STO developer Al "Captain Geko" Rivera is joining stoked for an interview on Saturday 19th of July at 11 AM PST / 7PM GMT if you have any questions for Geko please send them to Stoked radio and please attach your @hanndel so we can give proper credit,

The closing date is Friday 18th so we can sort the questions and any similar questions will be grouped together and if possible credit will be given.

If you have a burning question to ask Captain Geko email the question to the above address or down below; the only topic we’ve been told we can’t ask about is what is going to happen at the Vegas convention this year!

    ask him why his podcasts dont include written transcripts and if it can be written, why hasnt there been anything about it over the years?

    that is the only question i have to him. i also dont care about taking credit for asking it either, if he wants to know who asked and it gets mentioned, he can come to the forum himself and interact with us back here to find out who.

    Chaos, why would Al be responsible for making a transcript of a podcast he's on? That's up to each individual podcast.

    Captain Geko: The Foundry is back in the public eye due to the changes in the star clusters. You have mentioned several times over the past year or more that your team was working on "about a dozen" new features for the tool to come out around Season 9, but later said those were delayed due to time spent fighting Foundry exploits.

    Are you still working on adding these features, or has that project been cancelled?

    With the removal of star cluster exploration in season 9.5 will a Cryptic made non-Foundry replacement for exploration content be coming? I'm not asking for an ETA or details. Just a yes or no, will we be able to continue to seek out new life and new civilizations, will we be able to once again go where no one has gone before in Star Trek Online?

    why wasn't the galaxy R's station setup adjusted whatsoever during the galaxy reboot? why didn't it also get a universal ENS like the dreadnaught?

    and were's the fleet gurumba?

    and constellation?

    1) Is bringing visuals of reputation ship gear (deflector, engines, shields) to the ship tailor somewhere on the "To Do" list?
    Would love to use certain shield and hull effects on my ships without being forced to equip them, and since the same thing is possible with personal armor, i wonder why this isn't already implemented for ships.

    2) Would selecting the colour of your weapons independently from the type of weapon you use, be possible as an option at the ship tailor?

    3) New Skill tree/system coming anytime soon?

    4) Why aren' the personal traits divided into ground and space? Like 8 slots for ground traits and 8 for space. It is simply a major inconveneance to readjust them each time i go from space to ground combat...which is basicaly every story mission in the game. If they were simply preset my "working conditions" would be much better!

    5) Performance issues in certain areas, especially undine battlezone. What is the cause, is it under investigation, or even an improvement planed?
    What i think is the cause and possible solution: a) Too many "small" enemy NPC ships...the frigate grp (3 ships) should be cut down to 1 ship with the HP and SP of the 3 combined.
    b) Too many weapons on player ships fireing all at once. Especially the torp spread animation seems to be eating away all FPS.
    c) Undine battlezone is a walk in the park anyway...cut max players down to 10, or even 5 per zone.

    6) Bridge officer traits finaly being customisable (The new UI seems to suggest that)? An end to the supremicy of superior romulan operative doffs in sight?

    7) Fleet Guramba a myth or reality?

    Here's my question. It's a tough question and I'd appreciate if it wasn't just immediately dismissed as trolling.
    Al, have you ever completed the Floater race enough times to get the ship? I know some of the worker bee Devs play the game, but I'm wondering if you had to do the floater run 25 times if you'd find it enjoyable?

    At the end of the day, a video game needs to be fun. Nothing on Risa was fun enough to me to justify doing it enough times to get the rewards I wanted. So I didn't have fun and didn't get my reward this summer. What's wrong here?

    So what is the info on Legacy Of Qo'nos for expansion2?

    As well why did the undine attack qo'nos and use esd as a diversion when the the KDF is behind on the feds power creep?

    Also all jokes aside whens that negh'var c-store version coming out and if there are any plans on those c-store versions for the bops and other battle cruisers we haven't been made available?

    Dear Captain Geko

    What can we hope to see for future crafting patches after the initial revamp? Will this feature continue to get improvements or will it be a one patch then forgotten kind of deal?

    Are you able to give a us any tidbits about the shift we will be able to craft?

    Would it be at all possible to have all stf dilithium rewards normalized? ETA of completion yields the better dilithium?

    Accuracy once again does not overflow. Will we ever see this mechanic be brought back online?

    Any tidbits about season 10?

    The devs seem to be posting with much much less frequency then, say, a year ago. The community understands your busy, but we miss seeing you guys around.


    This is the question I am most interested in...
    Could ship set piece skins...like the Jem hadar or reman set skins, be added to the ship tailor as unlockable hull material?
    I know the management team wants more dilithium sinks in the game, more people will buy complete sets if they can choose to wear them at their discretion. With many people making the effort to complete their "wardrobe"

    1) With exploration clusters gone, will we ever see REAL exploration in STO?

    2) What's going to happen to the old diplomacy missions at Memory Alpha? Gone? Or moved?

    3) What's going to happen to the First Contact missions?

    4) It possible to keep Memory Alpha, but turn it into a library like it was in canon? And fill it up with game lore that you couldn't put in storyline missions? Like the missing parts to the Path of 2409.

    5) When can we expect the missing Alpha Quadrant Sector's added? And will Vega be moved to it's proper position when that happens?

    6) Is it possible that ship crafting could be part of the new crafting system and this would be the method of how we get the remaining canonical kitbashes into the game? Like the missing Wolf 359 ships, the Yeager, or for the KDF the K'vort?

    7) Will we ever see Enterprise-Era ships for the KDF like the D5 Battlecruiser and the 22nd Century BoP with it's 360 degree rotating dual cannon belly turret?

    8) Will Romulans ever see a Refit Klingon D7 added to their roster? Or is the Tier 3 K'T'inga as close as they will come to that?

