The old set is upgraded to the new stats.
Visuals question - will it still have the 'tronlines' look to the shield, and might it be possible to customize this like the glow of the Risian engines? Even just the eight color options there would be nice; I've always wished to see it in a bright cobalt blue.

So all the materials, Dil and EC I put into reaching 1650 in crafting will get me a useless title and that's it? No head start in the new system? No Dil refund? No nothing?! That's a horrible deal.

Just like all the badges that got convered to Dil in Season 3(?) there really needs to be something. A box of Dil equivalent to the cost of getting to 1650 would be ideal if we all have to start at 0 again. But I'm open to other recompense. There are plenty of things that could be done; a starter box of the rare/very rare materials, a box of lobi, or even a 10 pack of Master Keys would be better than nothing but a stupid useless title!

    Yeah, a title. Woot.

I suppose we should also acknowledge the doff and the upgraded space set if you've crafted an Aegis set.

While I also acknowledge that maxing out the old crafting wasn't the hardest thing in game to do, this is pretty miserly recompense regardless.

As Drac suggests, a starter pack of rare/very rare materials seems the minimum they could do, although lobi or master keys is probably over-optimistic.

A fair system would convert currently accrued crafting experience into the new system.

Perhaps max level would equate to a free level in each of the new crafting schools, with a dimishing amount of free levels for lesser amounts of experience.

    But a title?

Sorry, but thats probably the most useless thing Cryptic could have thought of.......and quite frankly, given the options they have available, a bit insulting.

A flipping crafting tribble would have been better.

Imagine that, a tribble would be a better option.

Indeed. If they went that route it would also remove one hell of a resource that fleets could provide their members. Crafting should rightly be developed as a way of producing equipment, not simply acquiring it.

Crafting is for producing equipment as it's been stated the equipment is bind on EQUIP not acquire.

Actually, I was thinking that might be brilliant. We already have Tribbles that award Marks for using them. Perhaps a Tribble that awards random Crafting Materials when used.

It'd work for me. As long as it crapped out a rare/very rare material.

Or, instead of crapping out materiale, it gave you a 2% catalyst boost.

I would actually be happier with a hypospray than a title. At least it actually does something.

However, if equipping the title gave some sort of crafting buff, i'd be all-in. Make it so, Devs.

I feel your pain, but I look forward to the changes. "Change" is rarely fair at the time it is needed most, like it is needed in crafting. It (crafting) will hopefully be better for the masses in the long run, with the release of newer content down the line.

+1. You win the thread. :D

This is where product management side of the business should be considering the outcomes of established players (aka customers). Change functionality, impact features, upset user (players/customers)... and the game (product) has increased risks to losing customers ($$), losing players to other MMOs/games/activities, etc.

That aside, Drac's suggestion (as echoed by rinkster above) is an excellent one.

While I'm personally thankful for the Aegis set upgrade and crafting DOff addition, there needs to be an additional, specific reward to accomplished STO crafters.

Maybe Cryptic is counting on established crafters as likely buyers of the new C-Store crafting-related stuff (DOff packs, materials, etc.). Cryptic "runs the numbers" and is likely making business decisions from what the actual players are doing.

But, for Goodness sakes, there needs to be something more to say "thanks" for having been a player who devoted time to the crafting system. I know I'd appreciate it!

Yeah, I'd even settle for a Tribble.

So, I think it's a bit of an understatement to say that leveling up the old crafting system is easy. I did it a long time ago on a character I never use anymore, so the other night I decided to max crafting on my current "main" character just to get that character a free Aegis doff.

I converted a pile of anomalies into a pile of hypos and Mk VII plasma DHCs, and 1650 research XP. This took less than ten minutes and cost nothing.

Do you truly believe you deserve a better reward for this than a free doff? Seriously?

I asked this before, but why would expertise in an old obsolete system have any sort of worth in a brand new system?

Disclaimer: I don't speak for everyone here.
Since you both asked, and this is a discussion forum...

With the release of Season 9.5, what if Cryptic decided to remove accolades and mission completion accomplishments? How would you feel if you had to start from scratch again?

In other words, your past work is invalidated.

I realize restarting crafting leveling isn't the same thing as what I'm suggesting above. It's merely food for thought: How would you feel about losing what you've spent time earning?

This happened before with the skills revamp. And you can argue, "The players didn't see additional rewards handed out; players complained, but ultimately, players continued playing/progressing with STFs and earning marks, abilities; and ultimately it didn't matter."

What we're seeking, imho: better customer service.

    And why not ask?

Hey, I'll settle for a crafting DOff; I've openly thanked the Devs here for that (and the Aegis set upgrade for existing Aegis owners). But I'll still ask for something additional. It's not an entitlement. Given we're back at Square One in the crafting process, it would be a nice overture.

OK, table whether or not it took ten minutes and a big pile of resources to max the old crafting out.

My recollection is that it took a little bit longer, but maybe I'm just a slow clicker.

Those clicks may have taken ten minutes, but ammassing the resources you used didn't.

And while I'm not claiming Reputation-Track-Tier-Five amounts of time and effort, it also wasn't entirely trivial.

Which is why I'm not asking for much more than a tribble.

But something that does something small but measurable. A title is just a joke.

it would help with the overabundance of vapers in PvP and the borg one-shot invisitorps in STFs...powerful maybe, but also something that would make the set competitive with all the others

even with the upgraded stats, it still seems to lag behind a bit compared to several other sets in terms of effectiveness...of course, i haven't seen it in action on any builds yet, so maybe i'm missing something that can't be seen just by eyeballing numbers

I know this could be a dumb question, and I can check tribble myself, but I am in Vacation.

Yes, that was the implication of the AEGIS DOFF, that it would be needed to craft the AEGIS.

It's always been a good set for defense. It doesn't really help you kill stuff, it helps you stay alive long enough to return fire. Heck, my Eng Melati using Aegis on her Oddy was able to shrug off the shock waves from the CE. Despite having stats that look weak on paper, it works great, even though it's only a MK10 level set as-is.

It sounds like you'll need the DOFF to be able to craft the AEGIS in the new system, so it's most likely awarded once you reach a certain level in Crafting (AEGIS cannot be crafted until Level 15 in those 3 Schools).

Additionally, it sounds like the DOFF will be automatically awarded only if you've crafted or are able to craft the AEGIS in the current system, so just buying AEGIS off the Exchange wouldn't award the DOFF unless your current Crafting is high enough.

Does the Aegis doff that we get allow free crafting of Aegis sets, or were you simply saying the doff is free? ;)

Being able to craft AEGIS sets for free (no crafting mateials) would be insane. The DOFF would logically allow players to craft AEGIS sets w/o having to each level 15 in each of the crafting areas.
