Anybody doing this? How/what are you using for GPU, drivers, and monitor screens? Using 60Hz on DP 1.2, right?

Thas funny, STO runs really bad on low-end systems and you want to tryi it on 4k loooooolz... nice slideshow..

But i tell you, STO will not look cool on 4k systems. In 1080p the UI is already too small and sometimes you cant even see the little numbers of the skills cooldowns, and things like that. Imagine STO running on a 4k resolution. That if you can get the game to run smoothly even with all the graphic settings off lol.

Increasing the resolution on STO doesn't hit performance the way you might think. As early as Season 5 I saw an actual increase in performance going from 1600x900 to 1080. If you have a graphics system that can run games at 4k, STO will probably run as well as it runs for most people at 1080 with mediocre hardware, that is to say overall decent, with horrible FPS in a lot of the new stuff and disappearing effects.

You are totally correct on the UI being way to small at that resolution though, it would be completely illegible.

Would be fun to see, but ultimately pointless most likely.

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

STO is almost 5 years old. A computer with 3 years in the back should run it at maximum settings with no problems at all. And still ITS NOT THE CASE. So i dont think the game engine will handle the 4k resolutions very well. It is a really huge step from 1080p to 4k. Really huge. Its true that nowadays, the resolution is not a big performance killer, but as a said, there is tooo much difference between a classic today 1080p and 4k. But the problem is most in the UI part. Some elements, it doesnt matter how much you resize the ui, are always the same size, like the cooldown of the skills and things like that. Actually you cant even see those little numbers, imagine with a resolution of 4k. And the bigger is the resolution, the more problems the UI will encounter related to the performance. Remember the UI in STO is one of the causes of the big performance issues of the game since it was released.

4K would really need an engine overhaul. Given the game is struggling very, very badly at 1080p and under, I'd not count your chickens for higher res support at the moment.
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.

34I'm on a 30" 1440p screen, I don't have any problems with my graphics at all. I maintain 60fps solid with infrequent 5-8% variance using FCAT measurement. This is on a single Titan (original) water-cooled on a Intel 4770K CPU with 32GB RAM.

I do agree that 4K will make things rather small, but my vision is 20/20.

The engine's issues are independent of resolution, they happen the same way at 600x400 as they happen at 4k.

The UI issue mentioned above is also a non-issue, since you can scale the UI from 50% to 200% of default. At 2.00, it's too big on 4k, about 1.4-1.5 seems good to me, but then I scale it down at more typical monitor resolutions. If you prefer 1.00 at lower resolutions, you'll probably want more like 1.6-1.8 at 4k.

4K gaming is not going to be very smooth unless you're running multiple high end GPUs in SLI or Crossfire and even then, you'd be lucky to get anywhere close to 60 FPS consistently.

Remember, at 4K your system will need to push four times the number of pixels as one running at 1080p.

Just tried it out using a 770GTX(2gb) with AA turned off, since I was downsampling to 1080p. Space was a solid 60fps through the first battle of Dust to Dust. The ground part was between 20 and 40 FPS, depending on area and effects. So not great, but certainly playable. It certainly works for screenies.

Bit late on this but hey.

    I run 2x HD7950 with 3x Dell 24" 1920x1200 screens in Eyefinity - total resolution 5760 x 1200.

It is silky smooth with over 90 Fps maxed out.

And having the extra width is preferable for me over 4k, I get a near 180 view, so much better than the 3840 width of a 4k monitor in my opinion.

Now 4K is around 82.9 Megapixels and my Eyefinity setup is around 69 Megapixels, so I think the two HD 7950 would handle the extra anyway.

I have a HD 7870 ghz @ 2048x1152 and I too have issues reading the UI sometimes, but other then that STO runs great, if not for some weird pixelling issues since Delta hit, but FPS wise, i get a solid 60 FPS. So with a High End System, i imagine 4k could run fairly well.

One Caveat, I dont think the textures are good enough for 4k however, i imagine they probably aren't anywhere near being 2k let along 4k.

I found this post and even though it's over 1 year old, it help me out alot. I just setup (2) 4K 50" UHD Monitors and they work awesome on every game and I haven't had any video or gaming issues. The only issue I've had was adjusting the UI. Since I just came back after a while of being off, I couldn't remember where to find the Interface Scale. I found your post and it's saved me so much time and solved my issue. 1.4-1.6 seems to be great, just need to finish tweaking it a bit. Just wanted to say thanks.
