you tweets from the YouTube video in like unsearchable meme gifs?
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
I'm going to reach for the low-hanging fruit, here.
Imagine Joss Whedon is having an interview about reviving Firefly. Only the TV is muted, there is no way to unmute it -- and you don't know how to read lips.
Now imagine you've been a Firefly fanboy/fangirl and have been waiting for this interview for years.
Not a fan of Firefly? No problem.
Imagine your favorite television network is picking up a new Star Trek series, but the entire interview is in sign language (and you don't know sign language). The entire interview is conducted in sign language. No vocals. No captions. No subtitles.
How irritated would you be that you have to ask around for people who watched the interview and knows sign language as to give you that information?
Because that's what it's like for people like me and others who find out a dev interview is audio-only.
It's irritating. It's degrading. And it certainly is not helpful. It's the opposite of helpful.
And PWE/Cryptic knows this. And they haven't done anything about it.
I bet if there were a few thousand hearing impaired Star Trek fans in Las Vegas talking to each other through sign language, with Al Rivera sitting in the middle of them... he'd kind of want to know what they were talking about.
I'd love to be there in Las Vegas just to walk up to the developers and just start talking to them with my hands. And then if they want a translator, to just tell them that I'll accept donations and their own volunteer time to translate what I'm saying to them.
That's what it's like in those shoes.
Of course, if they continue to simply not care and/or do anything about their policies, I know one hand gesture that they will more than likely understand (even if they don't know sign language!).

patch notes is different from official news.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
So patch notes are therefore NOT official news, therefore not official, nor news. Duly noted.
