Updated Gorn Feet textures

So like last year, I noticed a great improvement on the feet textures for Risa outfits on Gorn Characters. But like last year, its still not the norm. I just have to ask: Why go to all the trouble of making a better (And fixed) texture, if it only shows up on certain outfits? Its wierd, because Gorn have the ability to not wear boots, but unless you wear a Risa outfit, the Feet textures look horribly outdated. Don't believe me? Wear any normal outfit without boots, then wear a Risa one. I guarentee you will notice the difference.

I just found out, the new textures that come with the Explorer and beachcomber outfits, are in fact different textures from the swimsuit ones. Which begs the question, why did Cryptic make two separate updated textures, only to use them on certain outfits?

Good catch. I think I've noticed similar issues with other species as well. It's really strange that they didn't just update the textures all around the board, the differences are pretty obvious and noticeable.

well, they're still in the process of updating character textures and whatnot

callevista did say a lot of the updates might not make it in in time for risa in another thread somewhere
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

No worries Shpoks. And I agree. It is pretty noticable. What similar things have you seen on other species?

So these updates might get applied to all models eventually? I hope so. The old textures look really bad.

That's really...weird how that's designed. And frankly makes no sense.

Caitians/Ferasans got updated last Summer Event. Humanoids got a pass on their feet this year (and it's always 'on' no matter if you're in a bikini or not). Why in the world are the Gorn not the same way?

You'd think the underlying texture would be the same, and would only have one texture 'pattern' to call upon - why change it depending on what kind of clothing you're wearing?

Thats what I find so confusing! Obvious effort went into both of these textures. I doubt they made them just for certain outfits, that would make no sense. It would be like Andorian Antenna looking better on one outfit, but outdated on all regular outfits.

Well, for example when my Human wears the Risian beachcomber outfit, the feet below the ankle are the improved ones with the new textures, but the skin texture over the ankle to the knee-high pants is the old one and it's pretty noticeable since even the skin color varies, making that part look like Frankenstein with sawed feet to the legs. :P
Oddly enough, this is not the case when he has the swim-trunks on - the textures are fine then.

Anyway, shadowfang is right, I've also heard that they're working on finishing all the textures for the species but they hit some kind of delay so it's not 100% certain they'll be finished for this year's Lohlunat Festival.

I see! Good to know they are working on it at least. They do show improvement here!

Yeah, they did a great job on the Klingon textures for ex. I have several Klingon chars and the new chest and stomach areas, the back spine as well as the feet look very good and genuine to what was seen in Star Trek.

Best guess to answer you. Look at a gorn wearing boots. It is a different shape all together. So the possibly made a template for feet and one for boots on the basic outfit. No short outfits exist for gorn in uniforms so that is one model. Then beach comber comes out and they need to have gorn in trunks. Since the previous feet are attached to the old uniform them made new ones to go with the new skin they had to do, and tied that to the new outfit. (Probably very low priority to put them in on the uniforms if they are even compatible.) Now a year later they still don't have a single underlying skin for the gorn, so they make a third set of skin and feet because it is how they have been doing the 'pants' for them to date. But the artists are getting better all the time.

That is what seems logical to me.

Nor should they be. Their ships would look weird.