    9) Given the time it takes to level up the new Crafting System, why not make for the player's account than per character? Will we ever see a bonus similar to the Reputation system to aid those with multiple characters?




    10) Will the UI ever be fixed so it stops wiping out the space toolbars? And glitches the chat box
    everytime you zone?

    Asmick, ask gecko why he thinks "his" preferences (likes and dislikes) for star trek are more important than most of the "paying customers" preferences when it comes to making this game

    Please ask if old rare particle traces will be fixed to only convert into rare or above new materials?

    Getting uncommon and common for what were the rarest of the old materials, seems somewhat unfair..

    Geko, why is it that the G-R can't have the D'D layout, it is the closest thing to the on screen Galaxies? The "Galaxy" Reboot was a Galaxy X reboot, which it was appreciated but, the G-R needs some love, as do many of the older ships, throw us a bone and bring them upto the new standard of hybrid play, kthxbye.

    Stop letting your personal preferances cloud game design, we all know you don't like the Galaxy thats fine for you but those of us who DO like the Ent-D, the fans of G-R/Defiant/Intrepid would love an update. I personally don't dig a lot of ships, but I wouldn't give them TRIBBLE set ups because of it, that would be unprofessional.

    Most MMOs in the traditional model, like STO started as, have several different basic types of game play. There is end game content, like STOs STFs, or WoWs raids, reletively big things that take some form of team work. There is crafting, enough said. There is the stroyline quest, usually used as a leveling process or tutorial, though it can continue past that point.

    And then there is the average stuff to do. The missions, quests, whatever, that don't require you to have top end gear, or get a group together, or anything fancy, but are there for you when you don't want to do any of the above, but still give something useful and are so generic that they can be repeated. Also, for the game designer, they are something for the player to be distracted by so that they do not burn out on end game content and storylines that will never expand fast enough to satisfy them.

    In STO, the closet thing we had to the last category was exploration cluster missions. With these going away, will STO ever have some type of mission like this, worth doing, but generic and repeatable so that end game content and stroy line mission will not have to take the full force of answering the player's eternal question of what do we do now?

    I do not know about anyone else, but I do have a serious hearing problem. As a result of a childhood surgery, scar tissue has wrapped around my right eardrum. I struggle to hear past mumbling sounds, for my ear does not vibrate appropriately. My left ear has a similar issue, but the problem occurs less frequently.

    Do you guys provide transcripts for people with handicaps?

    Questions from @shpoks:

    1. Are there any plans to do something substantial in terms of exploration, the core element of Star Trek, in the forseable future, or has that been completely relegated to the Foundry? And if there are plans on exploration, can we expect it to be something in which we as players actively participate in, or is it going to be just another mini-game like the Doff system?

    2. Why does it seem that most of the content released lately is tied into a time-gated, limited time, repeatable grind? While everyone can agree that the grind portion is a necessity in the MMO genre, why does Cryptic choose this approach instead of adding more variety in ways to complete the grind portion of the game as well as making it availible to complete at the players' convenience rather than sticking it into limited time events?
    Does the Cryptic team really think this is the right way to go about in order to appease the playerbase?

    3. What's happening with the Fleet Guramba Siege Destroyer? Why isn't it in the game already? It's one of the most sought after KDF ships and yet one of the few without a fleet variant. When can we expect the Fleet Guramba to happen?

    4. It has been more than a year since the B'rotlh BoP was released with LoR, and at least 10 months since it was first reported that the Fleet B'rel BoP can't use the B'rotlh skin due to a certain bug. Can we expect this to be fixed anytime soon, or at all for that matter?

    5. Since the factions are at a cease fire as of S9, can we expect at least some small humble amount of faction exclusive missions or will everything from now on be faction neutral with just minor dialogue tweaks? It would be pitty to not recieve specific content on the level of the epic KDF missions in LoR or the high-quality Romulan storyline in LoR ever again.

    6. Do you consider increasing the quantity and quality of drops from the PvE content, as well as adding some new rare drops that would compete with at least some of the rep, fleet or lockbox gear? Since all of the latter are bound in one way or another, the lack of quality and quantity in drops is having a negative effect on the player economy and the trading aspect of STO.

    7. Will there be new unique features added to the Freighters to compensate their loss after the removal of the Exploration Clusters, which was one of their biggest selling points?

    EDIT: Bonus question: Why was the Galaxy revamp and the Galaxy bundle released without fixing the glaring issues and missalignments on the ship models(skins)?

    Romulan embassy boffs, will they ever A) get their faces bac if they've been traded and B) be customizable? *Points to Liberated Borg Romulan Science officer. They can wear Romulan uniforms, why can't Romulan Embassy Boffs?

    Romulan bridges, will there ever be more of them than just the one? Not necessarily the layout, just but the bridge itself.

    Actual real Cardassian Boffs, why aren't they a thing? We can get Cardassians as duty officers, why not boffs?

    Ezri Dax, what's she up to in 2410? Any chance we'll find out anytime soon?

    I sent it, but I'll also post it here too:

    With the exploration clusters disappearing could we have some kind of exploration happen in the normal Sector Blocks, as there isn't much currently going on there? For example, could we have random anomalies appear for me to scan if I was traveling from, let's say Earth to K-7, through sector space?

    In addition to these, could we have random star system survey missions; these would only require you to be sitting outside of the star system "door" in sector space, but would offer you various duty officer and new mini-game related opportunities, sort of like Mass Effect's planet scanning system.

    This is a great question and very valid. However you can pretty much count on him ignoring this question as trolling or flat out refusing to respond to it He labels anything that he doesn't want to hear as trolling.
    I will give insane massive props to Tom and company if they hit Geko with this zinger.
